Our…read more100 year old home--a registered heritage building with the City of Ottawa--needed a new roof, attic structural supports, a steel support beam on the ground floor, and support posts installed in the basement. Rob was attentive to detail, asking questions that led our structural engineer to revise his plan to ensure adequate support over the master bedroom. Rob worked out an ideal approach to the project, working in tandem with a roofer to complete the roof upgrades quickly and with minimal risk to the internal structure of our house. He was courteous and kept us informed of unexpected issues that arose during the project. He also identified other, unrelated deficiencies and took steps to correct them, such as preventing insulation from crowding pot lights in our ceiling. Rob's team managed to save an architectural cornice on the side of the building, and beautifully-preserved the front cornice on our heritage building. It was clear that Rob takes pride in his work and won't settle for less than an excellent job. He kept a clean construction site, particularly when working inside our house. We would highly recommend them to others and are very grateful we picked them for this complex, challenging job.

He always implied before this that he would be doing the work. The man he sent did a really good job but I still felt scammed. I was paying him for nothing! Additionally, he requested a deposit. I told him I was not comfortable paying in advance and would pay when the job was complete. I did offer to pay for the paint or go buy the paint. When the job is partly complete on day one, he came to my home again requesting a deposit, sent me a very snotty email telling me how much deposit he normally expects and that payment in full is due the next day. He made it sound like I wasn't willing to pay. The man gave me a very scamming feeling and would never recommend him to anyone.

She was very helpful, explaining how the company used their own people rather than hire other contractors, as well as the various steps in getting a project underway and completed. When I made the decision to go ahead, Vida understood my needs, respected my budget, and never put any pressure on me on regarding decisions. She made several suggestions that I would not have thought of, and those really made a huge difference in turning a tiny, cramped condo space into something that feels much larger and spacious. My friends all say "Wow!" when they walk in the door. It is truly lovely. The reno started right on time, at which point Sheilagh Crombie, the company's project manager, took over coordination of the work. She called me each evening to ask if things were OK, if I was happy with the results, and to let me know the schedule for the next day. This was definitely NOT a reno nightmare. The installers were all super courteous and respectful of my place, cleaning up and being on time. Any glitches were minor, not my problem, and Sheilagh managed to smooth those over so the kitchen was finished as scheduled. All that was good, but best of all has been their follow-up. With any renovation, there will be things that need tweeking, and this company has delivered 100% satisfaction on those. The workmen told me that if anything is bothering me, do not let it fester, call the company and they will be sent out to deal with it. Very true, and reassuring. I will definitely go back to Distinctive Bathrooms and Kitchens for my next renovation, and have recommended them to my friends. Judy
