I don't know the name of the person I spoke with, but trust me--they know exactly who they are. And if that person is a manager, their boss needs to seriously rethink their role, because whoever this was should never be allowed anywhere near a phone or a customer again. I called for one simple thing: an update. The technician told me a part might fix my issue, so I asked whether it had been ordered, when it might arrive, and if we could plan an appointment. Before I could even finish explaining that I'd be out of town from the 17th to the 26th, this person cut me off, gave me zero information, acted like my questions were an inconvenience, and then hung up on me. Not a misunderstanding. Not a dropped call. They hung up mid-sentence. That's the level of disregard this company has for paying customers. I immediately contacted my home warranty provider and told them to cancel the already-approved claim and open a brand-new one with a different contractor. Yes, I knowingly took on another $100 service fee just to make sure Northwoods Mechanical never comes near my home again. That's how bad this experience was. I would gladly pay more to avoid dealing with them. To the person who answered that phone: shame on you. You were rude, dismissive, unprofessional, and completely unfit for customer service. You should not be representing any business, let alone one that's supposed to be helping people in their homes. Avoid this company at all costs. I will never use them again, and I strongly advise anyone reading this to do the same.

The young man who came out was nice enough, but somehow Select Home Warrantee rejected the claim. It appears that Select operates in a way to basically find reasons not to pay. Northwoods Mechanical on the next day sent me a quote of $1458.36 to replace the thermostat. A ridiculous price. The Better Business Bureau rates this company a D+. I cancelled my arrangement with Select. Beware of home warrantee companies. (This is consistent with what a representative from Northwood Mechanical told me over the phone.) If I believed in conspiracies, my experience would be the poster child for such.
