I was able to be weighed in, and also kitted up with some bright blue jump gear for the haul. My instructor, made me feel super confident, and had completed over 3000 solo sky dives. On the way up in the skydive plane, my instructor, and my partner coaxed me into taking the plunge and upping the fall quantity to 16,500 ft! Eeeeks! My nerves started getting twitchy, my instructor set up some oxygen, and made me have a few puffs, as we climbed from 9000 ft, to 13,000, then to 16,500 ft, I realised it was just, my partner and I left to go. I can only explain but its so hard to describe the euphoria of being tipped upside down, then free falling for 11,500 feet at 200 km per hour. I could see Auckland City, the beautiful black beaches of the west, the Kaipara Harbor, the glistening Hauraki Gulf and a scatter of islands. My parachute was pulled at 5000 ft, and I glided down gracefully, and was even able to chat to my partner in mid flight which was really special. I promise myself to return one day, for a sure kick out of life.

Only 45 minutes along the western motorway (heading towards Kumeu) from Auckland CDB, this adventure is worth the drive. Aaron is the man you want to ask for! He is so incredibly helpful and chilled out, making this frightfully exciting experience that much more relaxing (if that's even possible). Once up in the air 12000 feet, the jump takes about 5-6 minutes to get back to land. There is also a 6000 foot jump for those wanting to 'take it easy' first time round. It literally looks like my worst nightmare - being hurtled toward the heavens only to then plummet back toward the earth - not my idea of a good time. But everyone else seems to love it. Many of my friends have willingly signed up to ride this contraption (known as the Sky Screamer - need I say more), and every time they do I think 'maybe this is the time they'll realise it's an awful idea', yet this is never the case. Every person I have ever seen come off this ride has been giddy with delight and adrenaline. They love it. Thus, while I cannot personally recommend the Sky Screamer, the hoards of satisfied, excited customers that buzz around this bungy lead me to suggest it to all adrenaline junkies out there. Regardless of whether you are an Auckland local or a first time tourist to New Zealand, if you like pushing the boundaries and losing your stomach, this is the ride for you!

However we brought two kids in to the city - one was dying to have a go on the bungy so we checked it out. $40 each and a minimum of 2 people. Bummer, nobody else was keen to get on board. $40 is way too expensive though. They were not very busy although lots of people were stopping to check it out. If they halved the cost they would make a LOT more money. As a business owner myself I am always gobsmacked at how short-sighted and greedy some people are. Also, ripping off tourists seems to be commonplace and should be stamped out!
