The soup was nothing special, so I think I'd opt for a side salad next time instead. The bowl was packed with an impressive variety of toppings, including salmon, peanuts, fried onions, avocado, oshinko, tamago, and seaweed salad, all topped with a sesame dressing. While I appreciated the generous portions and the freshness of the salmon and vegetables, the bowl felt a bit heavy overall. There was a lot going on, and I found the amount of fried onions and peanuts to be more than necessary. The sesame dressing was tasty, though there was a bit too much of it for my preference. I also noticed that the tamago and seaweed salad tasted premade and a bit sugary, which took away from the light, fresh quality I usually look for in sushi. However, I know that sweetness is fairly common for those ingredients, and I think many people would like this hearty style of poke. This spot was a few blocks away and so I decided to take a gamble on their lunch special: Jumbo Shrimp Teriyaki over Brown Rice + Seafood Hot & Sour Soup. For a total of $15.24, this was a lot of food! It's a steal compared to the other food options in the Flatiron area. The soup was tasty and piping hot - exactly how I like it and what I was looking for. It contained a few pieces of mini shrimp and strips of imitation crab meat. I've been going here a bit too much not to update. As the other good sushi place in the area (Oishi) has both gotten more expensive and now essentially matches this spot in terms of price, I prefer this place now. The sushi quality is just as good, the staff is a whole lot nicer (with the staff at the other spot concentrating on takeout orders primarily,) and there's more options. An example would be the unique seafood hot and sour (with fish cake and mini shrimp) with your sushi instead of the usual generic miso soup which is also a bit better here as well with the addition of mushrooms. read more

The food is excellent, and the people are really nice and it's a nice peaceful place to sit. But I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, because they often don't allow you to make changes to what they have on the menu. For example, if something comes with tuna OR salmon, and you want half tuna and half salmon instead, they won't do that. Other places normally allow that.
