    Breakfast cook by Lenore!
    Beth Yanjin M.

The house is fantastic. The host has the world-class taste. Lenore is a good cook and we had great time there. And we are lucky enough to meet Ginger!

Zucchini pancakes, Turkey sausage, cheesy grits, and fried bananas

Just left Blue Jay Manor and we had a fantastic time! Lenore greeted us with yummy signature blue cocktails before showing us to our beautiful Charleston room. It was cozy with a very large Jack and Jill washroom. I loved the huge chaise chairs that were also in the bedroom. It was a great spot to read during some downtime. Down the hall was a guest lounge where books, games, and television was located. In the morning Lenore left coffee in the lounge early before breakfast. It was a wonderful way to start the morning. Breakfast was delicious both mornings. The food seemed never ending and there were so many options. I loved the zucchini pancakes and my boyfriend really enjoyed the rum raison French toast. Lenore was an amazing hostess! She gave us great restaurant recommends and told us about some great local shops. We can't wait to return again. Hopefully soon when the weather is a little warmer and we can enjoy the swimming pool!

Peaceful and complimentary coffee in the lounge

The positives: the breakfast was good, the bed was comfortable, the hosts were sweet and catering, there was a complimentary cocktail upon arrival and a lovely complimentary coffee set up in the morning, the room was decorated with beautiful antique furniture, the room itself was clean, the outside of the home is beautiful. The negatives: allergens! There is a dog in the house. Unfortunately, the owner smokes and it is extremely obvious. I smelled it on the porch before even going in. Safety. Our door did not latch and therefore did not lock. The bathroom was actually a jack and Jill (even though online it appears that the Charleston has its OWN bathroom). There is no way to lock the door to the bathroom - anyone staying in the other room could get to our room. There was a spider/web in the bathtub. The blinds in the room didn't work and the sun shone in very early in the morning. I do believe there were dog droppings on the carpet in the downstairs living area. Unfortunately, despite many very lovely and positive attributes the smell and the lack of locks on doors made our trip a bit uncomfortable.

It's become a comfortable place for me when visiting back home. I've stayed at great places all over the globe, including a lot of impressive B&Bs (and a few not so impressive!). Arbor Hill Inn is a gem. The rooms are appointed comfortably. They have themes, and from my perspective, are done without being cloying or over the top . The prices are reasonable and the breakfasts are a lovely (and nicely done) way to start the day. The owners and staff are very accommodating and pleasant, and know how to run a place without being intrusive (the house and annex are laid out in a way that one has decent privacy).

From the first phone call, the staff (Chris) accomodated every request from a larger room to a later check in! She was also very helpful in determining realistically how long our travel from Midway would take! While in residence in Uncle Karl's room, we were treated to freshly baked cookies and tasty breakfasts. The wedding party took over the place and the owners didn't seem to mind at all! Great place for a wedding! Upon returning home, my husband realized he left a club on the golf course! The club was located but the course was not helpful in sending it across the country. Never mind, Laura at Arbor Hills to the rescue! With a bit of online coordination, UPS picked up the club and my husband received it in good time and stead. Talk about the extra mile! Don't know when we will be back, but for sure we will stay here again! Thanks for making our stay comfortable!

However, Jim (the owner and host), was extremely gracious and welcoming. We went straight to our rooms after a brief "interview" with Jim. Necessary to determine our likes and dislikes for breakfast. Our rooms were beautiful. Impeccably kept. We learned Jim is responsible for laying the tile in the bathrooms. There aren't any televisions in the rooms on purpose. I'll be sure to pack a book next time I stay at a B&B. Our daughter was with us so it was nice to visit with her instead of being distracted by a television. Our first morning, we had breakfast with a few of the other guests. Jim prepared Scrambled Eggs served in a Roasted Bell Pepper, with Asparagus, Garlic Grits (AMAZING), salad and fruit. Prior to receiving our main breakfast course, we were served warm, cinnamon bananas and also a chocolate croissant. The next morning, we had a private breakfast. We were served Poached Pears, a Carrot Cake muffin, followed by Quiche, Potatoes, Sausage, & fruit. Both days, Jim catered to my daughter's dislike of eggs making her French Toast with Cinnamon Apples the first day and Oatmeal with Cinnamon Apples (our suggestion) the second day. The entire Inn is very inviting. Jim sat with us at breakfast our second and last morning and shared his story with us. Highly recommend the Valparaiso Inn. So glad we were booked here.

Dennis did an amazing job keeping everything running smoothly on the day of the wedding. The mansion is stunning inside and out, which made for amazing photos and ambiance. Andy & Nita are fantastic hosts. We arrived and were greeted by Andy who quickly showed us to his version of "afternoon tea" which was wine and freshly baked cookies. Oh.my.God. They were delicious! We were given a tour of the property, along with some history. Andy took his time in explaining a map of the city and giving his recommendations for things to do and restaurants. This was such a nice and personal touch. We stayed in the Michigan Room. It was so warm and cozy. We felt right at home. This B&B is the perfect blend of modern and vintage. It definitely had the original charm of the home. But, it also has great modern conveniences such as an Apple TV, USB wall chargers and a pretty amazing shower. Entrance to the house, and your room, is by a personal code. Again, super cool:) There are towels aplenty and the bath robes are made from the worlds softest material. The house is located on a very quiet street which makes relaxing so easy. Do yourself a favor and take a walk around the neighborhood. The charm in the surrounding houses sends you back in time. It's a short 5 minute walk to downtown or to the beach. Breakfasts were amazing! On day 1, we had homemade stuffed cinnamon swirl french toast, fruit and yogurt parfait, an egg souffle and organic sausage. Day 2 was homemade cinnamon rolls, bacon and a caramelized apple, pecan and brie omelette. Whenever Andy wants to cook for you, just say yes because it's going to be heavenly! It was so nice sitting with Andy and the other couple for some fun and informative conversation. Overall, the personal touches are what set this B&B above and beyond any experience we've previously had. Thank you, Andy & Nita!
