My conference is also yards away so I didn't even need my rental car except to get to/from the airport. As a matter of fact, I can't think of a base that had a more conveniently located Lodging facility in terms of on base facilities. Perhaps the Miramar Inn at MCAS Miramar can beat it in terms of convenience but that's the only one I can think of and it may be a tie... plus Miramar is in San Diego so I may be biased because San Diego is pure paradise. But if a member in one of the Sea Services was forced to spend a week at a base far, far away from the ocean, I think one can't go wrong staying here. It also checks my three "must have" boxes: free WIFI (although I'm only seeing 2MB down and up), a mini-fridge and a microwave. I'm here for work so I don't need anything other than a place to perform 4S Operations* and to nuke my cans of Chef Boyardee. *Yes, I realize that there are five, even six S's to be performed in one's room but I don't intend to shine anything on this trip and I don't have much to shampoo these days. So for me, I'll take my four S's and call it good. And yes, for those with their minds in the gutter, I recognized there indeed can be 7, 8 and 9 S Operations that can be performed in ones room but at that point I don't believe convenient location or the fact that a microwave is provided is a high priority to you.... certainly CAC readers are not. Thank you for your time.... That is all.

This was my first time to Red Oak and I am really happy I chose this hotel. I broke this review…read moreinto a few different categories. Staff: The staff is very friendly and helpful. They helped me find several fun things to do in Red Oak and the cities surrounding it. I definitely loved their helpfulness. Lobby/entrance: The lobby is a decent size lobby with plenty of places to sit at. I always love when a hotel has a porta cochère and this hotel has one! Breakfast area: So a continental breakfast is included with your stay. It's a very minimal breakfast. If it doesn't fill you up you can go to the restaurant they have on site or to the McDonald's right down the street. Rooms: The rooms are very large and spacious for a standard type room! I really enjoyed the extra space. Parking: It's free and they have a very large parking lot! Downfalls: 1. There was never anyone standing at the front desk. Whenever I needed someone I had to push a doorbell to get someone to come out from the back. I felt like I was disturbing them whenever I pushed that button. 2. Yes the rooms were huge but the bathrooms were very small. If I had a bathroom that was 1 foot bigger then it would be perfect. 3. Booking this hotel can only be done by calling. Yes I understand this is a small town and not a lot of tourist come to red oak. However it would have been nice if you allowed online bookings on either your website or through Expedia. When I was looking for a hotel to stay at your hotel didn't immediately pop up. I booked your hotel after I talked to my friends and we all agreed to stay there. Overall it's a good hotel and if I'm in red oak I will stay here again.

A FINE PLACE IN A SMALL IOWA TOWN…read more This is not a deluxe hotel, but for the small town of Red Oak, it more than meets the need. If you are in the area for business or visiting, this is a clean hotel, nice lobby, rooms are large with moderate decor. It features a restaurant and lounge, and the service is very warm and friendly.

The owners have thought of everything. For instance, we used the 40-cup coffee percolator every day! The kitchen had every single thing we needed (including such things as a meat thermometer). There are common areas on each level in both cabins where we could spread out and not be on top of each other, but could gather for meals and activities in the bigger cabin. The cabins are so beautiful, especially decorated for Christmas. When you walk in, there is soft lighting and music playing and you instantly relax, and take in the gorgeous open views out the windows. All in our family raved about how wonderful and perfect it was for us. My sister-in-law commented on how all the details created a fantastic "ambiance." My 21 year old nephew said he loved all the Christmas trees. Everyone enjoyed this venue and we got lots of love and credit for finding it. Would love to be there in the summer, too, to experience kayaking and other outdoor activities. We did walk around the lake, had the annual cousin football game, got into the small town of Wahoo to the meat locker and some of the small bars. We conducted a wine tasting and a sushi-rolling class, and had lots of other meals, games, laughter, traditions and discussions. That's another thing; tables were provided so that we could seat everyone (20) for meals in a U-shape. Just can't say enough about what a great experience it was.
