This wee book shop is not that obvious if you're speeding by. The older Victorian style interior is crammed to the rafters with books. I love the deep red walls - they add to the magic of this literary treasure trove. I also love the two couches squished in back to back in the second room - they invite a long stay, to indulge in the loving solitude a book can offer.
Owner Helen Baxter is a character - lively, insightful, a natterer. She is direct, the community maitre d. I liked her despite the complaint that she had to work 7 days a week. I understand, in these parts I imagine owning an independent book store is tuff in these e-book and economically unstable times.
The card selection is good. Helen hand picks them and I overheard her talking about creating her own range of Christmas cards using Australian artists. There's some lovely gift books and children's range.
Visit her - the good independents are worth the love and our present buying custom so they can stay open (and, if they make enough profit, to give the likes of Helen a day off).
She does gift vouchers too so you can give the gift of a luscious book scouring experience if you're not sure what to get your bookworm giftee. read more
