This is a small Indian restaurant and take away. The food is very well cooked, and the flavours are…read moreall there. The staff are always welcoming, and once I was shown in the kitchen area when I asked how they cooked one of the dishes. The reason for dropping 1 star is, while eating in the restaurant there is a in-flux of people picking up food from the takeaway counter.

This restaurant had the best and most interesting saag paneer I've ever had. I was so impressed by…read morehow rich and blended it was, more like a near-liquid dip than chunky paneer. It would be worth going out of your way to get this saag paneer. Everything else I tried was also highly recommended, but I was getting advice from a friend who knows my taste in food, so I can't speak to what a random menu choice would have produced. The regular rice was nearly just as good at the specially-flavored rice, so if you are putting curries on top of the rice, the plain kind seems fine. The exception to that was the lemon rice, which had a flavor that shone through the curries when mixed. Another reviewer commented on the interior being a bit down and out. Once the food came, I was blinded by the deliciousness, so it stopped mattering. Also, different chairs face in different directions, and all but facing inwards to the back of the restaurant has a view that is just fine, and the street view is excellent. That being said, it's certainly not fancy, but they put their energy into the food.

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).
