Having a couple of new puppies who could potentially be around sick animals is a bit nerve-racking. The office was extremely clean, as was the examination room. We waited less than five minutes and were taken back. Both puppies were weighed and giving their shots without a whimper. Then came the worming medicine, which was no issues there either. The veterinarian came in and examined both puppies separately. He was very thorough. He was just as pleasant as the nurse was, and it was very obvious they loved what they did! Was tested and labs show end stage renal failure. Recommendation was for a medication and appetite stimulant and to see how he did. 1 week later he was outside chasing a squirrel in the back yard. Now 60 days in and he acts like he did 5 years ago, running and eating and happy. I cannot say enough about how they have taken care of my 2 old dogs. Their quality of life has vastly improved and if I loose either one anytime soon I know they were treated as best as possible and given quality time in their remaining days thanks to the staff and veterinarians who have treated them!

Additionally, unnecessary tests were not even discussed; whereas, the last vet we went to would automatically need to do cultures and blood panels at the cost of hundreds of dollars. Instead, based on observation via the exam and the symptoms and behavior we described, we were given a prescription to try. This did the trick and the concerns have not only resolved; but it seems our dog is feeling better and is on the mend. The only cause of concern was aseptic techniques were not observed but when questioned the vet was quick to acknowledge and left the room to wash up and resolve the issue. Both my husband and I have medical backgrounds so we tend to be more concerned about blood borne pathogens than the average person so this may have been something most people would not be concerned with or have noticed. Nevertheless, we still highly recommend this practice as affordable, knowledgeable and more importantly as one that does not view the owners as just a way to charge more for tests than is necessary. Being given options with informed information to make decisions from a financial perspective that is in line with our budget without being made to feel uncomfortable was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. We've been taking our elderly diabetic cat to Upper Cumberland Veterinary Clinic since moving here…read moreto Tennessee. I'm amazed, impressed, and deeply grateful with the care she has received. She recently had a tooth infection and we almost lost her. She was at risk of not making it through the cleaning procedure due to her diabetes, age, and the anesthesia, along with the fact that she wasn't able to eat with her insulin. The doctor gave her some antibiotics and painkillers to help with the infection and make her feel better. This gave her the chance to regain her strength and be able to start eating moist food again. Then I had to make the tough call to proceed with the surgery. She was strong and she was brave. I made the right choice and thanks to the skill of the doctor and his caring staff, my Angel made it through the tooth extraction sugary and cleaning with flying colors. Extremely heartbroken and disappointed in this facility. This has been our pets Dr for a good while…read morenow and she is very pleasant and knowledgeable, IF you can actually get in to see her. She had been caring for my dog as he was becoming old and senior, then suddenly the appointments were becoming further and further out to the point where we were having to seek out different random facilities... repeatedly. When your pet is sick, you can't wait two months! It's ridiculous. They're now using the excuse that they're going to an electronic system, but the inability to get a timely appointment was happening prior to their system changing over. Ultimately, our dog was diagnosed with cancer and heart disease over a period of time by OTHER vets and our Dr at Highland had no idea because we could never get in to see her. Sadly the time came where we had to euthanize our dog and again, they didn't have time to fit us in, we postponed euthanasia on him TWICE waiting for our Dr at Highland to perform the service. The day came where it became an urgent almost emergency situation and again, they couldn't "fit us in" it was beyond heartbreaking for us and very scary to think about this actually happening when your desperate to get your pet into their vet! We feel terrible that we made our dog suffer unnecessarily, hopeful that we would be able to get in when we needed our vet the most. We had to find another vet in town at the very last minute, someone unfamiliar to us and unfamiliar to our dog to have him euthanized the same day, the added stress to an already terribly stressful and heartbreaking situation was indescribable. He wasn't just a pet, he was an important part of our family. Thankfully, the other vet was a Godsend! We were incredibly pleased with their services, the staff, the Dr and the entire process. They couldn't have been more accommodating. They made a heartbreaking situation very calm and loving. They will become our pets new place of healthcare from now on.
