The paid staff is very minimal. 95% of those that run the Buskirk are volunteers. We drive to keep arts and entertainment alive in this busy society. I live its nonprofit nature, but my favorite part of the Buskirk is its diversity. From top shows like Rufus Wainwright to local shows like the Bloomington Symphony all the way to niche shows like Pride Film Festival or Rocky Horror...the Buskirk has it all.

Try out a sweet treat at the chocolate shop next door or a classic Chocolate Moose Ice Cream cone. Just strolling the charming downtown after an event is very date worthy. We decided to go see a play at the John Waldron Arts Center. We have stayed away from the center…read morebecause the center is downtown, and I am an amputee. We were pleasantly surprised to find a parking garage across the street with handicapped accessible parking spots on the lower level across the street. The cross walk is well marked and easy to cross. You will find a handicapped accessible entrance on the side of the building. Near this entrance you will find an elevator. We went to the second floor to see a play. Once there the staff removed a chair for me to wheel my chair in. The acoustics and lighting were very good. We will not hesitate to attend functions there in the future.

Fortune had everyone laughing and her interaction with the audience was great. After the show she sold her own merch in the lobby, signed autographs and posed for photos. This was our first time attending the Limestone Comedy Fest and we are hooked. Looking forward to next year. Thinking getting the multi-show pass next year would be a great idea.

I attended "David Lynch: The Art Life", a documentary featuring Lynch talking about his art, his…read morelife, and touching briefly on his films as well. Lynch is notoriously closely guarded as far as what his film, art, and music are about and what inspires him. And while he never comes out and says "X is about Y", you start to connect some dots together with this film (as well as about eight million more dots appearing). The theater is a fairly intimate theater. I don't think there are more than 100 seats. There are four paintings throughout the theater and curtains along the side, presumably to help with the acoustics. Rest rooms are on the lower floor, and the lower floor also has several vintage movie posters. Venue was very clean and well kept, and staff was professional and attentive. It might not be worth a trip for Bloomington by itself, but it is great to include if you are visiting.

My days of going to the Bluebird 2-3 times a week are long behind me, but as I was attending a show…read morethis weekend, I realized I have never done a Yelp review, and since it's potentially the best bar on the planet, I decided I needed to correct that oversight. During my college years, a good portion of my Bloomington memories are from the Bluebird. Fantastic bands, good friends and a somewhat aggressive number of drinks were the common theme multiple nights a week. Now that I'm OLD(er) the visits are less frequent, but when the right bands are in town and my calendar isn't slammed with adulting, I still find the Bird to be my favorite place in town. The original Bluebird was about half the size it is today. Several years ago, they bought out the restaurant next door and added a large additional space, leading to a pretty big bar/nightclub with a 'bar area' that includes a nice full bar, booths and tables, and the 'live music' portion which has a big stage, plenty of room for big crowds, and a warehouse vibe that is second to none. When you arrive, you'll start to see pictures of the amazing acts that run thru the Bluebird when they're just on the cusp of being 'huge' - from REM to Miranda Lambert to Gryffin, just about every genre is represented and it's nice to say 'I saw them with a few hundred of my friends' after you give ticketmaster your kidney to pay for their giant stadium shows. Reasonable drink prices, good people behind the bar, and the best bands currently playing the area, you can't go wrong with a night at the Bluebird. I wish I was still young and able to do multiple shows every week, but for now I'll just appreciate having it in my backyard so I can attend with the mood hits . Best bar in Bloomington.
