We tried to book the Occidental Hotel and they were sold out. So, they recommended Blue Gables as their "other property" and we booked there. Seriously... this place is literally like one of those $20 per night flop house motels. Seriously bad, ill equipped in amenities, tiny, old, moldy, no TV, no phone, no bath soap, short shower curtain insures big puddle in bathroom. Just overall... a total dump! Not worth $20 per night and they charge $143.00. You'd be better off staying in a Motel 6 off the interstate. I will need a shower after staying here. read more

This is exactly what you want when needing a stopover and a bite to eat- at the right price. This motel is at the end of main street and just a short walk to nearby coffee and restaurants in downtown Buffalo. It's clean and cute and even boasts a nice looking pool. It was perfect for breaking up our drive and giving us a way to explore Buffalo on foot. Really nice staff, clean cabin with good ventilation/temp control and we loved our walk to dinner and ice cream just down the street. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would!! I received a call today regarding reservations I made for Longmire Days. The gal called to let me know that the prices were incorrect and the cost would be increased from $93 to $120 (a little over). Also they required a 4 night minimum stay and that it was non-refundable if you needed to cancel. None of this was indicated on their website. So it seems pretty greedy & shady practices by the new owners & they are taking advantage of people coming in for Longmire days. Jim (previous owner) was always great to work with. He called me up when the dates were being changed but had not been announced to the public, to see if I wanted to change the dates & he took care of it with no issues. He was amazing & that's why we liked staying there but we won't be with this new owner. read more

I have been incredibly remiss in writing a timely review for Blue Gables Motel - it was definitely one of the best places I stayed on my 3 week cross-country solo motorcycle trip last fall! After being pummeled by high winds all across the state of Wyoming from Devil's Tower to Gillette to Buffalo - I was ready to give up, though I wanted to go another 50 miles farther north. As I went through the main strip of Buffalo, I saw lots of chain hotels but I had a hunch - I just kept going - the road ended, and I saw nothing to my left - to my right - I saw the sign for Blue Gables. The owner, Karen, was friendly and hospitable - she set me up with a room and her lovely assistant, Duchess the black lab, got me warmed up by engaging me for a few rounds of fetch. The cottages are super cute - a bit retro with wood paneling, the bed was okay and the bathroom was spotless. The toilet seat even had one of those paper ribbons over the top that said "sanitized for your protection"! My room had an amazing white hobnail glass ceiling lamp that was just gorgeous and reminded me of my pitcher and glasses sets at home. Folks staying in adjacent cottages were down to earth and friendly, too - they even shared beer with me! Karen hooked me up with hot water for my miso and tea, and I had a wonderful hot shower. In the morning, it was hard to want to leave - she's done such a great job with the gardening and there are beautiful flowers everywhere and many happy honeybees. I just felt like I could move in here! this is without a doubt the best place to stay in Buffalo! read more

Felt like I was in the Twilight Zone after I checked in. NO staff on site for most of the four days I was there. Office light said "open," but the door was always locked and no one was inside. No note to direct customers as to whom to call for inquiries or emergencies. Coffee shop very randomly staffed (one morning only while I was there) and completely closed over the weekend. Trash bins overflowing. The cabin was cute and comfortable, but I didn't feel safe with no staff on the premises most of the time. Felt really abandoned. read more

Not your average motel stay! By not your average, I mean you cannot and will not find hospitable, friendly, helpful hosts like this anywhere. I feel as though I came as a guest and left as a friend. I was amazed by the accommodations which are so appropriate for the region of the country and truly help you to feel like you are living in the setting you came to this place to experience. For solo travelers to families, this place has you covered and is not far from Historic downtown, chain restaurants for ease and familiarity, or the Bighorn Mountains. I came here on my motorcycle and the hosts are very friendly in accommodating bike traffic, I will be back next time I'm in the area. read more

This is a lovely and charming little old-school motel. It's in a great location, appears to be very clean and tidy and looks to be very well-maintained. I'm not sure about the inside of the cabins because I didn't actually get to stay here. I had booked a 1 night stay, but wasn't able to check in. Things happen and the folks that run the motel have been nothing but kind, but, a few things to be aware of. This is not a chain hotel and they do not have a 24 hour desk. The office hours are posted on the website and the website also clearly states that if you will arrive outside those hours, you must call ahead of time and let them know. Also, even during office hours, there will not always be someone in the office. When I arrived about 15 minutes before the office was closing, there was a note on the door telling me to call a number if I needed something. This was a good idea, however, not everyone gets decent cell service in Buffalo, WY. So, because I couldn't get a signal, and no one was in the office, I wasn't able to check in and had to find another hotel for the night. I was disappointed we didn't get to stay here, but they also didn't charge me for it and I think that's very kind of them. I would definitely recommend trying the place out, and I would love to book it again and actually stay, just be mindful that this is a Mom and Pop shop. read more

This place is just fine for a single night's stay. Road weary travelers can appreciate the "mom and pop" selling point of this establishment. The pool and the outdoor area were wonderful; we sat by the small fire at night and are our dinner. The owners were extremely friendly! The downside is that some portions of this stay were homemade, and that didn't quite work. The curtains were hand-seen (adorable) but only one window had actual blinds underneath. The air conditioner kept blowing the curtains open all night. Second, the website advertises "modern bathrooms." Sadly, that meant linoleum nailed to the wall with large gaps in-between. We watched a few spiders crawl in and out and decided to forgo using the bathroom. read more

This place is absolutely adorable! I was on my Great American Road-Trip and hadn't booked any hotel rooms in advance. So when I hit town I started driving around looking for a place to stay. Something about this place just drew me in, and I'm glad I decided to go in! Karen and Jim are two of the sweetest people I have ever met, very friendly and chatty. The cabins are a little older as are the things in the rooms like the TVs, also there are no phones in the cabins. However they are immaculately clean and even though they're older they're very well kept up. The bed was one of the more comfortable ones I slept in on my entire trip as well. The pool was also nice, about the perfect temp for swimming which rarely seems to happen. There was even a grill and such outside for anyone who wanted to cook on it. I didn't use it, but it was a neat touch. There was also homemade muffins in the morning, as well as a drive-through espresso stand that has a lot of coffee/tea/fruit smoothie options. These cabins would be a great place for a retro honeymoon! In fact, it has the very look of a late 40s early 50s era honeymoon cabin. The proprietors are friendly and live on the grounds. Karen has lots of beautifully placed and cared-for flowers that humming birds and humming bird moths were enjoying. It was quiet and cozy. I've discovered that when in Wyoming it's best to stick to chain hotels. (Local Wyoming food, lodging, and fuel establishments often lag behind those of other states in such areas as cleanliness, insect pests, etc., and until fairly recently, men's public bathrooms often had no soap.) But Buffalo is a better town than most in Wyoming, and we've stayed at the Blue Gables before and it was okay. But not this time. Our cabin contained two mattresses that were so soft and lumpy they were almost unusable. Neither my wife nor I got much sleep, and at about 4 am we finally stopped trying and just got up. The curtains were not wide enough for the windows, so privacy was compromised. Two tiny bars of soap were provided, but no tissues and no shampoo. The toilet paper was of that kind that if it is dry it scratches you when you are using it---and if you dampen it, it dissolves in your hand (yuck!). The air conditioner was far too noisy for sleep. Fortunately, nights are cool in that part of Wyoming. Perhaps the worse condition was positively dangerous: The TV (a small, old CRT type) projected on a metal rack over the path I needed to walk to get to my side of the bed. It was in just the position to give you a very nasty bump or cut on the head. I managed to stoop below it several times but when I got up in the middle of the night it really nailed me. If I had not been moving very slowly, I could have been seriously injured. I had enjoyed stays in previous years---and you'll notice that many of the positive reviews of the Blue Gables are several years old. But as of 2020 it is clear that the owners or managers have not done the necessary upkeep. And some features---such as the dangerous positioning of the TV---never should have been there in the first place. read more

What a wonderful little family run business in Buffalo, WY. On the main strip on the way to downtown Buffalo. This is what comes to mind when I think of old Americana road trip motels. Each "room" is a mini cabin with all the amenities and decorated with a theme that is all antlers and outdoors. The cabins themselves are quite old but are in great shape and you can tell the owners really take care of the place and put love into it. The woman at the desk was also very sweet. You know you aren't in the big city anymore when she suggests to grab towels and sheets out of the hotel's laundry as if she has no reason not to trust you. Not to mention I love that she has a bird in the lobby area and a big huge stuffed buffalo head who also has a name that I do not recall. Unfortunately when we arrived, it was too cold and overcast to use the pool, fire pit, or BBQ, but I liked that they were there. Additionally, the rates are very affordable, and they offer complimentary breakfast (coffee and muffins when we were there), and they have a drive-through espresso stand as well. Great place to stop for the night and continue on your journey. read more

Upon arrival we were greeted by the sweetest, lovliest lady named Karen. She made us feel so welcome and showed us around her beautiful little quaint motel. The cabins are darling. The decor is perfect. We were so happy with our cabin. There was a cute fire pit area and a very nice pool, also a very cute community breakfast room. We fell in love with this place immediately. Found ourselves in Buffalo, WY passing through from Chicago to Seattle and needed a place to stay. We could not have been happier with Blue Gables. The owners were so welcoming. The cabins are clean, private and well priced. The grounds are extremely well maintained and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Picnic tables and a place to grill along with a fire pit and pool. We also got recommendations for a bluegrass open mic that night in town which was incredible and super fun. Everything about this place is great and we are so happy we stopped! read more

Stayed here on my cross county trip from Boston to Portland. On our way into Wyoming we started looking up motels and hit upon this one. We called and were able to make a reservation a few hours prior. Jim and Karen were great--made everything easy from check-out to check-in. Our cabin was rustic and perfect. My friend and I were also on a Great American Road trip and we were driving from Yellowstone in a thunderstorm before we found cute little cabins all lined up like in the pixar movie Cars. Quaint little comfortable cabins with all your need: showers, microwave, internet and warm sheets (and extra sheets on the shelves too). This is a true mom and pop establishment and I'm glad we supported them versus the hotels down the road. Karen is wonderful and welcoming even when we rolled into town and came knocking at 1am searching for a warm place to escape the storm. If we weren't in a rush, I would have loved to stay and visit this town. The Blue Gables Motel does a great job of making people feel welcome. If I ever go through the area again, I'll definitely give myself a couple days to learn more about this part of the country. read more

Cabins are rustic but very clean, the pool area is a great place to relax after a long day of riding or driving. Very quiet at night and just a couple of blocks from historic downtown.
