Thank You for building this rink in lakeport!!!!!!! Gorgeous new smooth surface (do be aware that this is a small rink). Kept clean. They have skee ball (and an adorable little arcade space). I dislike the pvc pipe contraptions kids like to use to "learn" to skate here. They create dangerous conditions on the skate floor during open skate and I'm not convinced they really help people learn the balance points. Fewer of these, limiting their use to 30 minutes a person, only offering them for the first hour of a skate session or something, would be awesome. Some rinks use/offer these, some don't. This rink does. The skate fee is a bit high for folks who skate for athletics but seems right for recreation (ten bucks... this quickly becomes cost prohibitive for training volume visits but makes for a nice date night/family night). The staff here is rad. I've gotten consistent friendly treatment (from different folks over 3-4 spaced out visits). They hand out free skate passes when appropriate (a counter person missed the skates I brought once and accidentally charged a skates fee... was happy to hand me a pass. That's hospitality!) They "Up ticketed" me a few tickets so I could take home a plastic horse as my skee ball trophy. These are the kind of "nice perks" attitudes that keep people coming back. This seems like a fun place to work!

This was the third school house in ALL of California, and is now a museum housing artifacts from the gold production lands nearby (further down Morgan Valley Road - closed in 1993) as well as period pieces that you probably won't see anywhere else. From the website: The Schoolhouse Museum, built in 1877 and restored and opened as a museum in 1993, hosts an interesting collection of local pioneer artifacts. The museum also a collection of Native American artifacts and a rock and mineral display. A restored schoolroom and Victorian Parlor add to the charm and authenticity. I haven't been able to get up there as…read moremuch as I'd like, but was able to spend a couple post-Christmas days at the lake house with my wife and in-laws. My sister, who gets to the lake far more often than I do, recommended Stonehouse Cellars as a spot to visit... I'm in the wine business - been in wine retail and hospitality for over 20 years - so I know good service and hospitality when I experience it. I can say that we had an amazing visit at Stonehouse. The tasting room is fantastic - beautifully designed and appointed - very welcoming and comfortable. Has amazing views. We were there on a cold & rainy day and so were not able to walk the grounds or sit outside, but I looks like a great place to hang out, rain or shine. The wines were also very impressive. We shared 3 flights and got a few extra pours, so we tasted 15-20 wines. I was most impressed by the Cabernets. What I enjoyed the most was doing the Cab flight, which allows you to taste 4 Cabs side by side that were aged in different types of oak. Very informative! What made the visit so special, though, was our hostess, Heather. She was friendly, welcoming and amazingly knowledgable about, not only the winery and wines, but the history of the area. She wowed us with her passion and knowledge and her multi-faceted talents - pastry chef, scientist, opera singer - all rolled into one. She brought all these skills to the table (pun intended) during our tasting visit. She even allowed us to check out one of the guest rooms - highly recommended. As a parting gift, she sang us a song - in Italian! We had a choice between Italian or French - went with Italian. Is there anything Heather can't do?? What a memorable visit! We'll be back and highly recommend you visit as well.
