The trails are windy and it feels so much bigger than it is because of this. A lot of great parking (free) and easy to access from the road. It's still very quiet and peaceful. The perfect spot for #WalkingForExercise. There is even water access for paddle boarding and kayaks.

The oak trees provide plenty of shade, though not over the playground, which have shade tops, but not totally covered. One pavilion, plenty of benches. The kids loved the playground! In the lot where there's the boat launch, you have to pay. The parking is free everywhere else. There's a 2 mile walking/biking trail with some beautiful views. The trail is very heavily forested and can be a little humid because there aren't too many breezes along the way. We did the one mile loop and had a great time. The park was immaculate. We were there on a weekday and the park was pretty crowded. So, I would imagine that it can get really crowded on the weekends. Be sure to check out the big swing along the trail. It was great!

Our wonderful Airbnb recommended a visit to this nearby nature preserve (walking distance from where we stayed...) and it was a GREAT for a mid-morning stroll (should have gone at sunrise, but VACATION!!) The park looks small-ish from the main road, but venture in and check out the beautiful boardwalk that will have you "up close and personal" with the mangroves, lots of informative signs about the "residents" of this preserve, and if you're luckier than we were, apparently lots of birds and other creatures. The trail is not incredibly well-marked, but it's short enough that even a wrong turn or two won't leave you hopelessly lost. Clean, scenic, COOL in the shade, and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!! Enjoy!!

We've been trying out some different biking trails around the Orlando area. We've now visited the…read moreSeminole Wekiva Trail twice. We like it because it's more scenic than some other paved trails. It's also quite long, so you can choose how far you want to go. The first time we kept going alongside I-4 in Lake Mary, but the second time, we turned and went over I-4 (yes, OVER) and then continued down the trail that way before heading back. Coming from Winter Garden, the San Sebastian Trailhead is the closest jumping on point, and it's also near the beginning of the Trail. The trail does extend a couple of miles further across 436 and down by the Costco, but it seems too busy and trafficky that way. My GPS didn't take me to the correct spot for the trailhead, though, so be careful of that. The road to the trailhead is next to the left of the Rooms-to-Go parking lot with only a tiny sign indicating it. If you turn into a neighborhood (like my GPS suggested), you can't get to the trailhead from there. I love to see the art work painted on the backs of wooden fences as I bike down the trail. Someone has done of excellent job of making boring fences look exciting. There's also a decent amount of shade throughout the trail, and I love how they've built two tunnels under major intersections for bikes to safely cross.

Trains trees and…read more tortoises The Seminole Wekiva Trail is a multi purpose trail that was converted from the old Orange Belt Railway. The rail was built waaaaaay back in 1888 and at one time was the longest narrow gauge railway in the world. The trains are long gone and rail service was discontinued in the early part of the 20th century and the path laid dormant until some progressive minds decided to put it to good use. The whole length is about 14 miles long so with a 28 mile round trip the journey can give you a decent workout on a bike. One thing that became very apparent is the absence of hills. The whole stretch is very flat and straight which means it's a very easy ride and a great place to hit the afterburners and really move in the areas where the traffic is light. The bike trials in New England have far more hills and turns. The whole area is paved and the surface is in absolutely great condition. Hardly any made bumps or nasty holes to make you fall off your bike and smash your face. Again, I'm use to the paths in the north where the frost heaves and buckles the pavement every winter. This was such a pleasant and smooth ride and the miles just seemed to fly by and the ride over far too quickly. The path goes through some populated areas and crossing the streets can be a pain but it also means that you pass some places to get food and treats. There are even some water fountains and bathrooms on the path and lots of benches and cool spots to take a break or look around. Very convenient and all the folks that we met on the path were friendly and extremely nice. I didn't notice any areas that made me fear for my life. The scenery in many parts was beautiful with funny looking trees and plants, small lakes and many types of birds. We even saw a big tortoise crossing the path in one point. Someone we talked to along the way warned us about gators occasionally crossing the trails but unfortunately we didn't see any of these. I've heard that eventually they plan on expanding the path and connecting it to other trails to make it much longer. That would be great but like the rail trails here in the north east, such plans usually take a lot of time and money. At 14 miles the Seminole Wekiva Trail is still one very pleasant and enjoyable ride.

Turtles turtles turtles!! I've yet to see the ninja turtles here , but they sure have a bunch of…read moreother ones. This is one of my favorite quick stops in the clearwater beach area. If you have young kids , I highly recommend making a quick half hour pit stop to explore this small , but awesome nature preserve. The turtles to me are the highlight , but they also have other reptiles and an array of birds that you can check out. This past visit, we had the opportunity to watch Sarge, the on site bald eagle get fed and bathed. Really neat experience. There are a couple trails where you can go on a quick hike and also a playground with a zip line for kids to play on. Entry till this park is free and you don't need to spend more than thirty to forty five minutes here tops.

I've been here twice or three times, since they shoot their fireworks in this water. They are quite nice. This park has many nice open space areas for recreation including a splash pad and baseball diamond. They hold festivals here and most recently their Merry Market Christmas fest which I also went to last year. It's a good space for vendors and food trucks and entertainment to gather. Parking is right beside the park and if it's a big event, it can be a challenge to find parking. It's nice they have this space. I do love Madeira Beach, & this festival and fireworks is great. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024 is their Xmas Boat parade in this same location with their market.

What!? This park is AMAZING…read more Waterfront? Check Baseball fields? Check Tennis courts? Check Basketball courts? (Free) Parking? Check and plenty of it! Restrooms/facilities? Check Benches and grassy areas? Check Maintained? TRIPLE CHECK ROC park seriously rocks! There is even a pier you can fish, dolphin site, or simply meditate from. If you are looking for more reasons to love Madeira Beach (LOL as if you need anything more than the stellar sunsets and cool local businesses of the whole middle beaches area.) this is certainly one of them. This park is tucked into the inner coastal, turn just before the library and there you are! My only ~words of warning~ are that the speed bumps are BRUTAL. So drive slowly :-) (which you should be anyway) and take it easy.
