Awful service. I took my 13 yo daughter in bc she loves the dresses. She's 5'7" and wears a sz 12. They kept telling her the dresses wouldn't fit and if she tried anything on not to break the seams. Really??! She is not plus size and the sz larges fit her just fine. Saw them do and say something similar to another woman who was a sz 10. I approached the owner and said that was inappropriate to approach anyone to tell them they were too large for their dresses and not to tear them. They said the dresses were from Hong Kong and they didn't fit like American dresses. They were just protecting their merchandise and why would I get upset. I get that people can be destructive but seriously we were not trying on the extra smalls- the larges fit . Telling us once was enough but they kept coming back to make sure the clothing was still intact! Wish I could give this place a negative stars. read more

This shop has made my daughter ridiculously happy since she was 3. The staff is incredibly nice and goes out of their way to make her feel great about her choices. It's an over-the-top blingy girlie shop with lots of costume jewelry, tiaras, and Sanrio/anime inspired stuff. For her, it's like a treasure chest. Her most recent acquisitions are sitting on the seat next to her as we drive home. (The $9 dolls, 2 for $13.50). read more

Up and down this engineered street are your typical shops catering to folks with touristy intentions, including artsy fartsy galleries with cheesy oceanview paintings, "Screw this, I'm going to Rockport" T-shirt stores, and Halloween New England boutiques. Blue Lantern, however, is a darling quirky little boutique clothing and accessory store that could actually find a place somewhere in the South End or even Newbury Street. Owned by a very pleasant Asian lady, it is clearly beloved and pampered, much like the rest of the town. The clothes are rather reasonably priced for a boutique, and are stylish, albeit a little trendy at times. They've got those long sweater dresses (~$50), 80s career woman satin blouses with the neck tie that have made a comeback (~$40), and my personal new crush, the 3/4 sleeve herringbone pattern tweed trapeze coat with large round buttons ($140). The purses are cheap and really crazylike, patchwork, chains, pockets - you're sure to find something you like. The jewelry is gaudy, but if you're into rhinestones and lady bug earrings, you might just find what you need here. I like it. I like the care with which the owner treats the store, and how excited she is about her own merchandise. It's endearing. I'll come back the next time I'm touring the North Shore. read more

I recently went back to Rockport and stopped by the Blue Lantern, which I use to like a lot. I guess it just all seemed like gotti-crap that you don't need but buy. The purses were ugly, why spend the money on it when you can go buy a designer bag or something better than those ugly patterns. The sunglasses and jewelry were okay but it all seemed like what a teenager/pre-teen would come and splurge her allowance on. Not my cup of tea anymore. Blue Lantern just disappointed me. read more

I can't begin to explain all that you could find in The Blue Lantern. From earrings, to dresses, to Hello Kitty to gossamer winged fairies ( of which I bought 2 :). The male half of the ownership was a doll -- helping me look through fairies to figure out which had the best faces & even holding 3 up so that I could compare. He basically ripped his window display down so that I could see them all...Now that's salesmanship! ( It was also buy 1 get one 1/2 off at the time). The clothing was interesting but unforunately I am a bit more Zaftig then the sizes they had. My loss :) Also loved the satin clutches fashioned of multiple rosettes in beautiful jewel tones ( all for $35!). read more

I came here during the areas off season, end of December. They were having a half off everything sale. What made me go in though was that they have hand held fans, which I bought for 2.50 each! They have the biggest variety of hair clips I have ever seen. Style, color, size, it is ALL there! Also Unique earrings, and some boots. Many of the things are bright colors, and the store seems to be lit up! They have clothes, mostly too inappropriate for my taste, very revealing dresses for club goers. With that said, they also have sweaters! With rabbit fur on them. I wish I could justify buying one because they were very cute but I just wouldnt wear it much. The store owners are asian, they were quite friendly. They seem to have been discouraged when I was there, I guess in the 10 years they have been there they have had less and less business each year which is sad because this store is a girls dream! It makes guys kind of uncomfortable though. I went in with a married couple, her husband was outta there and waiting outside within 5 minutes! read more

I stopped in a few months ago, but didn't have time to really shop, but did see things I liked. I was there yesterday and had plenty of time to look around. Really cute and reasonable priced dresses, but I'm 60 so they weren't for me. But I do love the bright summer colors and bought some beautiful colorful jewelry, I love odd pieces and it was buy one get 1/2 off second piece, For a tourist attraction area the prices for their things are in the lower range. and bought a cute Betty Boop handbag (50% off). I go to rockport ever summer for 3 weeks+ and go in blue lantern every day with m friend because they got new shipments of clothes daily! i have a dress from theere..a couple of shirts.. and the cutest pair of sunglasses! if you are looking for an outfit youve had in your mind for a while but couldnt find it anywhere, or a beautiful piece of jewelry for cheap, or even a handmade decorated jewelry holder you will find it here! read more

My wife and I shopped at the Lantern on our Honeymoon in June of 1961. We bought matching sweaters like many newly weds do and enjoyed wearing them for many years. The Blue Lantern is full of unique clothing that you can't find anywhere else. I live in Beverly which is close by, so i go there all the time! Every time i wear something from there I get complemented.The customer service there is fantastic and they have great prices, you just have to look for them. The dresses also last 10 times longer that i get from there. But I would watch out because it is easy to splurge! read more
