    There she goes

I'm new to the gas thing, where I grew up this didn't exist. After living in Asheville for a while…read more(at a place that also didn't have proposed) I finally bought a house and decided to call this wonderful mountain town home. So if you've bought a house you know how crazy it is especially your first one when everything with the bank and loan goes wrong at no fault of your own. I move in finally. Everything is great. Getting my footing. Then one morning my hot water isn't working........ I thought I'll be damned if the house I just sunk all my extra cash into needs repairs right away. Further investigation had me realize that the current provider of my propane took the entire take off my house without notice!! No letter, no door hanger, no phone call NO WARNING! I was screwed. I called suburban propane and let them know what happened from this other provider. They were empathetic and helpful. They scheduled someone right away and I was up and going with hot water by the next day. Great customer service and a dedicated work force. Although I was mistreated by the last place maybe it was worth it if this is an indication of my new relationship. Truly thankful they went above had beyond to solve something they did not create. Thank you!

New to Asheville, our rented home has Suburban, so NC law says they have to fill it (it's their…read moretank, somehow). Been waiting 3 weeks on a refill, and now we're out, and snow/cold is on the way overnight. Avoid these people at all costs! When you call, you get an SC call center that tells you, "We can't connect you with the local Asheville office..they always have no workers!" Great stuff.

Exceptional Service from Suburban Propane During Hurricane Recovery…read more Like many in the mountains of western North Carolina, we felt the effects of Hurricane Helene on the morning of September 27, 2024. When the power went out, our propane-powered generators jumped into action, keeping both our home and my elderly mother's house next door running smoothly. Since our homes rely on propane not just for backup power but for everyday needs, it quickly became clear that we'd need to refill our tanks. To add to the challenge, we lost our water supply two days later, which only made the situation more stressful. We reached out to our current gas provider, who reassured us they were prioritizing customers based on urgency--emergencies, medical needs, and age--and scheduled us for the following week. To stretch out what little propane we had left, we ran the generators for just one hour every eight hours. But after several days, my mother's generator shut off, and my husband had to visit the gas company in person first thing that morning. They promised to be there within the hour due to her age, but no one ever came. After lunch, he went back again, and we were reassured they'd arrive before the day was over. Still, nothing. Had they just been upfront with us, we could've saved my mother's food by moving it into ice chests. But, unfortunately, everything spoiled. That's when we discovered Suburban Propane, thanks to a few recommendations, and they were truly a lifesaver! Lou was incredible--he really went above and beyond, despite everything they were juggling in the storm's aftermath. Even though one of their propane trucks had broken down, they still managed to bring my mother a temporary tank with 300 gallons of propane to keep her going until they could make a full delivery. Later that same day, they filled my mother's permanent tank, and by the next day, they had swapped out our old tank for a brand-new 500-gallon tank and filled it up. Everything was running perfectly! Meanwhile, throughout the entire process of switching over to Suburban Propane, our previous gas provider never showed up--no call, no appearance, absolutely nothing. It's been nearly two weeks now, and we've still heard nothing--no apology, no explanation. I can't thank Will, the technician, enough for everything he did. He was so attentive, coming back several times to make sure everything was running smoothly and taking care of any little issues that popped up. Both Will and Lou made us feel like we were their only customers, which was such a relief, especially in the middle of a natural disaster! Plus, they made it so easy to stay in touch, giving us their cell phone numbers so we could reach them anytime. Suburban Propane has been phenomenal, and I truly can't recommend them enough! Their service during such a stressful time was a reminder that we have great options in this area. If you're looking for local, personal, reliable service, you won't be disappointed with Suburban Propane!

1 Star -- Do NOT trust this U-Haul with your belongings…read more U-Haul in Swannanoa (Asheville area) threw away everything we owned after Hurricane Helene. Without proper notice or legal authorization, this location discarded the entire contents of our storage unit. We lost valuable and irreplaceable personal property. This happened after a major storm, when customers should be protected -- not taken advantage of. When we contacted them, we were met with dismissive responses and zero accountability. No explanation. No resolution. No effort to fix what they did. This wasn't a simple mistake -- it was a serious failure to follow the law, and we are now pursuing legal action as a result. If you're considering storing your belongings here, especially during an emergency or disaster, think twice. This location does not protect customers or their property.

UHaul should be ashamed to have their name associated with this facility. I have never dealt with…read morewith such incompetence, laziness, and rudeness in a collective group of people who are supposed to work in customer service. I used a Penske truck to move out of the unit, which is the first time in my life not using a UHaul. Shout out to Ashley Skinner who was the only helpful person who showed understanding and followed through on what she said she would do during this whole saga. First before choosing U-Boxes to move my stuff I specifically asked on call if they would be able to get them moved to Storage Unit area so I could unpack into a storage unit. They said it would be no issues. Turns out that wasn't the case and I was forced to rent a truck, unpack from the U-Box, drive 500ft to the next driveway, and then unload again. I would have really appreciated being told about the trailers they have to tow the U-Boxes during our discussion around this. My U-Boxes were closed to 2 weeks late and this was going to put me a day past having to pay another month.I called to discuss this getting a few days grace period. I couldn't remember what they where called so I said UHaul's version of PODS. This led to a 10 minute belligerent conversation with a woman who couldn't make the connection and just kept telling me UHaul doesn't have PODS. I had to pull into a parking lot and look up the U-Box name until she would "help" me. I was told that was a corporate thing and needed to call them. Called the number and they said it would have to be handled by the local store. Call back local store and this time I'm told it's not their issue and that I need to contact the 3rd party shipping company who I don't know and don't have a contract with. Call corporate number again and plead with person for help. They said they would make a note and if I did get charged to call the number and they would get it refunded. Then came move day. I showed up to check into the 10x10 storage you unit that I paid for. I was told they didn't have any of those and I'd have to pick something else. After some back and forth and finding a manager it took about 30-40m they gave me 5x10 and 10x5 at the 10x10 price. During that time I watch belligerent conversation with another customer who they couldn't help the day before because they system was down. A few months later I receive a message asking me to leave a review as I had check out. That was news to me as my stuff was very much there. I called local store nobody answered so it transferred me to call center. They instructed me that it needed to be handled locally but they had a messaging system. They said they would leave them a message letting them know it was urgent and they would call be back in a little bit. Nobody called, which is standard operating procedure, as for the 8-10 times I went through this process or was told someone would call be back it NEVER happened. Not a single time. After 3-4 hrs I called back and got gentleman who couldn't find me and said I would need to call back at 7:30 in the morning to try and get a manager. I was worried about my things so I had to make a 25m drive make sure my things were alright. I called back 7:30 same process of no answer, call center leaving message no callback.Called back in a 2-3 hours was told they reached out to the "Storage Unit Specialist" and she was going to call me in a few minutes. Waited 1-2 hours and called back. This time I did let it be known at this point it was getting ridiculous she was very short and borderline rude. After 15m she came back and told me Manager said there was a "glitch" and they were putting me back into the system with a month free rent. A month later they put me in system for 2 storage units for $70/month more. 2 more rounds of call loops and I was able to get Ashley who emailed me in 20m saying the issue was fixed. I moved last Friday and Saturday and there was feces all over the bathroom. Another customer said it was that way on Thursday as well.
