We're on a long road trip, sometimes camping and sometimes staying in hotels. We made a last minute decision to stay in a hotel while traveling through Frankfort given unseasonably cold temperatures and heavy winds. When not camping, we usually stay in chain hotels, but a quick search showed prices that were higher than expected. (It was the week leading up to the Kentucky Derby, and the Lexington/Louisville/Frankfort area had seen a large influx of visitors). A stay at the Bluegrass Inn would be under $100, including taxes, and the motel had relatively good (albeit inconsistent) ratings online. They have 60 rooms, spread over two floors. Overall, we had a very good experience at the Bluegrass Inn. At check-in, the gentleman who checked us in worked with us to identify the room that best met our preferences (non-smoking, quiet). The room was very clean, and the bed and linens were comfortable. In addition, there was free WiFi and free parking directly outside of our room. In the reception area, there was a small work station area with a computer, monitor, and mouse. This is also where a free continental breakfast is offered in the morning (6-9 am). There is a small eating area (3 tables) in this reception area. The space is relatively small but the motel offered hot waffles and syrup, breads, oatmeal packets, apples, small cinnamon rolls, yogurt, coffee/tea/hot chocolate/orange and apple juices, and cereals (corn flakes; Froot Loops). There is also a seasonal pool, which is only open during the summer months. We had only one real issue. Only one side of the bed had a nightstand, so my husband put his phone (which also serves as an alarm) and watch on the floor. We checked out before he realized that both were still in the room. Thankfully, he remembered soon after checkout and the friendly hotel manager gave him the key to retrieve his items. We would return to this hotel when we return to Frankfort. read more

The good things about this hotel are the beds and fridge. These things are not the best but also it's kinda good. The bad things are that I found a nail on a person on a seat also the room smell like cigarettes but it wasn't that strong. This hotel isn't bad maybe they need better coffee but if you need a place for a pet and a place to sleep this is probably the spot. read more

Had to stop for the night in Frankfort Ky while driving to Chicago and did get there until 12:30. Fairfield wanted $230 a night so I happen to see the Bluegrass Inn close by so I stopped in. Place is older but very clean. Staff was extremely friendly and willing to get me checked In quickly. It was so great that I stopped there on the way back. $110 a night. What a bargain read more

I am going to upgrade my previous review. I decided to stay there again in September 2022. Especially after comparing rates for other hotels in the area. After all, just needed a bed for the night. This time, I made the reservation directly through their website. I did run into a glitch where it initially showed many rooms available and then - after clicking on review reservation, then "cook" - it said no rooms were available. I called and was advised to try online again, that the system sometimes had "glitches." I did - avoiding the review reservation screen - and the reservation took. It did NOT charge my credit card. But you need to read carefully the cancellation policy. Checking in, they did charge my card immediately for all the nights reserved. The only receipt was the tiny slip of paper coming out of their credit card machine. Rooms have been renovated with up to date furniture and fixtures. As good as the others. At half the price. Everything was immaculately clean. None of the occasional motel issues like bugs, bad plumbing, etc. Wifi is decent at about 13 Mbps which is good enough for YouTube video viewing and did not cut out. My room was not made up after the first or second night but was made up after the third night. This seems to be a thing now, with another hotel in Kentucky is doing the same thing, that they advise customers of in advance. So, a very satisfactory stay. read more

**TRAVEL NURSES DO NOT STAY HERE!!!**. Manager, Jay, took my money when I didn't even stay the night. He charges 13% verses the $0.06 tax rate for Kentucky. The room was horrible. Very dirty. Very similar to Red Roof Inn. The manager refused to give me my money back and didn't even give me the nursing rate of $70 and he was a total jerk to deal with in general. Indian owner, so I expected better. Most Indian owners are very agreeable and great to work with for all my former assignments. If you have to choose between a roach motel and Bluegrass Inn, you're better off with the roaches or in this case spiders. read more

The Indian family that runs the Inn are the rudest people I have ever met. I am 69 and was recovering from a total hip replacement and didn't realize I had to be out by 11. I packed as quickly as possible but they came to the room screaming at me. STAY AWAY from this place. read more

Surprisingly clean room!!! I needed to stay near the Kentucky Cabinet of Health and Family Center and I found on Expedia this small hotel which is about 2 miles away. This hotel is perfect for a one night of good rest or someone on business who just need a place to crash (that'd be me) 1. It is SUPER cheap compared to the chain hotels that I've stayed at. 2. The receptionist was so sweet and corteous 3. The room has old furniture but well kept and clean. 4. New (or fairly new) flat screen TV with more than 80 HD channels, and HBO package 5. A/C unit works well 6. Free breakfast: don't expect Queen Elizabeth's servings, but hey it's included in the price. They also have a vending machine on the halls 7. SUPER CLEAN pool 8. So I'll be honest... I wasn't sure we should stay here because it's in the middle of nowhere and cheap (we had a coupon for a room for $41) and kind of felt like being in the beginning part of a slasher movie. But it turned out fine - the room was clean, the TV worked, and it had a microwave and refrigerator. Breakfast was included with the room: cereal, pastries, instant oatmeal, toast, toaster waffles, coffee, and juice. At first, I had a really good opinion of this inn. The bathroom & carpet were very clean. We dug a bit deeper to find major stains under the mattress, bedspreads had carpet burns or stains on them, & the room smell took my breath with an overabundance of some cologne. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a police officer sitting behind it, where some "actions" were taking place. But looking over all that, decent priced place with no bed bugs. read more

I wanted so badly to give this hotel a good review. My heart was in the right place so I'll start with the good things. No bed bugs! A/C worked real well. Cable tv was good. Swimming pool real nice. Now for the bad. Internet cut in and out all the time. I ended up using my hotspot. Roach in the bath tub. Toilet paper holder was broke. No cleaning service. Room was not cleaned for us while we were out. They said we had a do not disturb sign. Uh, no we didn't. Then they said we called down and requested no service. Uh, not true at all. We never called down except to ask where the pizza place was. We were told we could speak to the manager Ray who was scheduled to be in all day. When we called they said he wasn't there. Never got the return call. I think what made us the most mad was the lying. And the roach. read more

Stayed in this little hotel for just an overnight trip my husband, myself and a few friends took. Got a double queen bed room. The room itself was nice and very clean; beds were made up nice and the fridge and microwave were clean. Just a side note the room to me smelled like baby powder. The beds were high even for me and I am 5"6 had to put a little extra umpff into getting into bed, but they were comfy. So if your short you may want to use the chair beside the bed to help yourself into it. The only real issue I had was the size of the bathroom. It was the room to change in and the only things in there was the toilet and the shower it was very cramped. If someone would have accidentally opened the bathroom door while you were in the toilet your knees would have paid the price. The shower was nice and clean and pressure was nice. Over all nice little hotel staff was friendly as well. Also side note I booked through Booking.com and it said free cancellation upon booking now I know there are stipulations you this but.. I tried to cancel the day of because our trip ended sooner than planned and we were just going to head back home. Mind yoU I tried to cancel early in the morning and they still were going to charge me the $80.00 for the room. So be sure to double check all that before booking. read more

My family and I went here after a storm had caused a tree to snap our powerlines in the backyard. The person who gave us a room wasn't very friendly. Once we got the the room, it was SO uncomfortable. It was just weird. Some of the ice machines didnt work, and the breakfast wasn't good. read more

Lady at front desk was very nice. Room was very clean (always my main concern) and they have a clean pool (always my other requirement). I like firm beds, but this one was a little too hard. I didn't care for this place at all. Each room has an attic door outside of the bathroom so anyone could climb up in the attic and get into your room. The roof looks like it's sagging in and it didn't look very safe. The bathrooms looked that of a gas station bathroom. All the pillows are stained, the bedding has holes in them. Even the concrete on the upper flooring looked cracked and ready to go. The stairway made of metal is rusted out and doesn't look sturdy. Many people leave their doors open at night and if you pass one by and look in, you might see something you won't like. When you walk in the room it instantly smells like smoke. The showers are slanted and the water will stay in the tub, just a warning. I also had bedbug bites all over my legs the next morning; the only reason I even stayed here was because my work had this craphole booked for me...unfortunately. read more

This is the perfect hotel for people who don't plan on spending lots of time in their hotel. The rooms were clean and the price was right - $50/night. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. We got lucky and our room (116) had a couch, which was great for hanging out with our friends who were in the next room and couchless. The wifi is free and the password can be obtained at check-in. The pool was open, but it was too cold to swim unfortunately. And as the previous reviewer said, the room contains both a refrigerator and microwave. While definitely not the most modern, updated hotel, the Bluegrass Inn has everything I need for a good night away from home. read more

The perfect motel for anyone on a budget who's taking I-64 and realizes that they need to stop for the night. I made reservations over the phone and pulled in around 2 am. The clerk behind the desk was reassuringly professional and uninterested in me. I felt comfortable here as a young woman traveling alone. (And, frankly, I needed to save some cash.) Clean room with old-fashioned bedspreads, good wi-fi, a functioning flat screen TV. Breakfast was free and very on-genre roadside Americana: orange juice in styrofoam cups, wheat and sugar in various forms. It feels like a Twilight Zone episode where the big reveal is that nothing bad happens: you sleep well, eat, and maybe drink some coffee before hitting the road. I enjoyed it more than I would have enjoyed staying in a chain hotel. Charmingly under-designed font and horse sign might remind the weary traveler of Kentucky Route Zero. read more

This is a real dive. The nice TV is worth more than everything else in the room combined. Feels very grungy & stuffy. Doors are directly to the outside. Worst was the shower curtain, off-white on top, orange and purple mold covering the bottom 1-2 feet. Runner up was the filthy carpet; my clean white socks were BLACK on the bottoms after 2 hour of walking around before bed.
