I invested so much into this realty company and ended up walking away with a horrible experience. There were so many things promised that the owners (Amie/Paul) did not follow through with. As a tenant, I experienced having to live with a leaky roof and pay for the repairs myself. Although this type of maintenance/repair should have been covered by the owner (as agreed to in the signed lease agreement), they simply refused. My phone calls, messages and emails were ignored most of the time. Definitely go with another company if you are doing research before deciding on a realty company to go with, this should not be the one! Two thumbs down. read more

We rented an apartment through blue key property mgmt regrettably for 3 years. Time and time again they proved themselves to be unprofessional, unresponsive, clueless, and at times blatantly disrespectful. When applying Chris made ignorant and unnecessary comments about our salaries and who the "bread winner" in the relationship is. That should've been my first clue to run. I don't have a positive thing to say about any of the team members that we interacted with. Do not rent through blue key if you want to be treated with respect, if you want your phone calls or emails answered, if you want a mgmt company that will provide maintenance for minor or even serious home issues, if you want truthful answers to inquiries about your home, if you want a team that's knowledgeable about the property that you're living in. Do not rent at 339 N Skidmore street if you want your heat to work in the winter (it will stop working anytime the temperature is below freezing and they will not offer accommodations such as a hotel.) Do not live at Skidmore if you expect gutters that have been leaking and are now are detaching from the sides of the house to be fixed. Do not live there if you want AC, you will roast in the summer (and if your tour is anything like ours Torston will tell you that the unit has AC which it does not). Do not live there if you expect them to know anything about the property, its layout, its appliances, power sources, etc. "You live in unit B? which floor is that on again?, unit B is on the top floor? that makes no sense" constantly confused and clueless. Do not rent at Skidmore because when the basement neighbors move out and turn their power off, blue key will forget again that will make the other units have no hot water and no access to the hot water heater, but it will take them 3-5 days to figure out (again) how to resolve this issue because they either don't have notes about the property and how it works or they don't read them. Once you've lived there a while you'll be able to tell them what they need to do to resolve the issue (don't worry it will still take a good 3-5 days for your hot water to come back) if you are the type of tenant that wants complete privacy, this situation may work out for you, bc they will never come around, never bother you, because they do NOT care. So sneak your pets in, throw some parties, no one will know or care. They avoid coming to check on the property so much that If your pipe under the sink is leaking through the floor into the downstairs unit causing emergency water damage, Veronica the head of the "maintenance" department will call you and threaten you that if you don't go home from work RIGHT NOW to let the plumbers in they will shut the water off for the whole building until they can reschedule the plumbers on another day. but no she will not do her job and take the spare set of keys over there to let the plumbers in herself, you'll have to emergency leave your job to make sure you and your neighbors still have water. They will also be very shady about your security deposit when you move out. We spent days thoroughly cleaning. And we got the carpets professionally cleaned as REQUIRED per the lease. During the final walkthrough they pointed out that we did miss some cobwebs and a few cabinets and baseboards were still dusty. We agreed that there were a few things that we missed. Then we were surprised when they charged us $500 for professional cleaners. When we asked for more details, they showed us that the cleaning quote included redoing all the floors that we already PAID to have cleaned as required! Among cleaning other areas that we were told were fine upon walk out. we asked them to get a new cleaning quote that didn't include redoing what we already paid professionals to do. It was a painful experience with months of calling and emailing them and being ignored by everyone in the office. (Amber and everyone else at the office avoided picking up my calls unless I used an app to disguise my caller ID) Long story short they never got a new cleaning quote and said they'd give us $200 back to "be done with it" They were so shady about it. We 100% do not believe that they send in professional cleaners. Through this painful experience it became clear that they just get an expensive cleaning quote, take that from your deposit and never have the cleaners go back and actually clean. they could never confirm to me that the cleaning actually happened and the unit has been vacant for 2.5 months. It's not going to happen at this point, and they gave me $200 back to get me to stop asking them. We don't even think they're nice to each other? My husband witnessed Torston yelling at Amber when she was trying to help us figure out the security deposit discrepancy. Nothing positive to say about this company. After using Blue Key for several years, we thought everything was going well and that they were taking good care of our home. Of course wear and tear happens over time but they were responsible for taking pictures in between the renters to make sure damage could be repaired by the proper renters. We recently got back into our house and it is completely trashed. The carpets look like the dogs pooped, peed, vomited, slept, and got washed daily on them. We will have to replace all the floors. Every blind in the house is damaged. The microwave handle was BROKEN OFF and that falls under "owner maintenance". The front and back yard are completely destroyed with weeds, holes, and overgrowth. Drains were completely clogged and flooded over into the house when we turned water on. Their answer to all this is that they "don't know which renters were responsible for damages" but if they had been taking pictures as promised that would not be the case. After the final renters left it took us two weeks, several un returned phone calls and emails and finally an aggressive voice mail to get a call back with an answer to our question "when will we get the keys to our house so we can assess the situation?" We would NOT recommend Blue Key to take care of your rental. read more

BEWARE! Horrible service for landlords. They are too busy to help you, they don't check to make sure the tenants have paid their rent, they don't collect late fees. they told me not to rely on the rent to pay the mortgage. I ended my contract and then Chris told me he was to busy to give me the tenants money and he has 21 days legally, even though he told me he would do it within a week. Not good service, they also told me they have 500 properties so they cant track anything for me I have to track it. when I asked what I was paying them for Ashley said "to maintain your property" I said you aren't though, all you are doing is making me pay you and not even collecting the rent. horrid service. they were also rude to me every time I called and Chris often avoided my calls and emails. If I could give zero, I would. The response posted to this review just further verifies the total lack of professionalism, and inability to keep their story straight. I indeed contacted the Blue Key many times, but not for them to share the price. The house owner had recently fixed the fallen fence in the front yard, and my contact with the company was simply requesting permission to tear down the old fence (including the portion they had just fixed). The tenants also had two small children and a dog. I wanted to ensure they knew for two weeks or so, there would be no fence separating our yards. The company refused to return my calls, was rude, and lied about the currents tenants. I eventually spoke with the neighboring tenants myself, who also had terrible things to say about the management of the property. My conversations with Blue Key were like battling a small child for a simple task that could have been resolved in a quick call. Blue Key should be put in time out if they continue to act like tantruming toddlers. I would stay away. read more

If I could put a ZERO I would. I rented from these guys. Some of the office staff are very nice and do their job because they want to keep it. The two main "gentlemen" running this circus are unprofessional and are bullies to say it nicely. When I moved out, I gave them a move out date. Because their staff messed up and got the date wrong, and had it 4 days earlier, they forced me out with no time for me to be able to clean up or take my garbage bags off the premises or wipe down the appliances, stuff like that. I literally had to pack till 4am on a work day and get my stuff off the property. Then they kept my $1,000+ deposit for cleaning up the place. These guys are nothing but thugs. Get this, during the first year I moved in, the condos were going through some major remodeling. My garage floor was ripped out and lowed by a foot, this required the relocation of the interior garage door and steps. This project went on for 9 weeks...around Christmas no less!! But did ANYONE FROM BLUE KEY EVER SHOW UP TO INSPECT WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE CONTRACTORS? To REPRESENT THEIR CLIENTS BEST INTEREST? HELL NO. I was there. I worked from home at key times to make sure all went well. AND I DIDNT OWN THE PLACE!! I would caution anyone from RENTING or letting them manage your property. They are in it for the bottom dollar and that's it. read more

Don't be discouraged from the reviews below. Blue Key has been extremely helpful throughout my time as a tenant with them. They are as punctual as it gets when it comes to responding to meet your needs, and helping with maintenance request. Lori & Chris are both tremendously patient and helpful. Aside from the large deposit. I was provided with a beautiful home in a central location in Portland! They have great properties and great service. I haven't received my deposit back, considering I haven't moved out. But I'm confident they will send me my deposit. It's just all a matter of treating your house with respect. My work moves me all over the country, and I've worked with lots of landlords and property management companies. Torsten and Chris at Blue Key were among the best I've dealt with in 15 years of renting. Torsten accompanied me on our check-in walk-through, inspecting along with me, noting the things I pointed out and even suggesting some things I didn't think were a big deal. During the lease, we had a couple of maintenance issues. They always responded quickly (usually within a business day) and the issues were corrected within two days. Torsten came out for our check-out as well, went over the end-of-lease items with me, and gave me a verbal confirmation that everything looked good. Not sure what Kortni's issue is - a fence sounds like an issue for the owner, not the PM company. I have been renting from Blue Key for about two and a half years now. Wonderful experience across the board. In the wind storm we had last year, part of the roof blew off and there was bare plywood exposed. I noticed this on my lunch break, Blue Key had the problem fixed, the bare spot patched, before I got home from work. I have never felt as safe as I do in a Blue Key property. We rented from Blue Key for over a year. I've rented places in Ellensburg, Yakima, Olympia and Portland. This company is the worst, flat out. Right from the beginning. Be sure to read the contract. We had sections crossed out, right off the bat. That was about rental increases during the lease period. The section says they have a right to raise the rent during the lease. What's the point of a lease? Half measures all the way through. Poor responsiveness, rude and condescending. At the end of the lease period, as indicated in the lease, we went to a month to month. After a few months, we were contacted by BKPM. They said we were hundreds of dollars behind. What? They began automatically, without any notice, charging us a $50 fee per month. Even though the rental section of the contract indicated thirty day written notice is required to raise the rent. A lawyer indicated they could not charge the fee without the notice. After they yelled at us on the phone and threatened me " oh we are going to have fun now in court," they reversed those charges when we moved out. Cool right? Nope, they failed to send our deposit in the required 30 days after we moved out. They invented damage claims, like a hole in a screen ($60), a drill hole in the linen closet (are you kidding me? I can't even imagine why we'd do that), 4 burned out lights ($20!), 30 yep 30 nail holes in the living room! Who hangs thirty pics in their living room?! Why did they reverse the month to month fee? Because you won't see it on the contract. It's hidden in the fines and penalty section without explanation. We didn't closely review that section since we never expected any penalties or fines. We have always had our deposit returned at every place we've ever rented. Always! All of our previous landlords give us a high recommendations. We've both rented our homes to others. We get what it takes. Bottom line, you'd be wise to rent from another property management company. There are tons of good ones out there! PS: Please see Lisa Bs review also. I owned three townhomes in Vancouver WA. After going through a series of terrible property managers, I found Blue Key - they have been amazing. They got my properties cleaned up, got the leases cleaned up. When I had vacancies, they got them filled up quickly with good tenants. I got reports on time, I got paid on time, I got issues addressed quickly. When it came time to sell, they were even better. They helped me get my properties ready to put on the market, priced it well enough that I got full price or above offers on each property and took care of any contingency issues for me. Blue Key managed my property for me. They helped get me more rent out of my place than I thought I could. They have also gotten really good renters in my place. How may other people can say their renters left the place better then when they moved in? They were always responsive to me as well. The only cons is that at times they didn't get back to my renters. PROPERTY OWNERS BEWARE! I found a listing that I loved and applied for the property. Chris contacted me and asked some general questions making sure we qualified for the home. I told him I wasn't 100% sure about my credit score because I have been a stay at home mom for the last 7 years but my husbands credit score is over 750. He just wanted to be sure mine was over 600 and I told him yes. Chris told me there was an applicant ahead of mine and he was giving them until Friday to make a decision. I haven't heard from him since. The office won't answer my calls and advised me that Chis has a busy schedule and I need to keep trying. I left him a voicemail three days ago... We own a home and I would not recommend this company. If your home is vacant, this is probably why. Needless to say I have been approved through two other properties, Sun World and The Management Group, so our $2,000 a month in rent will be spent elsewhere. read more

Torsten said some very inappropriate things while on I had him on phone. I currently work for the federal government. When Torsten found out what I did for a living he CONTINUOUSLY put me down called me a horrible corrupt person because I worked for the government. He went on and on about how horrible the government is and how awful I was because I work for them. Needless to say, I ended the uncomfortable conversation and have not talked to either Chris or Torsten since. Think Twice before using this company for anything. I made an appointment with a staff member there for a very cute little house. She explained to me that nobody was on the waitlist and she had an opening for 6:30 on a weekday. I accepted this, knowing this would be an hour commute for me. (I explained to the person that I was coming from Hillsboro). I happen to arrive a little bit early and waited for a staff member to show up.. well they did not. After 20 minutes of waiting, I called.. no answer. Then about 10 minutes after that (around 6:40ish), I received a phone call from another person stating that the place was already taken and the papers were signed this morning. I find this to be completely irresponsible!! So, I understand that sometimes there is miscommunication between staff/departments, so that is forgiven. However, I called in the morning to make the appointment and the employee who is designated for the house could have called me any point of the day to cancel rather than waste my time and call me after 6:30. Once again, this is extremely unprofessional and a bad representation of the agency.Sadly, I will not be looking at any other properties for this company even though there are a few other properties I would have been very interested in. read more

I also am not sure why my reviews keep disappearing from the post, but I will post again. Renting from this company was nothing short of a nightmare! Beware of their poor and unprofessional business practices. My review keeps disappearing, but before you rent from them read all reviews. We were charged for many items we didn't do. Even though we had before and after pictures. They took pics of every nail hole in the wall even though many were there before. The walls were not even painted before we moved in. We used our own money and painted, after their approval, with expensive custom paint, bought large pcs of carpet to cover the carpet stains that came back through 3 wks after they had it cleaned it. the worst was upon move out where we were treated like children, and blamed and charged for many things we did not do. The one who did the walk through even yelled at me (in front of my 10 year old son and outside in front of neighbors who later said they couldn't believe what they heard and saw) because I was pointing out what was already there before. They were very nice and helpful in the beginning when they were wanting our business. They turn quickly into unprofessional and childish people when moving out. One even threatened me that he would keep more of my deposit if I kept arguing. I too spoke to my attorney who also agreed with illegal practices such as no longer accepting our pre move in photos upon move out, not responding to dangerous deck boards that were so old they were breaking through, and threatening to keep more of my deposit for fighting for what is right. If I could give them a negative score I would. Very deceiving. Note: I rarely write reviews, I am a professional in the medical field. I normally give people the benefit of the doubt, but I feel so strongly about warning others, I feel it is important to post what I experienced. Also worth noting, when I first rented from them, I was pushed to write a good Google review when they were helpful in the beginning. They even tried to pull it up on their computer at the time of renting so we could type it in on their computer before we left. I almost did, since this was in the beginning when they were helpful.
