They are a rarity among tradespeople these days, both in their reliability and in the quality of their work. Their charges are not unreasonable, and are never a surprise. They bill time by the hour, and always work quickly. This year, we hired Ellis to replace the drain in our 80 - 90 year old basement utility sink, which they did to a high standard. For the first time, we now actually have a clean-out in the line, which is very important. Also, we had them replace our 20 year old hot water heater, which, while still working, was doing so on "borrowed time." The new unit was quickly installed even though I had them switch the gas exhaust from an old, oversized chimney to a direct through-the-wall exhaust. They acquired the permit from the Township, and the inspector told me that the job was perfect in terms of code compliance. We are fortunate to have had Albert Ellis here in Moorestown for more than a century, and even more fortunate that the current generation continues to pride itself on its competence, integrity, and professionalism.

Water was entering my basement walls..it was a mess. He came as soon as he could. Cut into the wall and fixed the pipe. Explained that there was a pipe behind the wall for a washer/dryer--the previous owner never documented this or explained it to me (it's a very strange, rear-of-the-house mudroom that was an add-on.) For the second visit, I had a sewage back up. He came and diagnosed it, and fixed it by cleaning up the sewer line under the street. Apparently, my home piping is pretty sturdy and modern, but the pipes under the street are old and thin. So I have to be careful what gets flushed down my toilet. Yet another thing the prior owner didn't inform me of, and I had to learn at a cost to paying Ray from Streamline to fix. At least he was reasonable! I will definitely hire him again. In fact, I'm planning to contact him this weekend about a new water heater.

During that time he or an employee have been to the house three times. Each time, between the time I called and when they showed up, things would start working properly again. So they would try to diagnose the issue based on my description and do what seemed to be appropriate, and things would be fine for a while but eventually the problem would recur. So yesterday he showed up with an expensive piece of equipment to properly diagnose the issue, and having done so, brought in another expensive piece of equipment to fix the problem. He was there for over two hours, and along the way, he mentioned what he normally charges for use of that equipment because of what it cost him. I was OK with it; I was just happy to have the problem finally fixed. But when he was done, he said that he wasn't happy about the past "misdiagnoses" and I shouldn't have to pay for them, and he ended up charging me about a third of what I was expecting. When I offered to meet him halfway, he said, "Sorry, I've already entered it into the system, nothing I can do." I can't promise that you'll get price breaks like I got on this occasion, but I can promise that you won't get ripped off, and that you'll get excellent service.
