My first visit early last Saturday night, me and the family dropped in on the off chance and managed to get a table. The first impressions are very good. It 's been recently refurbished in the current "contemporary" style, it has been well done and nicely finished throughout. Downstairs, laminate flooring, upstairs carpeted. We sat downstairs but I think I prefer the quieter upstairs. The staff were smart, pleasant & attentive.
It is licensed but you can take your own alcohol, unfortunately I didn't realise this till after I had ordered a round of drinks. There is an off license next door.
The menu is pretty good, a reasonable choice with a few fish dishes that seemed to be going down well with other diners.
The popadoms came with onion salad & three "dips". We had sheek kebab & onion bhaji starters, both nicely presented The latter was good but the kebab was bland, very bland but at least the meat was of good quality and cooked through.
Not deterred I was looking forward to the main course. The wife had CT sagwalla. Preferring something tasty, I was recommended something similar, the balti chicken sagwalla garlic chilli. When the meals arrived it turned out that the wife's dish had actually more flavour than mine. Whilst the chillies added heat there was no depth of flavour to the sauce. I suspect this could have been a bit of a one off but bearing in mind the kebab.
The menu makes reference to their award winning chef, perhaps he was cooking for another table. There were no complaints with the rice, chips or nan.
Based on my experience only 3 stars but on another night with a different dish I suspect it could be nearer 4. read more
