Was very roomy inside and quite cozy. The main building on site had live music and a bar. Well priced and better than a hotel. A very unique experience indeed!

Some of the little cabins are original & some are new built to look like the original historic cabins. We LOVE the new built cabins that look Vintage. They are so adorable & so unique. It's obvious a lot of work went into them, the attention to detail is incredibly impressive. I mean they even decorated them in the Vintage fashion to the exact details of the era. Very Impressive. It was definitely a labor of love that went into this place. It's just breathtakingly beautiful in the morning fog & the sunsets are legend from this place. The "Delta" cabin is our fave, we love the back screened in porch. It's a shack, they are all just little shacks, but it's the most adorable shacks EVER. haha. "PLEASE BUILD MORE DELTA CABINS" I can't get reservations for my fave shack!!! LOL There are no tv's or anything it's just a shack, you're basically glamping so bring everything you need, especially bedding if you want to sleep a little more posh. That's what we do. The coolest thing here is the juke joint & blues bar that has live music. You can't even get a room here when the festival is going on. If you want to attend the festival you have to book a year in advance. Highest Recommendations.

If you want old-school authentic Delta blues character, it's pretty hard to top this place. You can…read moreread the stories of this one-time segregated hospital cum musician haven elsewhere - I'll just tell you my story. Prices and booking are done via phone/email with Zee, the owner (daughter of the beloved Frank Ratliff who ran this place for decades). My 2 daughters and I were set up in the Sonny Boy Williamson room on a weeknight for $70 cash. Can't argue with that! I was afraid we'd be arriving too late (around 9) but she said no problem. There is no parking lot - you'll be on the curb. We were also the only car on the block (we did a bit better in time and beat Zee there). It was admittedly a moment that gave slight pause, but then Zee came up and all was well. You're family as soon as you meet her - hugs all the way around. She gave us a 10-minute tour - as we were the only tenants for the night, she opened up all the rooms and let us soak in the aura of Bessie Smith's final moments and rock & roll's birth pangs via Ike Turner. My kids settled in, and I continued to talk to her about music, Clarksdale, and the relationships she's made with guests from around the world - good times. She's also got lots of area info to set you up for your stay, which starts off just a couple of blocks away at the Crossroads. As I settled back in my room, I walked the narrow hallway and just tried to grasp the different lives that have walked this way - it was almost too much to fathom. As mentioned, we were the only ones staying the night, but there is a guy who hangs out in the front office and he's got security monitors so there's no worries about your belongings - no hellhounds on your trail at this place. He also made coffee for me in the morning. Clarksdale is not a town hurting for fantastic places to stay for cheap. Between the Riverside or the Shack Up Inn, you'll have a stay you'll never forget. But if you want to feel the spirits of the past, this is the one you should pick.

The a/c was on 73. Mind you, I never turn mine at home below 70 because I'm anemic, but this a/c definitely wasn't cooling. Plus, at the price I paid, during a Mississippi summer, who wouldn't??! Not what I expected for a room where Morgan Freeman supposedly stayed. 3 stars. The next sweaty morning, I turn on the water in the tub and all kinds of debris came gushing out. 2 stars. Took a wash-off in the sink. I had a good time at the Ground Zero blues club, so I kept it at 2 stars. Oh... and there wasn't a soul on site the morning I left except a homeless guy on the front steps. So, it's best to pay this type of money at a place where you can adjust the a/c and take a bath and have a little hospitality checking in/out.

The loft was huge. Comes with a kitchen, wifi, big sitting area. I can't say we researched the alternatives in Clarksdale too much, but we liked our stay here. There were a few things that could have been better. The coffee maker was missing a piece, but we took that as an excuse to go across the street to the great diner. The loft did get loud, being right on top of a juke joint and all. But you oughta be downstairs shakin' your rump in any case, shugga.
