    The falls
    Rachel Macie H.

Looking for a short but sweet walk then you've come to the right place! This walk is very short meaning it takes less than 10 minutes to get to the falls so for that I'm calling this a walk as it's more of that than a hike! The trail is some old pavement in the beginning then that takes you to a bridge across the stream and then it's a right turn and your practically at the falls and from there you can walk down to it or just stand above it either way it's really pretty and just kinda mellow! There was a few people here but not many on this given day as for that reason we were kinda stoked because I can see how this could get crowded really fast because it's soo much so of an easy walk. The falls were super pretty and I could see a bit of it that was just blue so I'm guessing that is where the name comes from basically it's a small falls that is just mellow to check out for a bit. Overall pretty little spot that's super easy to get to and perfect for all ages who knows if I'll make it here again but it's definitely a cool spot to check out for a bit!

Perfect for what it is-a small and pretty waterfall that's an easy walk from the road. Pros: -about a .6 mile walk from the road. -walk is shaded the entire way. -signs are clear, trail is easy to follow, easy footing. -There's a slight hill, nothing hard. -kid friendly. Cons: -the parking lot was closed (for no apparent reason that i could tell), and there is absolutely no street parking anywhere within miles. The ranger appeared to be patrolling for parking violators. -closest parking was next to the visitor center (down a hill about a mile away). -because of this, my husband dropped me off on the side of the road and I walked in while he waited in a driveway nearby. -it's not the most impressive waterfall. But still neat.

Yesterday we had a full day of Ohio Waterfalls. We got up early and hit the road by 7:30 and didn't get home till dark. We had a list of of 7 waterfalls to try and see in 1 day. To even get to the first fall will take 3 1/2 hours and same to get home so this will be a long day and not sure we will see all on the list. We'd read all are just a short walk to see but traffic and other unforeseen issues can always change your day. Ideally we would spend the night up in that area so we could see more and not be rushed. Because of our dogs decline in health (she's paralyzed in her back legs) we are limited to how long we can go and what we can do. We didn't bring her because the falls are not stroller friendly. Most people are only limited by covid right now .. we also have our pugs issues. I had posted our list of waterfalls on a Ohio waterfall site to get some opinions of if we could do it in one trip and we learned the Blue Hen parking and the over flow was closed due to covid. Apparently the site had been to crowded and due to covid distancing concerns they closed the parking and over flow parking in attempt to stem the crowd. personally think that just means the crowd has to walk further and thus spend more time together. since longer to get there which means force to be together for longer making it worse.... am I wrong?? Someone else said the parking lot has been closed permanently due to accidents ... either way I think this is a mistake. Either way couple people on a Ohio Waterfall site suggest due to the extra time caused by the parking issue we should skip this fall. So we did initially skip it ... we did all the other falls on the list and decided to drive by and see if the parking lot was open. By this time it's getting late in the day and we are both tired. my husband offers to drop me off at the closed parking lot and then pick me up. Other wise the alternative parking would much further and would have taken too long. I took him up on it .. I headed out. the walk wasn't far but this was our 7th water fall and all of them had stairs and hills. So by this time I'm really tired. The walk back up the hill to get to the parking lot was hard. The Blue Hen fall was nice ..not deep so people were walking through it or sitting beside for pics or just to enjoy it. I was way to tire to go to that extra effort finding way down there. honestly this was not the best fall of the day but still worth seeing. This is in the spring and we'd had rain the that week so good amount of water. I'd say a mid sized fall. The sound of the water fall was very peaceful. I was too tired to try to make my way down to the water level ... and we didn't have that time. in all fairness there were several we preferred to this but still nice. Wish had time to make my way down to get yet another angle and do some hiking in the trails.

CVNP is one of the most underrated National Parks in my opinion, so it's not surprise that Blue Hen Falls is also often overlooked. It's an easy hike in terms of mileage (maybe 5-10 minutes). The trail isn't paved, and sometimes with wet leaves, it can get a bit slippery, so you'll want to have decent shoes. What's really cool though is that you can hike all the way down to the bottom of the waterfall. There's a longer route where you gradually walk down the incline and then walk back to the falls, or you can use the roots "built in steps" that they provide to the base. You don't have to be a rock climber, but you will need some agility to get to the base of the falls. It's a short drive to the visitor's center if you need to use the restroom. You can so head over to Brandywine Falls one of many other trails in the area.

Getting a closer look at the falls!

The Blue Hen Falls trail is a great hike that presents the opportunity to travel to two different waterfalls. First, the parking lot is tiny and fills quickly during the day so I recommend this hike first when travelling around CVNP. The hike to Blue Hen Falls is actually short estimating about ¼ mile from the parking lot. The trail takes you to a great view of the waterfall from above. There is a mini trail that takes you to the bottom of the creek (be careful of tree roots) where you can walk right up to the waterfall for a closer look! If you see a sign that says "trail ends" at Blue Hen Falls, I suggest ignoring that sign and continue on the trail to Buttermilk falls! The hike is less than 1/2 mile past Blue Hen Falls and is a fun and scenic hike through the forest. This trail can get a little confusing because there was some overgrowth on the trail and hiking the trail requires about 3 creek crossings. After the last creek crossing, you will reach Buttermilk falls from the top, but you can continue the trail to the bottom of Buttermilk falls as well! I highly recommend the hike to Buttermilk falls and I thought it was more impressive than Blue Hen Falls.

Decided to stop here after going to the other waterfall! It was an uphill hike. My sister and I parked close to the trail, but we did have some trouble finding parking. When we got to the Blue hen waterfall we saw how tiny it was, and it looked just like the pictures. I really do enjoy hiking, and encourage others to do so! It is a pet friendly trail/hike. I would just advise to bringing water and some comfy shoes because it is a walk. Overall, pleased with the experience!

It's currently frozen and looks super cool!

Just visited a couple of days ago and the waterfall was frozen and it was beautiful! We googled the place and google maps took us straight to the parking lot and the trail head. From there, it was a short walk to the falls. Even in 17 degree weather and being out of towners, we were able to make it to the falls without freezing. There are signs along the way clearly telling you which way to go, keeping you on the trail, even though the snow covered the ground/any tracks. Along the way there's also a picturesque bridge that takes you over the river (that leads into the falls). When I went, the river was also nearly frozen, which was pretty cool. There are a few other trails nearby, but this one seemed the easiest/fastest and had the coolest end sight as well. This is totally doable, as someone with little snow experience, even I was able to do this without freezing! I really enjoyed my experience, seeing all the trees in snow was beautiful and quite a sight.

This is one of my favorite waterfalls to visit. The view here to me seems to be the best, and there are many breathtaking views from here. You can go down level to the falls and see a steam of the water coming down. I recommend coming to this waterfall.

This is a small waterfall in Brecksville reservation. It is easily reachable and has a good amount of parking space on the other side of the road. The trek to the waterfall is short but wear footwear with a decent grip as it can get slippery at times.

This was super easy and very beautiful! We were one of two groups there ! We were able to hike down to the falls as explore the creek some. The trail is easy but not for those who are elderly, there is some up and downhill, as well as some roots and rocks to hike around. The hike to the falls themselves is very short. You can park across the street and it doesn't add much time to the hike. The trees took my breath away, so big and old. I loved it!

This quickly became my favorite little place ever. Such a short walk to absolute tranquility. If you find beauty in the small but wonderful things in life, welcome to paradise! I was able to take my 6 and 2 year old down by myself. I would do it again a thousand times.

After reading Mike P.'s review of Blue Hen Falls, I dragged the boy out there on Monday to get some exercise. After driving crazily down windy country roads, we pulled into the parking lot, ran across the street, and started down the trail. The boy commented, "This doesn't seem like a difficult trail," and my response was, "Wait until we have to come back up." It was a pleasant downhill slope to the falls, where a strategically placed bench faced the waterfall. A few young boys were actually down in the water, splashing and only nominally heeding their father's warnings to be careful and not slip. There were plenty of mosquitos out in force as we headed back up the trail, and going back up certainly was more difficult than our trek down.

It's all grass, and there are dozens of trees (and hundreds of squirrels), but aside from the children's playground in the southeast quadrant and the gazebo in the very center, there's not much variation. You can probably play a game of soccer/football/ultimate/kill the carrier in the northern part, where the trees are sparsest, but it isn't really a playing-sports park. No, Lincoln Park is more of a let's-visit-the-park kind of park. Maybe a poet's park? It's somewhere to walk and contemplate. I've done hours and hours of walking here, often in the snow, although I wish those hours had added up to at least days, if not weeks. One of my only regrets (of things under my control) from my year of living in Cleveland is that I didn't spend as much time in Tremont as I wanted to. The park really is lovely. It was way underutilized back then, but even though it was often nearly or totally empty, it didn't feel unloved. It's a proud old park in a proud old neighborhood of a proud old city. Whenever you're ready to enjoy it, it will be waiting silently for you. I really love it.

I have physically seen people talking to themselves or digging through the trashcan at this park. I really wish there was some way the park or the police perhaps could assist these people who regularly attend the park. Other than those factors, it is very nice! I also enjoy the Farmer's Market on Tuesdays during the summer!

Out in the water, there's a long rock barrier (part of the harbor breakwall system) that adds a coastal, serene feel to the entire landscape. You can sit on the grass or along the cement steps, which makes it a great spot for a picnic, sunset-watching, or just relaxing near the water. There are often events held here, so it's worth checking the schedule if you're visiting--though honestly, just showing up might surprise you with something fun. However, I have also had several opportunities to visit this city over these last thirty years and I have seen great improvements since that time. One of the small efforts to beautify this city came with the decision to add several "Cleveland" script signs at various locations around the city, like here in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. I have visited a few of the Cleveland script signs, and this one here in Tremont is my favorite so far. It is located in a beautiful little neighborhood, within an area that almost feels like a small park. Even though it's in a beautiful little neighborhood, it is close enough to the heart of the city to provide visitors with a breathtaking view of the Cleveland skyline, along with several beautifully constructed historic bridges within view. To add to how pleasant this location is, there are also railroad tracks nearby, where one can occasionally see a powerful train pass by. Still further, there is also a nicely constructed walkway through this area where folks can take a nice stroll while enjoying the view. The Cleveland script sign here in Tremont is easy to get to, located just south of the Cuyahoga River, with nearby exits from both directions of the Interstate 90 freeway. There is also a nice, clean and safe place to park within walking distance that is open daily, from 6am until 11pm. This parking area has several parking spots, most of which are under the I-90 overpass, and parking is free. If you happen to be visiting the Cleveland area, I would highly recommend that you stop by this location for a quick visit.
