Despite the restaurant being empty, which on its own should have been a warning sign, it took the indolent and unsmiling waiters more than 20 minutes to take the order and another 30 minutes to bring the first course. That wouldn't have been so bad if it had been worth the wait but this was some of the laziest thrown together Indian food I have ever eaten and bore zero resemblance to the same dishes I ate in India. Sloppily plated, tasteless and poorly cooked without an ounce of passion. An absolute failure in every way!

I really didn't expect that. The food was good. Our 2 year old who can be picky with food gobbled up all of her lunch. Due to the name we had to order the poppadum and chutney tray to start. The gentlemen working there were so kind and one of them which may of been the owner recommended dishes for us that were similar to what we normally order where we live in Florida. Since we typically eat chicken tikka masala he recommend the Bhuna. He also added another dish just in case it was too spicy for my Mum. We enjoyed our meal but the kindness of the gentleman made it even more rememberable.

We started with the papadam with chutney assortment. There was plenty of everything in the assortment, and the papadaum was fresh and crispy. When it came time to order, everything sounded so delicious, and I was amused at how things seemed to be spelled slighlty differently than in the US. I decided on Lamb tikka masala, while Jimmy got the Chicken Korai spicy. We also got rice and naan for each of us. The food was delicious. The sauces were rich and flavorful. The meat was tender, not dry. The naan was slightly crunchy on the bottom and fluffy on top, just the way I love it. The portions were generous. We definitely could have been full from half as much food. Service was great, making sure that our water glasses were filled (perhaps they were worried about Jimmy ordering spicy food) and always checking that we had everything we needed.

Perhaps the kitchens are different for take-away as they have different shops a few doors apart and the food really doesn't seem the same. On the first trip, we were just looking for somewhere convenient to finish off a vacation in England with a traditional British curry. Asha more than met our expectations, so I found myself going back there again on my second trip. The menu provides a range of pretty standard choices, but all the ones my guests and I tried were well executed - tasty, fresh and satisfying. The staff were very pleasant. Clearly they do most of their business with takeaways - they mentioned that changes in pub-going behaviour in the area had killed off a lot of their eat-in trade. But that worked in our favour as they were extremely attentive and efficient. I give it four stars because it provides everything you want from an Indian restaurant - not exceptional, but absolutely no reservation in recommending it.

Without the slightest intent of eavesdropping, you hear the juiciest gossip about people you probably will never know. I've now been to Gifto's on three occasions, all at lunchtime, when the restaurant is not nearly as busy as it gets in the evenings. Everything I've tried has been fresh and delicious. The magaz (sheep brain) masala is the best offal dish I've had in many years. The ginger chicken and chili chicken have the perfect flavor profies. Among the breads, the roghni naan (with a very generous topping of sesame seeds) and the tawa paratha are outstanding. I could eat the tawa paratha every afternoon with my tea, and be a happy man. I've never had any issues with the service at Gifto's but I can see how it can come off as somewhat indifferent, especially for those of us visiting from the US, where service is generally oversolicitous.

The area is a little sketchy and parking is horrendous but the food definitely made up for it. My favorite was the paneer and the okra. I can't speak for the price/value, since I'm not familiar with cost in the UK, but the food tasted great and I'm still thinking about it.
