I scheduled an appt with one the artists here. I wanted to get my brows done, micro/powder combo is what I had requested. I was so excited! I'm in healthcare and I could not wait to have 1 less thing to during my daily routine of getting ready. I scheduled quite a few weeks in advance, I wanted to give myself plenty of time to prepare and make sure it was during a break in my work schedule. I also travel for work so coordinating that was a mess in itself. I arrived for my appointment. I did all the necessary COVID screenings, provided all my information, signed all my consent forms. I was asked to have a seat while the person at their front desk looked over everything. To my surprise, I was turned away as a client. I was told due to my medical history and having RA, as one of my many autoimmune disorders, would not allow me to be a client with them without a doctors note. When asked why? I was told it was a liability issue and because having RA, I'm prone to prolonged healing time which in turn would leave me more susceptible to infection that I would need a medical clearance in the form of a note to be able to follow through with any future appointments. I was obviously very surprised by this. Not only am I pretty well tattooed with a full sleeve, various tattoos on my other arm and large pieces done on my side but I had just completed my first session of getting my eyeliner tattooed on at another studio in Portland. Never having a single issue regarding any of this. But today was somehow different? I'm a licensed medical provider, I am no stranger to my diagnosis & considering having been pierced or tattooed many times throughout my life, I was pretty shocked by this. I explained to the gentlemen at the counter all of these things and still was denied any services until I could provide medical clearance in the form of a doctors note. Somehow a piece of paper was going to make all the difference in the world. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that everyone has policies and procedures, consent forms and releases but I'm obviously standing there with quality artwork from highly sought after artists and being told no by this facility? I'm not impressed. So to all my RA friends and friends that suffer from or are being treated for autoimmune issues, don't bother making an appointment here. At least not without being turned away the day of your appointment if you do not have a doctors not in hand to clear you for their services. Some advice to this business owner, maybe send your consent forms, which are so clearly useless, out to your clients a few days to a week PRIOR to one's appointment? That way you're still able to see your clients because they're able to prepare? OR, dig a little deeper and maybe discuss how their previous artwork went? Just a thought. read more
