We're undertaking a downsizing move and decided to take very few of our belongings with us to our new space. We asked for a price on a used toaster oven with food particles-packaged in a different brand box that was high end, and she quoted EBay new prices. What was galling was that she added the phrase-"I'm not going to get in an argument with you". I tripped over Blue Waters yelp page on a lark and am thoroughly dumbfounded by the 4 star rating. I guess haters gotta hate but I feel compelled to clear up a couple fuzzy ideas about customer service that some might possess. Its a service, not a bend-over-and-take-it-up-the-buttvice. Lines get long. People get tense. Haggling sometimes sounds a bit more like arguing. And a 3% credit card charge is neither uncommon nor is it illegal. This is the way. Accept these little annoyances and you'll be filled with a lot less rage. That, and maybe cut red meat out of your diet. Catherine is a neat lady and an honorable businesswoman, but because she is nice the occasional wing-nut thinks they can get away with pushing her around just so they can save a couple of bucks. It happens a lot at estate sales. It's part of the deal, but she handles it grace and aplomb. To those who are clearly embittered for not getting the bargain they dreamed of, or having to wait, or unsuccessfully bullying cool people, try more fiber in your diet. It really helps. It must be a real balancing act, honoring your client who is going through great upheaval whilst giving the general public a crack at purchasing items it took a lifetime to amass, and would have cost a great deal more in a retail shop. I applaud Catherine and her whole crew for the great jobs they do. There are plenty of people who know how fun Catherine's sales are. And her last-day-bargains are awesome! I have notified this company on numerous occasions of their "illegal" practice of charging a 3% fee for using a credit card for purchases at their estate sales. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW in California to charge a patron a "service" fee, "convenience" fee or a "cover cost" fee. If you were charged a fee at one of her sales for using a credit card, it was done illegally. And you are due a refund in a timely matter. If the refund is not returned in a timely matter, then you are owed 3X the "fee' amount. If using one of the many estate sale search web sites. Look to see how many of those other estate sale companies have a credit card service fee. Most estate sale companies require a "min" purchase, say $50 for credit cards to make it worthwhile. But they do not require a "fee" to use your credit card. BlueWaters Relocation Services continue to violate the law. Makes me wonder if that is the only law they mind breaking. read more

I first met Catherine at a sale she ran in La Jolla several years ago, and have had the pleasure of doing business w/ her at many others ever since . As the following tale tells, she works well under fire and is true to her word: I expressed interest in an item several days before the final, discount day of the sale, and she told me to come back then so we could "talk turkey" if it hadn't been sold, a gamble I - and I daresay many other "estate sailors" - am usually willing to take. When I arrived, she told me another man had expressed similar interest in the same item, and told her he'd be at the sale by then, though he hadn't yet arrived. To respect her word to him, I agreed with her decision to hold off on the sale until he arrived, and suggested that the item be auctioned between the two of us. When he finally did arrive, he blustered into the sale, and loudly and rudely tried to force Catherine into selling him the item he claimed some sort of "right" to, even though he had put no deposit down. I offered a bit more than he was willing to pay, and he then lead her off (!) into another room where they could speak in private. Several minutes later, he stormed out and left the sale, without making any other offers or expressing a willingness to bid against me on the item, and Catherine emerged visibly shaken by the experience; he had been heard berating her behind the closed door. She offered me the item for what the guy had apparently offered her in private, which was slightly less than what I was willing to pay. However, because of what she went through in defending her integrity, I offered to pay my original, slightly higher amount, which she accepted. I was very much impressed with her honesty and fair dealing in the matter, and had absolutely no regrets about paying what I did when I might have paid a bit less. Since then, Catherine has impressed me with her professionalism and good management at all of her sales. She has good knowledge of items' history and worth, and is not shy about sharing it. She is pleasant to deal with, and deals fairly; I've never regretted any of the many purchases I've made from her over the past decade. Her sales are well run and her staff are equally knowledgeable and professional. If and when the time comes for me or my heirs to conduct my own estate sale, I will not hesitate to insist that Catherine and Bluewaters be the ones who run it. read more

This company had an estate sale in Pacific Beach. They put a sign on the light post near my house. After a couple weeks I called to see if the sale was still going on. The person I spoke with was cordial and expressed concern about leaving the sign up stating she would come and take it down. I even gave her the cross streets here in PB where it was located. It's been a while since I called and the sign is still there. I feel like she just gave me lip service and never intended to take the sign down. The phone number on the sign lead me to Blue Waters Relocation and Catherine Waters (located in Carmel Valley and not Pacific Beach). I hope Catherine's disrespect to this community (PB) and to me directly is more of an anomaly rather her MO, but at this point...I don't know. read more

I'm a reseller and go to many estates each month. I was excited to see a sale in El Cajon that started on Thursday since I was busy both Friday & Saturday. So many things are out of the control of the estate sale company but so many other little things can make a big difference. I won't go into every little annoying and rude thing - just the last one. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it took her 15 minutes to write up my less than 10 items- she answered several other pricing questions, had a rude conversation with another customer, had to "look up" a few of the books I was interested in (there were hundreds of books at this sale!) I seemed to be the least important thing that she was dealing with at the moment. I was so aggravated and was glad to finally be able to leave with my few purchases (there were many beautiful and interesting things but the prices were way high on most) It wasn't until I got home much later in the day and looked at my receipt that I realized she had overcharged me $10! Yes I know, only $10 but you better bet that I made time to go back the next morning, taking almost an hour out of my busy Friday. I waited my turn and watched her be rude to another customer and almost forget to give a credit card back to another one. When I explained she had overcharged me the previous day, she had a look of disbelief on her face and actually said "I'll be with you in a minute - Of course it was unintentional " I was not at all accusatory so was a little taken aback by her snarky comment. She then took my receipt and, while looking at it, said "no, I actually think this is correct" ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Did she really think I would come back if I wasn't sure?!? So insulting! She finally counted up and realized I was correct, reached over the other woman, took $10 out of the cash box & handed it to me. No apology - I guess the "unintentional" remark was supposed to be one? Um no- I calmly said "thank you and you charged me for using my credit card" which she replied with "yes, 3.4%" I just looked at her, knowing full well it was only 34 cents, also knowing that I better continue to bite my tongue in order not to flip out. She fumbled in a bag of coins and handed me my 3.4% I get asked a lot for recommendations for a good reputable estate sale company. Not only will I I NEVER recommend her, I will avoid her sales altogether and have already cautioned several friends about her. Really not worth the time read more

Cathy knows experts and collectors in all of the product types (jewelry, antiques, artwork, etc.) and is able to price items in a way that brings excellent prices and ensures that items are purchased by people who care about them. I am certain we got the top value for the items purchased at our estate sale. In addition to sale of valuable items, Catherine provided us with assistance with other matters, for example, shipping of furniture, final clean-up of the home and donation of certain items to non-profit organizations. A large estate sale will always draw a few difficult customers, and I was particularly impressed with how Catherine managed these situations. She kept the sale environment orderly and safe, a factor that I think further enhanced our overall financial outcomes from the sale. Catherine keeps impeccable financial records. Within a few hours of the end of the sale, she emailed me the sales results and issued a check for our share of the revenue. Catherine provided us with an essential service at a very tender time for our family. She navigated a lot of family emotions and potential conflicts in a sensitive and supportive way.
