Last week was my first visit to Smyrna Dental and I could not have been happier with my visit…read more From the moment I arrived the staff was friendly and the office was very clean and modern. The hygienist who took me back was wonderful and made me feel very comfortable. The Dr. herself was awesome explained to me in detail my options and there was no pressure at all on which direction to go. I am looking forward to working with this practice. Thank you, Chris

Finally a great experience at a dental office!…read more I am one of those people who avoided going to the dentist for years due to some awful past experiences. I finally had to deal with it and made an appointment at Smyrna Dental. I really couldn't be happier with my visit and I am glad I found this place. The receptionists were helpful. I wasn't even sitting in the waiting room for 5 minutes before they called me back. Suzanne cleaned my teeth and she was super nice, gentle and efficient. I was embarrassed enough at having to open my mouth after so long between cleanings but she made me feel very comfortable and didn't make me feel like an idiot for not keeping up with my dental hygiene. My first impression of Dr. Yerneni is that she is competent and cares about her patients. I like that fact that she wanted to give me time to let my gums heal and she didn't start trying to pressure me to undergo aggressive procedures. I also like the fact that they don't use metal fillings in their practice. I definitely recommend this place and am happy to be a patient here.

I went to the dentist a couple weeks ago due to pain I've had in my tooth for months. I let them…read moreknow in advance it felt like the tooth had broken. The dentist examined me, confirmed I had a small cavity and noticed a small gap (I assume meaning there's a bit of tooth missing), and instructed me to make an appointment to come back. I had, and an employee made an appointment for June 1st today, 2 PM. I wrote it in my phone immediately. When I arrived today at 1:51 PM, stating I was here for my 2:00 PM appointment, she responded in an irritated tone that my appointment was at 1:45. First of all, even if my appointment was at 1:45, I was only 6 minutes late. Industry standard gives you a 15 minute grace period. She stated that "due to the virus he's on a strict schedule, nothing we can do." Irritably, still. If that were the case, why was I not advised when I made the appointment that there is no longer a grace period? While it's important to be on time for doctors appointments, it is also important information to provide your patients. If she did not tell me 2, I am not sure why I wrote it in my phone that moment. She gave me an attitude and said she wrote it on the card. I have the receipt in my wallet but no card. While it's possible I misheard her, her immediate tone was off-putting and I responded unfortunately with that same irritation which seemed to escalate hers. I try not to let people get to me in that way but it didn't help that I was also in quite a bit of pain, with hope that it would finally be resolved after months of discomfort. Also, I have never been to a dentist or doctor of any sort, where they do not send you a reminder text for your appointment. Every dentist and doctor I have seen for the last 10 years sends reminders. The purpose is to avoid confusion and situations like this. Finally - during the last appointment, my mother had one as well (like mother like daughter I guess!). We were there simultaneously, and this individual told her they didn't take her insurance. She argued with her that no dentist ever takes HMO, they only accept DMO. D for Dental. I know this to be untrue having worked in medical offices myself. Also knowing she has used this same plan at a handful of other dentists over the years. She had to pay out of pocket even though this dentist has always taken her insurance prior. Knowing this, they still did not contact her insurance company as any other medical office would. Today she attempted to resolve this, my mother gave her additional information she received from the insurance company to help her, and she kept repeating that this information isn't what's on the card (but finally resolved the matter). Well, because it's additional, information. The card was still valid, and reflected her information accurately, and at any time they could have validated her coverage with the insurance company. When I worked in medical practices myself this was always standard practice. My mother called in as well to give the information over the phone, and the fact that nothing was resolved in a matter of 2 weeks until she came down to resolve it in person means a resolution was not attempted. I want to make it clear that this review reflects my experiences with an employee. This does not speak for the entire staff, nor does this speak for the dentist or his practice. My mother goes here and has had good experiences with the dentist himself. The reason I'm giving 2 stars, and not 1 star like I wanted to, is because as poorly as this issue was handled, I want to make it clear that this is not a reflection of the practice.

After Dr DiSabatino retired and Dr Wisk took over, this practice went downhill FAST! Tina is the…read morefront desk receptionist and scheduler. My first negative experience was when she called me to cancel all of my family's dentist appointments and needed to reschedule. When I attempted to schedule all four of us, she said she would need to check the schedule and call me back for when all 4 of us could come in. She never called back. When I called, she acted as if we never had the conversation, never apologized or anything and told me it would be a full year before they could see us, which was unreasonable and unfair. Fast forward, during that appointment, she gave me a hand written appointment card for 9am, then called to confirm for 1030. Due to the conflicting times, I called the day of my appointment to verify the time. It was suddenly 930 to my surprise, worse Tina acted as if it was my mistake. After waiting for 20 minutes, I asked how much longer, she said my appointment was actually at 945 and I would be there for an hour and a half for a cleaning! I expressed my dissatisfaction, especially since I had meetings and needed to head up to Wilmington. Even the Hygenist said there would never be a need for my appointment to be more than an hour. After my appointment, Tina scheduled me for what she called a 6mo appointment, for literally 11 months out! When I questioned her on why my six month appointment was really 11 months, she said 'we're short staffed' and that's all they had. She probably should stop calling it a 6mo appointment, particularly if the practice is unable to accommodate to providing patients with their 2x per year insurance benefit. I gave feedback to the doctor but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. He kept saying 'we're making some changes' but the changes that need to be made is with Tina's attitude and poor Customer service. When I requested my medical records to be transferred to another office, Tina said they wouldn't transfer them until the insurance had paid. That is an illegal practice and Dr. Wisk needs to revisit this policy.

I went in for a regular check-up appointment and was told I had to get a specific test done. I explained that my previous doctor had told me that I was negative for that specific test and it wouldn't be necessary to take the test. However, I was pressured into it and told I wouldn't receive care unless I took the blood test. A few months later, I received an exorbitant bill for that blood test. I was being charged for a test that I didn't want to take in the first place, knew the results before even getting the test done, and when I called to talk it over the doctor I had seen was gone from the practice. Talking to the other office staff was the opposite of helpful. I waited on the phone for hours at a time, just for them to tell me they didn't know the answers to my questions and would have someone call me back. No one ever called me back, and I had to call every day asking to speak with someone who could help me. I was finally told that a doctor I had never talked to decided that this specific test was "investigative" instead of "preventive" and such, I needed to pay for it. This was never explained to me ahead of time and I felt bullied and intimidated into taking the test and paying this charge. I contacted ChristianaCare billing to file a dispute, and nothing has happened after filing. I am being harassed about paying this bill even though I am cooperating and in constant contact to try and figure this out. The office is forcing me to pay this large bill so that they can make money off of me, instead of using insurance. They're using semantics just to make more money. This overall experience has made me never want to go back to the doctor. How do I know I'm not going to be forced into another unnecessary procedure or test that they can charge me whatever crazy amount they want? I understand now why many people don't get yearly check-ups (which are supposed to be entirely preventative and covered by insurance). Situations like this happen where unsuspecting patients are taken advantage of and harassed and bullied into paying crazy medical bills. I will never return to this practice. I hope other people see this review and can choose another doctor's office that doesn't treat their patients as horribly. If you're looking for care in this area, I would try Bayhealth instead.
