I was able to be weighed in, and also kitted up with some bright blue jump gear for the haul. My instructor, made me feel super confident, and had completed over 3000 solo sky dives. On the way up in the skydive plane, my instructor, and my partner coaxed me into taking the plunge and upping the fall quantity to 16,500 ft! Eeeeks! My nerves started getting twitchy, my instructor set up some oxygen, and made me have a few puffs, as we climbed from 9000 ft, to 13,000, then to 16,500 ft, I realised it was just, my partner and I left to go. I can only explain but its so hard to describe the euphoria of being tipped upside down, then free falling for 11,500 feet at 200 km per hour. I could see Auckland City, the beautiful black beaches of the west, the Kaipara Harbor, the glistening Hauraki Gulf and a scatter of islands. My parachute was pulled at 5000 ft, and I glided down gracefully, and was even able to chat to my partner in mid flight which was really special. When you walk in the get you to sign your life away with a legal document which makes you feel a little uneasy at first but after you have watched their instructional video and a chat with the instructor things feel much more relaxed. The dress you in their blue and orange jumpsuits, give you goggles and a hat to match and then they fit your harness. The plane went up and we were all eagerly watching, then we saw the little black speck jump out of the plane. He was falling for around six seconds and then it was about 5 mins with the parachute out. After your jump you have the option to purchase a video which is about $100 so pretty expensive, or to purchase still images for around $60. At the end of it my mate said it was one of the best things he has ever done and he was really happy with the company.

Instead of being the one taking the plunge, why not sit down and get shot up into the air. That sounds plausible right? I have done Sky Screamer a couple of times and it freaks me out with excitement every time! I have been both during the day in the light and at night. There isn't one I recommend more than the other, but if I had to pick one then I would say its more exciting to do it at night. You can see all the city lights, and I feel doing it at night seems a bit more spontaneous, therefore more exciting. There is no need to book. Here at the reverse bungy you can just turn up and ask to have a go, if they're free you can get on straight away, if not, the ride itself only takes a few minutes, so there isn't much waiting around at all. Where Sky Screamer is located is on the verge of a massive parking terminal. Or alternatively you can always park elsewhere in the CBD and walk to the Sky Screamer, it's not to far from anywhere in town.

It literally looks like my worst nightmare - being hurtled toward the heavens only to then plummet back toward the earth - not my idea of a good time. But everyone else seems to love it. Many of my friends have willingly signed up to ride this contraption (known as the Sky Screamer - need I say more), and every time they do I think 'maybe this is the time they'll realise it's an awful idea', yet this is never the case. Every person I have ever seen come off this ride has been giddy with delight and adrenaline. They love it. Thus, while I cannot personally recommend the Sky Screamer, the hoards of satisfied, excited customers that buzz around this bungy lead me to suggest it to all adrenaline junkies out there. Regardless of whether you are an Auckland local or a first time tourist to New Zealand, if you like pushing the boundaries and losing your stomach, this is the ride for you!
