It fills me with patriotic pride watching the aerial marvel of the Blue Angels. The roar of engines and screaming velocity as they streak across the skyline, out to the Pacific, over the Marin headlands and past the Golden Gate. You must have nerves of steel to fly those jets and have over-abundant confidence to fly in tight formation. It fills me with awe. I haven't seen any recent photos of the Blue Angels flying low through the canyons of downtown. They'd do it on Sunday and the photographic spectacle was jaw-dropping. I LOVE being here for Fleet Week. Sometimes I just don't feel like the crowds at Chrissy, although crowds can be fun, so I walk up to Alta Park. I wish I had gotten a pic of the Angel flying so low, directly over my head. Talk about fast. Wow wow wow. And in some of their formations they are so incredibly close. So honestly what is not to like here. The Blue Angels are the United States Navies premiere flight demonstration team. Flying F/A-18E Hornet aircraft they perform at a variety of airshows and events. The Blue Angels go back to 1946 and have cycled through a variety of aircraft to the present day Super Hornets. Even the C-130 aka Fat Albert has been upgraded. I've watched the Blue Angels from different vantage points, and it's always a good show... but crazy busy in the city. This is the only part of Fleet Week that I partake in as I think it's unique entertainment and free, so you can't beat the value! But like I said the city gets super crowded, and you have to be strategic about where you watch. You can pay an arm and a leg to get a seat in the marina... but why pay so much when you can watch for free?!? Pre-COVID, I've watched from Aquatic Park, in the grassy area across from Ghirardelli Square, and not only are you sitting on top of your neighbors, but if you drive there, you may be sitting in the same spot in traffic for like 30-40 minutes before you get to the next block... and that's a lot of blocks, then pricey parking since it's near the touristy area of the city. There's just so much going on in the city, like parades, Giants games, etc. This past weekend, I watched from Crissy Field East Beach and had a much more comfortable experience. It was still crowded as hell by afternoon, but I came early in the morning and secured a great spot to picnic along the water. I didn't hit traffic coming there, I was able to get free parking, and a great view of the event with sunny clear blue skies. The Blue Angels are amazing, they are so skilled with their craft and always wow the crowds. But after a while it can get somewhat repetitive (for adults at least), especially if you've seen the air show many times... but I'm not complaining, I come back for a reason. This year was their 75th anniversary where they were sporting new larger aircraft, F-18 Super Hornets, easier for crowds to enjoy. And these machines were so fast, so loud as they flew directly over you, and so thrilling! To note the difference between viewing locations... in terms of comfort level and more spacing, Crissy Field East Beach was better.. plus can't beat the views being so close to the Golden Gate Bridge. But comparing it to Aquatic Park, I felt like the center of the Blue Angels' tricks and stunts, ie. when they play chicken w/ their aircraft, had a better angle from Aquatic Park.. plus at Aquatic Park you're surrounded by businesses and eateries, so it's so convenient and more lively. But then again, just the thought of the traffic makes it almost not worth it (can't speak for public transportation). read more

Blue Angels San Francisco Watching Blue Angels on Magic Cloud corp boat Fri 10/8/21 I was presented with great opportunity to combine business and pleasure the other weekend. Blue Angels are always a captivating show, they fly in the city on a weekend concluding the Fleet Week, year after year in early October. Two shows on Friday October 8 and Saturday October 9, from 3-4 PM. This week is chosen for the best weather in San Francisco out of the entire year. For as long as I can remember, it's bright, sunny, and clear. Amazingly beautiful and relatively warm, not too windy nor chilly to the bones LOL. This year San Francisco is the only city to host Blue Angels due to our low rate of infections and high rate of vaccinations. None of the other usual locations were able to have this year's event. As I'm looking for potential partnerships and acquisitions to leverage my company's offerings and bring in the revenues. Engaged a consulting firm to facilitate this process and was invited to the private viewing event at a casual open house on a boat belonging to the consultancy. Dropped by the Magic Cloud, located at the St Francis Yacht Club. Enjoyed the front row seats to the Blue Angels with drinks and light snacks. Amazing vantage point from the San Francisco Yacht Basin! I usually would watch them from somewhere along Embarcadero, in the years past. There always would've been some tech conference, expo, trade show, hosting its happy hour or the entire conference somewhere on the pier. Understandably, not this year, due to Covid pandemic. So this year, I'm on a boat, that's cool! U.S. Navy Blue Angels! They were amazing and amazingly fast and loud. The way they fly in between the skyscrapers, wow. You'd be swept away by the show. They fly in formation maneuvering in the narrow corridors between the scrapers like a ski racer cutting the air through. I would catch more photos, but they are too fast! Yes, Blue Angels, the squadron spends January through March training at Naval Air Facility El Centro, California. Been watching them in SF for years, in October, and never tire of electrifying show. If you're in San Francisco and you enjoy airshows, this is THE airshow to see! This annual event takes place every year in early/mid-October​ and it's free too. In addition to the main air show put on by the Blue Angels, there are also lots of other festivities. This year, events took place from Friday through Monday (Columbus Day Holiday). There's a Parade of Ships that can be viewed from Crissy Field, or an even better view for photo ops would be from the Golden Gate Bridge. I've actually never seen the Parade of Ships, but I've heard it's truly a fantastic spectacle on a clear day. There are tours of ships you can take. The Red and White Fleet also runs special cruises ​for the Blue Angels airshow. I've also heard that there are quite a few private yachts you can charter that will also give you a view from the water. Lastly, don't miss the hoopla that takes place on the Marina Green, where you'll find food and merch stalls. This has been an October tradition in San Francisco, and for me personally, marks the beginning of Fall. read more

We are very lucky to live where the Blue Angels have their annual winter training at NAF El Centro, California. practice for Air Shows. They start flights in January and fly more complicated patterns as it gets closer to snow time. We see the Blue Angels fly over every day. While some may find the noise loud, I find it's my signal to go outside to watch them fly over. The dark blue and yellow F-18 Hornet planes are striking against a cloudless blue sky. The skill of the pilots is breathtaking as they perform precision flying feats with wingtips seeming to almost touch. If you are driving through the El Centro area, look up as you may see these planes practicing. There is an Air Show at the NAF facility Saturday, March 16, 2019. Gates open at 9 am. There is some walking from the parking lot to the field. Bring chairs and umbrellas as it rained last year! read more

Before you can see them zoom through the air, you hear the roar of the fearless Blue Angels booming through the city. Best seat in town is any rooftop with a view of the Marina Green and Bay. As they flew past me, I felt very excited to be able to see the Blue Angels in action. The weather was incredible, blue skies for the blue angels. Watch them do their routines; the Fat Albert, Diamond Take Off, Opposing Knife Edge Pass, Delta Formation, Barrel rolls and Tuck under rolls. When they fly in formation, their wings touch and you have to realize that these guys know what they are doing and timing is everything. I watched the whole thing from the roof deck of an apartment building off Chestnut. As I stood there watching them zoom overhead, I felt so fortunate to be right in the middle of the show. I tried to take pictures, but those guys were so fast... I got more pictures of blue skies than Blue Angels. read more

Date: 10/9/2016 Time: 2:15 PM 71° Sunny This is my first time actually being in San Francisco for Fleet Week to watch the Blue Angels. My husband and I caught the ferry from Alameda to San Francisco for this event. Our perch site was the upper platform of the Sausalito Ferry Terminal. We chose this site for viewing, figuring Pier 41 and the Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 would be very crowded. We even sat in the shade and we were comfortable...very comfortable. Sitting and/or standing, we were able to catch some of the spectacular maneuvers of the Blue Angels, roaring by at a very rapid pace. It was an awesome sight and there were plenty of oohs and aahs from the spectators around us. Sometimes I lost track of them in the bright sunlight. However, I still enjoyed and appreciated what I have seen - the precision of these jet pilots performing the amazing feats on a beautiful day. We will return to the same site with our folding chairs to watch the Blue Angels next year, which is the upper platform of the Sausalito Ferry Terminal. The view there is great, and it is also convenient for us to be close to the ferry terminal to take us back to Alameda/Oakland. read more

Even the weekdays before the show, you can see them practicing all week long. A lot of people had gathered to watch the show from different spots. We climbed a bit high up to be able to catch the blue angels dancing around the Alcatraz. Got some good shots too. The BEST spot in the Bay for you to watch The Blue Angels to see just how good these guys are is at the Golden Gate Bridge. What I wouldn't give to be a passenger in one of these. They are parked outside one of my company's buildings at the airport. Yes, it costs millions to fuel, produce, etc, but the local economy more than benefits. They use the Lone Mountain campus at USF as a guide to know where to turn around. That led to many interesting moments during school. Just wish I could go see them this year, but my mom just HAD to be born on October 9, and my niece also just HAD to be born on October 5. After living in both Seattle for "Sea Fair" and San Francisco for "Fleet Week" i feel so lucky to have been able to witness the blue angels twice in one year. Firstly, I wish money was spent on health instead of weapons but since I'm a tech guy I have to be amazing at the technology employed for this air show. Give the pilots credit; they do an amazing job and I can't understand how anyone cannot be impressed by them. I think it's nice that the Blue Angels come around to different ports every year and conduct fleet week to show what discipline and training our Naval and military service in general has to offer. After all, we pay for it and we see very little of it in glory except for events like fleet week as the rest of the time all we hear of are wars in other countries and how many people have been injured or killed. I enjoy the shows that the Blue Angels put on and I think that they do some incredible things with their planes which show their skills and training. I think just by judging how they fly, the uniformity and closeness as well as the tricks that they do, I don't think anyone here can say they can do it better than the Blue Angels so I don't see any reason to rate them poorly. However, if you dislike noise, then you would definitely be quite annoyed when the Angels come to your city because for a week it will be much nosier than usual, all around town. Blue Angels make car alarms go off, birds act crazy, & kids flock to windows during class. The Blue Angels can actually stop me from doing anything, so I can look to the sky. Have you seen so many people look at the sky all at once??? I searched through yelp talk to find a GOOD place to watch The Blue Angels. I didn't want to go ALL THE WAY to Fisherman's Wharf to see these, I would have to take the bus all the way there and back. I can see them pretty much anywhere, but I wanted the best seat in the house without paying for seats near the Pier. I opted to go to Crissy Fields, since that area is NICE and there is parking. PARKING TOOK FOREVER TO FIND. I live in the Sunset and it took 1.5hours to get home, we eventually found a short cut near the Presidio. If we didn't find that shortcut near the residential area, we would still be there now. Fog sure did its job today. The fog was too thick for the Blue Angels to fly =[ They were only able to fly twice. I was waiting there forever wondering why they didn't come again, since it's not suppose to end until 4PM, it was only 3:20? I just sat in the windy ass cold weather by the Hyde Street Pier today to see the Blue Angels pass by 3 times and that was it! The Blue Angels portion of the air show was to start at 3:00 and last til 4:00. Unfortunately, economic times are rough and there were very few sponsors, so this show was drastically cut back. The freakin fog caused the Blue Angels to be in the air for only 6 minutes! In addition, sitting near a couple of smokers made it even worst! Overall, the show was nice, but the weather and scale of the show was a MAJOR disappointment THIS year. Last years show was 100X better. I saw the Blue Angels once from Crissy Field before, and I was impressed. However, if you want to enjoy the full and TRUE experience of seeing Blue Angels in SF, you got to watch it from SF Maritime National Park. The stone bench seats were perfect spots! the Blue Angels flied just in front and above you! The 6 blue angels formation were the BEST!!! Invest in a long lenses camera if you want great pictures. It's loud and scary and I cringe inadvertantly and I worry about the pilots making a misjudgment and hurting themselves and us (and smashing through my window). OK, I gotta admit where I'm coming from on this review. I grew up in Oshkosh, WI, which for those who don't know is the home of EAA Oshkosh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oshkosh_Airshow), the largest airshow in the US and quite probably the world. It's a celebration of flight in all its forms, everything from cessnas, to homebuilts, to stunt pilots, to the largest gathering of WW2 aircraft anywhere, to the most modern military jets. Going to watch these planes do their thing every year as a kid was totally inspiring, and a large part of why I ended up becoming an engineer. So that said, I love the Blue Angels. Sure, they're military, and they're expensive, and they pollute, and they're loud. But (excepting the military part) so are fireworks. And fireworks are awesome. Similarly, astoundingly high performance jets doing amazingly complex aerobatics at wickedly high speeds are also awesome. Not only in the "we as humans are able to create things which are capable of this" way, but also in the "the people who fly these are unbelievably skilled" sort of way. Plus, the kid in me totally loves it when he sees a jet streak silently past, and then a few seconds later hears the huge-ass roar. So cool. And for those of you complaining about the "environmental waste", lets do a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation. There are only 6 of them. Each plane carries about 10,000lb of fuel. For comparison, a 747 uses about 100,000lb of fuel on a 5-hour flight. So worst case, if they managed to use their entire fuel supply each time, each air show or practice is the rough equivalent of one 747 flying from SF to New York. Compared to the number of commercial jets flying around the globe in any given moment, that's reasonably insignificant. And it's a hell of a lot less particulate pollution than your average fireworks show. Just some food for thought. read more
