I have been incredibly remiss in writing a timely review for Blue Gables Motel - it was definitely one of the best places I stayed on my 3 week cross-country solo motorcycle trip last fall! After being pummeled by high winds all across the state of Wyoming from Devil's Tower to Gillette to Buffalo - I was ready to give up, though I wanted to go another 50 miles farther north. As I went through the main strip of Buffalo, I saw lots of chain hotels but I had a hunch - I just kept going - the road ended, and I saw nothing to my left - to my right - I saw the sign for Blue Gables. The owner, Karen, was friendly and hospitable - she set me up with a room and her lovely assistant, Duchess the black lab, got me warmed up by engaging me for a few rounds of fetch. The cottages are super cute - a bit retro with wood paneling, the bed was okay and the bathroom was spotless. The toilet seat even had one of those paper ribbons over the top that said "sanitized for your protection"! My room had an amazing white hobnail glass ceiling lamp that was just gorgeous and reminded me of my pitcher and glasses sets at home. Folks staying in adjacent cottages were down to earth and friendly, too - they even shared beer with me! Karen hooked me up with hot water for my miso and tea, and I had a wonderful hot shower. In the morning, it was hard to want to leave - she's done such a great job with the gardening and there are beautiful flowers everywhere and many happy honeybees. I just felt like I could move in here! this is without a doubt the best place to stay in Buffalo!

Best motel I have ever had the pleasure of staying at! Extremely friendly owner, adorable log cabins, and delicious coffee in the morning. A must stay! Even has a resident bunny on property.

This place is just fine for a single night's stay. Road weary travelers can appreciate the "mom and pop" selling point of this establishment. The pool and the outdoor area were wonderful; we sat by the small fire at night and are our dinner. The owners were extremely friendly! The downside is that some portions of this stay were homemade, and that didn't quite work. The curtains were hand-seen (adorable) but only one window had actual blinds underneath. The air conditioner kept blowing the curtains open all night. Second, the website advertises "modern bathrooms." Sadly, that meant linoleum nailed to the wall with large gaps in-between. We watched a few spiders crawl in and out and decided to forgo using the bathroom.

This place is absolutely adorable! I was on my Great American Road-Trip and hadn't booked any hotel rooms in advance. So when I hit town I started driving around looking for a place to stay. Something about this place just drew me in, and I'm glad I decided to go in! Karen and Jim are two of the sweetest people I have ever met, very friendly and chatty. The cabins are a little older as are the things in the rooms like the TVs, also there are no phones in the cabins. However they are immaculately clean and even though they're older they're very well kept up. The bed was one of the more comfortable ones I slept in on my entire trip as well. The pool was also nice, about the perfect temp for swimming which rarely seems to happen. There was even a grill and such outside for anyone who wanted to cook on it. I didn't use it, but it was a neat touch. There was also homemade muffins in the morning, as well as a drive-through espresso stand that has a lot of coffee/tea/fruit smoothie options. This place is just so awesomely '1950s Americana Road-Trip' - well worth stopping off at!

This is a great clean, no smoking place, and you can back right up to your door. Hot showers, ac, heater, and beds. What else do you need?

Clean, reasonably priced, swimming pool for my kids, friendly staff, and my kids loved the log cabins! Had a fridge and microwave.

Karen has lots of beautifully placed and cared-for flowers that humming birds and humming bird moths were enjoying.

It is as bad as the reviews say. I don't know why so many people care about the pool, but you do…read moreyou. I found a deal rate for the same night and booked while on the road without reading the reviews. Good things: - excellent parking lighting. Can park right outside my room to keep an eye on the car. - lots of shelves in the prefab shower. - The shower is actually pretty okay. - The bed is actually comfortable. That's all. I assume they keep this place as shitty and gross as they can get away with because the clientele is a one and done base; people will always come to Yellowstone and they will always stay here because it's dirt cheap, so the owner and staff don't have to worry about pleasing anyone because they never have to think about a repeat customer. The front door is more like an old gas station door than a hotel entrance. It's two glass doors, almost completely blacked out with window tint. It doesn't look like you've come to the Quality Inn, it looks like you've come to the strip club... but a really seedy one on the wrong street. It's in the same building as a bar and a Mexican restaurant. The covered parking for check in is an afterthought and barely had space for my Tacoma. The inside did not get better. I work in oil and gas and have stayed in some run down hotels as well as small town motels and hostels throughout the west and the world. I don't have much of an ick factor but this one has me on high alert tonight - I brought in my knife to put on my bedside table and put a chair against the door. I have only ever done that once. The exterior doors (again, think gas station entry door) were propped open with a rock into the night. My room has no chain because someone has busted it out and the hotel didn't replace it (but they patched the hole as though it didn't need to be there). The key card door machinery is obviously recent and the doors do not secure well. The latch on mine is loose in the receiving hole. One room's door even has a gap at the top where the door doesn't fill the frame, it's been cut for some reason (this is a fire hazard for that room and may be out of code). There's no sound insulation in the building. There are motorcycles in the parking lot that someone decided to start up at 10pm and they're sitting there doing the Harley bathtub drain thunking which echoes in the windows. There are also semis in the parking lot and inevitably we'll hear that too, though I am very grateful to be on the non-interstate side of the building. There are two "security cameras" in the hallway that are plugged in just underneath, so nefarious actors could easily unplug or just destroy them. I seriously doubt they are real; there are cables hanging down that have nothing connected to them. Cute, I guess. I very seriously doubt the housekeeping here. My towels were heaped in a (folded) pile on the shelf and two had dirty smudges on them. I had 4 lotions, 2 conditioner, no shampoo and no soap. Again, I did something else I never do - checked for bed bugs. The mattress is dark tan which means very poor opportunity to find them. I wore my flip flops the entire time I wasn't in bed. I'm a crunchy girlie who skirts in a floorless tent and usually do yoga in hotels; definitely not here. The chairs are both upholstered and old and nasty. I wish I'd brought my own pillow. I might burn my sleep clothes (not actually but I'll not put them anywhere that will give me a bed bug headache). So.... Stay at your own risk. That is all.

The shower had hairs in it, the wall by the toilet wasn't very clean and there was a dirty towel on…read moretop of the shelf of the closet. The room itself was spacious but we just wish it was cleaner. There also wasn't a very great selection for breakfast in the morning and there was no staff in the lobby/breakfast area.
