I absolutely loved relaxing in the room spa tub after long days of hiking in the chilly air. Each room also had a small balcony on the floor I was on. The only downside is the walls are quite thin. I was privy to an entire argument (while I was trying to nap) as well as the ensuing "make up". Needless to say, my nap ended pretty quick and I headed back out to explore more of the area. Overall, the hotel was lovely and I would stay here again.

The halls and common areas were comfortable but our room was very humid and smelled wet despite the a/c running and fan on. Fairly outdated and furniture and fixtures are pretty beat up. Beds were comfortable but pillows were lumpy. Pool and sauna were standard hotel experience. It's fairly charming despite the negatives. This place kind of has a monopoly on places to stay near the dunes so the price is high - definitely not comparable with the experience but options are limited. Would probably still stay here again.

Tea, when I checked followed By Tea and handmade breakfast. All the rooms have in-suite bathrooms, Jim did all the work on the renovations! Over 4 years, the workmanship was incredible! Though not on my way to anyplace I am likely to go, I will definitely stay here again. As an FYI, I have over 2300 nights at Bonvoy properties and a few hundred spread across other hotel chains. However, Jim (the owner and host), was extremely gracious and welcoming. We went straight to our rooms after a brief "interview" with Jim. Necessary to determine our likes and dislikes for breakfast. Our rooms were beautiful. Impeccably kept. We learned Jim is responsible for laying the tile in the bathrooms. There aren't any televisions in the rooms on purpose. I'll be sure to pack a book next time I stay at a B&B. Our daughter was with us so it was nice to visit with her instead of being distracted by a television. Our first morning, we had breakfast with a few of the other guests. Jim prepared Scrambled Eggs served in a Roasted Bell Pepper, with Asparagus, Garlic Grits (AMAZING), salad and fruit. Prior to receiving our main breakfast course, we were served warm, cinnamon bananas and also a chocolate croissant. The next morning, we had a private breakfast. We were served Poached Pears, a Carrot Cake muffin, followed by Quiche, Potatoes, Sausage, & fruit. Both days, Jim catered to my daughter's dislike of eggs making her French Toast with Cinnamon Apples the first day and Oatmeal with Cinnamon Apples (our suggestion) the second day. The entire Inn is very inviting. Jim sat with us at breakfast our second and last morning and shared his story with us. Highly recommend the Valparaiso Inn. So glad we were booked here.

We were so impressed by the tranquil accommodations and Barbara and Efrain were so welcoming! The decor was beautifully bird themed, but not cheesy. Gorgeous really. The speakers and large windows in the dining room made hearing and seeing the birds outside very enjoyable. Barbara prepared a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, juice, and French toast sooffle. The room had an electric fireplace, turned on by a switch right next to the bed, and the huge jacuzzi tub! OH the jacuzzi tub!! It was easy to find. What can I say?? It was dope!

They also have a cute pup. Loved it! Last comment that I'll add--I saw someone review that this place smells like cigarette smoke. It didn't at all. I'm actually highly sensitive to cigarette smoke, often having allergic reactions. I didn't react at all!

However, we stayed in the Cambridge Cottage during the cold month of January. There isn't a furnace, only a wall unit space heater. (And there was a window air conditioner.) The ceiling had leaks, the walls were dripping and the windows were rotting. Lots of TLC needed in there! We chose the Cottage for privacy, but definitely should have stayed in the main house. We contacted the phone number given to us about the heat issue, but our voice mail was never returned...still to this day. Thank goodness that there were extra blankets in the drawer, because we used 3 down blankets that evening to stay warm. Could not use the shower, since it was so cold in the Cottage. The bedroom was in the upstairs loft, there was a kitchenette with a microwave and small refrigerator. Regular bathtub with shower. No fireplace. The entryway blinds were broken, they would not slide shut. Stay in the Main House, if you don't mind sharing a bathroom!

If you're looking for something negative, the breakfast was marginal, and that's being generous. There wasn't much of it, what was available was not high quality, and once it's gone they don't replenish. So, I'd recommend getting to breakfast early and not setting your standard very high. But that being said, the rest of the stay was pretty great. I'm guessing they don't do a tremendous amount of business this time of year, and they appear to be working with a skeleton crew. But for me that was the draw. I got to swim each morning by myself and there certainly wasn't any parties going on keeping me up at night. The few people they did have working here were super helpful and kind. Best Westerns are typically hit or miss. They are either a Best Western or a Worst Western. This one would lean hit. It's not new, and like me in many ways it is showing its age. But who cares? I had a good stay and I'd certainly recommend.

Dawn was so hospitable, helpful and accommodating! The on-the-go breakfast was nice, not much different than what I have when I'm working from home base: hot coffee, cold yogurt, and a piece of fruit for later, or a honey bun, if I want something sweeter. My only complaint is that the bathroom could be bigger. Other than that, outstanding, would stay again, and probably will!

Wow, I should have really listened to the bad reviews on here. But, it was the only hotel in my…read morecompany's price range. Even then it is not worth the price I paid. As soon as you walk in, it smells like an old musty hotel. Check-in was fine and pretty quick. The hallways weren't too bad and it looks like they replaced the carpet. I got to my room and almost fell over from the smell. Really musty, not mildew. Smelled like old smoke. The carpets in the rooms doesn't look like they have been changed. Some genius has the a/c down to 60 degrees and it is only 61 outside. And, who had the bright idea of having a bathroom door, right in front of the motion detecting light switch. Nothing like doing magic in the dark to get the light to come on. Then i realized the door was in front of it. And, then there is a motion light switch in the bathroom. Nothing like having the light turn off while you are in the shower. I really should have stayed somewhere else. It serves its purpose, but not as good as other super 8's.
