It required the commitment of leaving my house at 5 AM to make it to the first stop closest to me, Frostproof by 8 AM. This was the year I finally made it. The sale is always held the first Saturday in November and attracts thousands of people. It takes place from 8Am to 3 PM. The sale is sponsored by Ridge Scenic Highway Corridor, Corridor Management Entity, City of Lake Wales, Frostproof Chamber of Commerce, Lake Wales Woman's Club, Lake of the Hills Community Club, Town of Lake Hamilton, Dundee Methodist Church, and the City of Frostproof. These civic, religious, and non profit groups have been working together since 2007 to promote tourism along the Lake Wales Ridge. While you shop at the sale you can also dine at local restaurants and shop at businesses. While I pretty much stuck to the sale it was hard not to get sidetracked by some of the places I have always wanted to visit. I got to visit a few on this trip in addition to reaching each of the official sale stops. The sale runs along the Lake Wales Ridge and extends 38.7 miles from its intersection with US 27 S of Frostproof to where it intersects with US 17/92 in Haines City. There are five official locations for the sale. These are downtown Frostproof, Lake Wales at the Woman's Club, Lake of the Hills at the Community Clubhouse, Dundee at the Methodist Church, and Lake Hamilton at the Town Hall grounds. In between the official stops are many other unofficial sales. It would be impossible to stop at every sale in one day. Along the route are a number of cultural and historical sites along with lakes, natural areas, citrus groves, and unique Florida attractions. The first stop in Frostproof was the perfect way to start the sale. I loved shopping among the historic buildings of Frostproof. I got coffee with Mr. Chris in a historic train depot and visited the friendly folks at the Chamber of Commerce. I love how this sale introduced me to the beautiful Lake Wales Ridge. There is still so much more I want to explore.

This was the final stop in Haines City and my first time in the city. Early pioneers planted citrus groves and the town is still associated with citrus today. By the time I made it here the sale was wrapping up at town hall. It was a long day but I am glad got to experience the Scenic Ridge and see so many uniquely Florida places for the first time.

I look forward to the Strawberry Festival in Plant city every year now !…read more The fair runs from Late February into the second week of March every year and offers discounted tickets at local Publix stores. It goes back to late 1930 when local members of the newly organized Plant City Lions club has the idea of an event to celebrate the bountiful harvest of strawberries and boy am I glad they did ! There is strawberry everything at this fair - from popcorn to strawberry shortcakes , ice cream , donuts and even fresh picked strawberries for purchase to take home ! There are a ton of rides, food vendors , Local vendors and live animals for all ages to enjoy! I loved the pig races and eating all the delicious fairy food . I really wanted a pair of red cowboy boots ( yes they have retail vendors on site ) but left without them darn it . Parking is not so fun as there is no designated lot so you have to find a lot to park in and ranges from $10-30. This was my 3rd time coming and I will definitely come back with the family and friends to enjoy fun moments .

EDIT TO ADD: I filed for a refund within a day of my trip through this waste of money. To date (1/3/25) I have not even received a response of any kind! I WOULD RATE THIS WITH NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD AUBURNDALE, FL (International Market World) location I have gone to this a few times over the years, and it seems as though it has steadily declined each year. The first time I went, of course, the light show was awesome; everything seemed to be in working order. At the end of the light show we were able to park and there were a few amusement rides (ferris wheel, bumper cars), fair food vendors, a petting zoo, camel(s), a wolf exhibit, and even a carriage/hay ride. Inside the huge tent there was circus type show with a carnival atmosphere )complete with HUGE beach balls being batted around the audience!)--it was awesome. I decided then that I wanted to make this a tradition to take my children & there families every year. The second time I went (again with children & grandchildren), the light show was great; everything seemed to be in working order. There were no rides, and not much of anything other than food trucks outside the tent. Inside the tent, there was no circus type atmosphere like before, only a short magic show and some carnival type games and one bounce house. They did have a walk-in aviary that was enjoyed by one child & grandchild, but it cost extra to enter. I think they had the wolf exhibit then, too, but it was shut down when we were there...very disappointed overall after such an epic time the first year there; a serious let-down. This time, tonight? Never again! Not worth the time, and definitely not worth the money. I'd have been disappointed even if it had been free! To start, we tuned in the radio station and all we heard was dead air. Drove a little ways through the light show and decided to try the radio again--no change (yes, the radio works fine). So here we are, driving through what is supposed to be a 3D light show--WITH NO MUSIC. The theme is "The 12 Days of Christmas," ya'll...the lights through that part were fine, but how enjoyable is it to do so without the piped in music for ambience??? So we made the best of a bad situation and tried our best to sing the 12 days (thank goodness the kids remembered the words better than the adults!). Lights through other sections of the drive? Yeah, not so much...there were large sections of dark because the lights were not on! No idea if they were burnt out or otherwise malfunctioning, but that's not what we paid for, regardless! The biggest upset (for me, at least) was when we got to the big arch with the hundreds (thousands?) of multi-colored lights that usually flash to the beat of the music--which was non-existent tonight! Add in more dark sections and an overall bummed feeling at not getting our money's worth, and we decided to head to the tent to see if we could salvage the night... Unfortunately, that was a wasted effort and more of a disappointment--there were no animals, rides or anything of that nature outside this time, only one sad little (expensive) food truck, and maybe 2 vendors set up (one looked to be an artist/drawing type thing, but no one was tending to it). We get to the entrance to the tent and find out that this is a SEPARATE CHARGE for admission to it! Needless to say, after spending almost $30 for tickets (online price; get this, though--cash price AT THE GATE? $20!) I have been disappointed for the last time and will not be throwing good money after bad any more. I should've learned my lesson after the 2nd trip, but I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Like the song says "We won't get fooled again!" I think I'll go back to the old family tradition of driving around different neighborhoods to look at lights for FREE!
