I stopped by this afternoon in hopes of getting a head start on some plants for spring. The person who I solicited for assistance said the hanging baskets were not for sale and would not be until April. I asked what they would cost in April and that I was willing to pay the price and take with me and place in my greenhouse until they can go outside. He said "they still aren't for sale." I am not sure why parting with them now and at the full price I was offering would be an issue. It would mean one less plant to care for until spring and a sale now. Heard such good things about this nursery, went and was asking questions about the different plants varieties and guy that worked or owned it could not have acted like he was so irritated and the next thing I was still asking a question and he was gone ! My boyfriend brought me here because he'd been once before and loved it. I was skeptical because I've lived here my whole life and hadn't ever heard of it. After being here, I have no idea how I hadn't. This place is incredible. There are about 8 greenhouses, fully stocked with plants. There's even more past the greenhouses. Michael helped us find a good plant for our yard, and he gave great advice for planting our trees and caring for them. This place has been around for about 34 years, so it must be popular with the plant crowd. If you're looking for just plants, definitely come out to Blue Star. It's only about a 20 minute drive from East Gainesville and worth every minute. read more

My landscaper, Bruce, gets all my plants from this nursery and I'm never disappointed. The drive there is very calming to my psyche and it's only a short drive from Gainesville. Their prices are great and I've never had anyone of the guys there walk away from me when asking questions about the plants that would work in my yard. If my landscaper buys from them then I trust I will be happy with what ever I purchase from Blue Star........if I'm not, I trust they will make it right. read more

This is a Florida-friendly nursery that sells only plants that actually do well here. If you buy at the big box stores, it's possible those plants aren't truly compatible with Florida weather. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. This palace has been here forever, and has some truly spectacular old plants to view. read more
