Overall, the staff is unhelpful, and the doctor is pretty rude. I've had to jump through hoops getting somewhat unnecessary tests to make her feel better about prescribing HRT. Also, if you enjoy being on hold for extended periods, then having someone come on and ask what you want, only to put you back on hold and then return, forgetting why you called - this is the place for you! read more

I went to Bloom OBGYN for all my prenatal appointments and used their team for my delivery at Sibley Hospital. While some of the providers were fantastic, my experience with Dr. Scott Osmun was absolutely horrific. When I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, Dr. Osmun was incredibly negative, relying on scare tactics and outdated data rather than providing balanced, evidence-based guidance. When I asked him to send me literature to support his claims, he couldn't--or simply didn't. Instead of offering support, he made an already stressful diagnosis even more overwhelming. Unfortunately, I ended up delivering with him as well, and the experience was just as frustrating. He insisted a C-section was inevitable because I wasn't progressing fast enough. I requested a few more hours with my doula (most doulas refuse to work with Bloom because of Dr. Osmun), and we used positional techniques--something he completely dismissed--to help labor progress. Sure enough, I was able to fully dilate to 10 cm. Then, he insisted I would need forceps or a vacuum because my baby was hitting my pelvic bone. Again, we asked for more time, and I was able to deliver my baby without intervention. Instead of allowing me the standard 30 minutes to deliver my placenta naturally, Dr. Osmun immediately performed a manual extraction, a painful and unnecessary intervention. His priority seemed to be rushing the process rather than respecting my body's ability to do what it needed. In appointments, he was condescending and dismissive, treating me like I was an uninformed mother who knew nothing--despite my background in health. His attitude, coupled with his outdated approach to care, made me feel unheard and disregarded. That being said, I absolutely loved Dr. Abdalla, Lauren Gordon, and Clare Heintzelman. They provided compassionate, thoughtful care, and I truly appreciated their expertise. However, no matter how great they are, the risk of ending up with Dr. Osmun again has made me switch practices. Another issue with Bloom OBGYN is their annual $100 fee, which feels classist and unnecessary for a practice already profiting from patient care. Overall, while some of the doctors here are excellent, my experience with Dr. Osmun was enough to make me leave the practice entirely. If you're considering Bloom, be mindful of which provider you see. read more

Absolutely terrible experience here. Had my initial appointment and it was fine. Dr. Loveland made some rude comments (asking me why I haven't gotten gastric bypass yet????) but overall it was an ok experience and the nurse was very nice. Location is good and they take my insurance so decided to give them a chance. Had to come back on November 6 for an ultrasound. My ultrasound was November 6 and I was told the doctor would get back to me in a few days. After a week I followed up, then followed up again, called, nothing. These we're important test results I was waiting for and it was complete radio silence. Finally on November 22 I get a notice that my results are up on the patient portal. I was able to download them but still as of today, December 16 (!!!!) to this day no doctor or nurse or anyone from the office has bothered to call or email to review the results with me. On top of it, for "indication" Dr. Loveland wrote "Patient presents BRCA+" ......which is NOT true or accurate and also caused me a lot of concern. I am not BRCA+! I've done the tests. That is completely irresponsible of her. In the past month I've called the office multiple times to speak to the office manager as I want my $100 fee (yes, they charge you a yearly fee in addition to your insurance co pay!) refunded to me. I have no plans to ever visit this practice again and I am shocked that they are charging $100 yearly office fee yet it took them over two weeks to send over ultrasound results, no follow up to review results, no communication from the office manager, no email address which to contact anyone. And on top of that the doctor couldn't even correctly list why I was getting an ultrasound!!! Absolutely terrible experience! read more

I filled out a new patient request form on their website over a week ago. After they didn't respond, I followed up. After being placed on hold for a considerable amount of time, they informed me they were completely booked for the month of my due date (which is 7 months out). When I told the person I spoke to that I had reached out to them more than a week ago and never heard back, she said something along the lines of "oh right, there are problems with our website. We're planning to take that form down..." You would think with a practice like obstetrics they would have some understanding for the importance of timely responses and communicating effectively. But alas my first and last impression of this practice is that they are incredibly inconsiderate and not well organized. read more

I came to Bloom in 2017 at the recommendation of my long time GYN Dr. Cooper who had retired. I have a history of fibroid tumors and ovarian cysts. Dr. Osmun assisted by Dr. Loveland did laparoscopic surgery to remove my left benign Brenner ovarian tumor. I got along fine after the surgery and did not need to spend the night at Sibley Hospital. I wrote Dr. Cooper a letter to tell him about my surgery and how well cared for I felt at Bloom. I have been very happy with my medical care and feel welcome and comfortable with Dr. Osmun and Bloom. Avoid this practice. As a patient of 10+ years, it pains me to say their care has sharply declined. I had to cancel a mammogram--scheduled six months in advance--because the office failed to respond to an insurer's verification request sent a month prior. Despite multiple calls and portal messages from me in addition to the insurer reaching out, it took three weeks to get any response. And even then, they still did not contact the insurer to complete the ask for insurance coverage, which would take five minutes. For an office that charges an annual fee, this subpar level of patient service is unacceptable. Staff turnover seems constant, likely pointing to deeper issues-- while I'm sympathetic to the challenges that poses, patients should NOT have to pay the price. read more

They cancelled my wife's glucose test for no reason three days before it was scheduled right before the holidays (it had been on calendar for more than a month). We had actually altered our travel plans to accommodate this appointment. Since it was the holidays, we had to reschedule more than two weeks later. When she arrived for the rescheduled appointment, they had her drink the drink (and go through the unpleasant effects), then made her sit around for two hours. Only after our second inquiry did they check with the nurse and subsequently told us it was now too late to draw her blood and she will need to come back to do it again! No respect for anyone's time or well being (did I mention this is an extremely unpleasant test?). This was absolutely disgraceful and has us seriously questioning our comfort with trusting them with our delivery. We are looking for a new OBGYN, but don't know if anyone will take new patients at this stage. Highly recommend looking elsewhere. UPDATE: We were able to find an alternate provider. The Bloom staff is disorganized, rude, inflexible, and cares little about their patients. My longtime obgyn moved here from another practice, and they would not let me see her without starting over as a new patient. To refill a prescription, I had to go to a Dr I'd never seen before at the previous practice. Then, I had to schedule another appointment with a separate Dr at Bloom (which my insurance would not pay for) because my obgyn could not see me as a "new patient" for three months. For the interim Bloom appt, I arrived at the building on time, but there was no parking (it is next to Jackson-Reed high school and traffic at 8:15 -8:30 am is terrible). By the time I found street parking, they refused to see me because I was 10 mins late. Speaking to me in a huge conference room, the office manager told me they were behind schedule and didn't have enough exam rooms to see all their patients, so I would have to reschedule for two weeks later and go back to the previous practice again for another interim refill. I eventually left in frustration, so I am unable to see a physician I've seen for years and been through surgery with. Bloom really needs to get its priorities straight because patients are not their priority. read more

This review update is long overdue. I have 2 "Bloom Babies", one delivered by Dr. Slate in 2021 and one delivered by Dr. Osmun in 2022 and both were overall positive experiences throughout my pregnancy care. Both Dr. Slate and Dr. Osmun were kind, steady, and supportive during my deliveries and in each case I tried scheduling my inductions with Dr. Loveland because I really felt like we jived well in my appointments and both times my babies had other ideas. That's to say, I felt comfortable with all of the doctors. Did I always have perfect appointments? No, but pregnancy and the pandemic were extremely stressful times and I did feel listened to and cared for and 100% confident in the staff here. Yes there were some nurses that I connected with better than others, but as a long-time patient of Lauren Gordon's, her act is hard to follow as she is simply the best GP provider I have ever had. I have since moved away from the DC area or I would still be going here. I've seen some people complain about the new patient selection process and while I understand that is frustrating I commend Bloom on knowing their limitations and not compromising current patient care for new patients. I have other practices I went to who are always accepting new patients and current patients suffer for it with extended wait times, lack of appointments, and stressed providers. As for Sibley Hospital, I think they have a lot to work on but that is a different review topic. read more

This place has really gone downhill. I started coming here before COVID and generally had good experiences, especially with Dr. Blackburn, who was amazing. However, the quality of the staff has steeply declined, and most of the good doctors have left. Despite being in a nice area, the customer service and medical quality now feel very low and borderline unsafe. During my last appointment, my doctor couldn't even remember left from right, which was alarming. I don't want to be mean, so I won't go into more details, but after five years of being a patient here, I'm ready to find a new doctor. Additionally, they have an "annual fee" that keeps increasing. Even if you only come in for your annual visit and nothing else, you have to pay this fee. It was $100 in 2019 and is now $250. read more

Bloom came recommended by many friends - but when I called to make an appt - I was really surprised by their "screening" process where they ask a lot of questions about your age and previous birth experiences and other risk factors before putting you on a "waitlist." They said they are trying not to take on too many patients for a specific month, but I am very early and it seems unlikely my whole month is already taken up. It seems like they are trying to screen out more high risk people based on age and other factors under the guise of a waitlist. It was very disappointing and off-putting. read more

Please stay away from this place. It's absolute chaos. Seeing a Dr. is a hustle, communication of diagnosis and treatments is poorly done and with no empathy for patients. Several examples: 1. I started seeing Dr. Rafucci this year, I was then diagnosed with endometriosis after a breast cancer diagnosis. I had to do a painful uterus biopsy and I couldn't get the pain medicine that was offered to me for before the procedure until an hour before it was done. It probably didn't kick in resulting in a more painful experience. Needless to say I called several times and try to convey this message to anyone on the phone the day before and the day off the biopsy. 2. Result came back showing an endometriosis. They were partially communicated by a nurse and could only talk to Dr. Rafucci after fighting with the front desk for an appointment. Imagine having a partial result (from the nurse) of a condition that could indicate cancer and not being able to reach your Doctor. It turned out I had to go for a Hysterectomy and were referred to an amazing Doctor at Sibley. Thank God for that. 3. Fast forward 3 months. I spent last night at the ER dealing with a very painful ovary cyst rupture. Orders from the ER are to see the gynecologist today for a follow up. Called and waited for 48 minutes only to be transfered again to the front desk who tells me come and see the Dr. in 6-8 weeks. What is the type on care they are offering patients in this place? My ovary is super enlarged and I just had a histerectomy but I still need to beg and fight with the front desk to talk to a Dr. or a nurse. Anyhow.... this is my case and if I were you I would stay away from this place. You deserve better! read more

Just had my second delivery at Sibley with Dr. Loveland. Once again fantastic care! My husband i and felt very safe in her capable hands. My sons umbilical cord was wrapped around his abdomen which made pushing difficult but she stayed by me the whole time and coached me through it. I delivered a healthy baby boy with her guidance and we could not have been more appreciative. My husband and I recommend her to everyone!!!! Also huge shout out to Clare NP. Please please save yourself the trauma and go somewhere else!! Scott Osmun shouldn't be practicing anymore! He pressured me into inducing early because of an ultrasound showing the baby would be 10 pounds at birth (he was wrong, the baby was 8 lbs 2 oz). Some of the younger providers are good but it's not worth the risk of getting Osmun on the date of your delivery. He caused me a lot of trauma by forcing a C section and was INCREDIBLY rude to my doula and was only nice to my wife when he found out she is also a physician. We called MANY OBGYN friends in other states and they said that what he was doing was absolutely not correct and was malpractice. Just go somewhere else. I promise it's not worth it. read more

I would encourage the reviewers who experienced dangerous medical situations from the treatment they received here to file a formal complaint. Yelp is a good way to warn others (or balance out reviews with your experience), but definitely go to the DC Department of Health and file a formal complaint. Anyway, on to my review. I had gone to this practice for several years, and last year when it was time to remove my IUD is when things went downhill for me. I had asked Dr Loveland about some alternatives to an IUD swap, but she did not take my requests seriously and began talking down to me in an condescending way. As if I didn't really know what I wanted. She also was oddly fixated on my weight although my weight between my last appointment and this one was almost the same. AND with my PCP labwork (which she had a copy of) showed several of my labs finally trending in the right direction, so my health was definitely improving in other ways but she choose to only focus on my weight. The way she was talking you'd think I had rapidly gained 10s of pounds since she last saw me. I also experienced a slew of really bad side effects since switching to the other IUD she recommended and no one I saw there seemed to believe me. I kept being told to "wait it out" and "give it time". After a few months and visits of this, I got fed up and went to a different obgyn. Turns out that damned IUD was embedded, which explained A LOT of my issues. read more

I have been going to Bloom OBGYN since 2017. Dr. Osmun delivered our beautiful daughter in May 2020. He was so wonderful, I had to be induced and he worked with me to make sure I could have the vaginal birth that I wanted. Last month I experienced a pregnancy loss at 21 weeks pregnant. Dr. Loveland always seems extremely rushed and has been very dismissive of any questions that I have. I find her to be extremely rude and condescending, to the point that I left my most recent appointment in tears. Her rushed approach during one appointment missed something that should have been identified, so I cannot in good conscience recommend the practice to others. I can't really speak to what the other doctors are like, but with only three doctors in the practice, I'm not willing to take the 1/3 chance that Dr. Loveland would be there to deliver my child so will be looking for a new practice. read more

I had an extremely traumatic experience with this practice. After giving birth, I ended up in the hospital for a month with no plan. It is only because my family advocated for me outside of Bloom to the rest of the hospital system that doctors from Sibley came to support me. If you need routine care with no complications, you will find this practice deluxe, but at some point, Dr. Osmun or Dr. Loveland will offend you. But please be aware, if something goes south, run to a different practice or hospital. read more

I'm updating my review after a very positive postpartum experience with Bloom. All the Bloom practitioners and assistants provided wonderful care during my pregnancy and Dr. Blackburn (who has since left the practice but was absolutely fantastic) delivered my baby in December. Since then, I have found Bloom to be very supportive in helping me navigate postpartum health concerns. Dr. Slate and Dr. Loveland have made extra time to address my questions and to provide me with great referrals when needed. I feel so confident and supported under their care. Had a horrible experience with Dr. Loveland that I am still am shaken up about a year later. My water broke on the same day that I was scheduled to be induced. Dr. Loveland advised me not to come in as Sibley was at capacity. She was totally insensitive to how shocking this scenario was, did not offer any backup plan or explanation as to what would happen. Her direct words were "wait it out unless you are keeled over in pain." At this point my husband tried to step in but she was so nasty to him that he felt uncomfortable moving forward with her. We told her we needed to find a bed asap and ended up going to Inova Fairfax where I ended up having an emergency c-section soon after arriving. I shutter to think what would have happened to my son if I "waited it out" at home like she advised. I didn't find her particularly sensitive during my appointments, but I chose to continue as I trusted she would be a good doctor during the delivery ( I didn't find Dr. Osmun to be warm either, but he delivered a friends baby and she had only the best things to say about the experience so I wish he had been on call). If you get this same vibe from her- do not stay! read more

I've been a patient at Bloom for almost two years! The service provided has been incredible to date - truly the best gynecologic care I've received in the DC area. Prior to becoming a patient at Bloom I went to Georgetown Hospital. While the care at Georgetown was good, I always felt like I was just a nameless patient coming in for an appointment. When my husband and I began trying for a baby, I made the switch to Bloom at the recommendation of a friend. Best decision ever. I love that Bloom is a smaller practice. I feel that it allows the patient and the provider an opportunity to get to know each other on a much more personal level. In January 2020, I sadly suffered a miscarriage of my first pregnancy. Dr. Osmun took such great care of me following that loss. When I got pregnant again in May 2020, I primarily received care from Flynn and Dr. Osmun throughout my pregnancy. As you can imagine, a pregnancy following a loss can be emotionally challenging, but both Flynn and Dr. Osmun really helped carry me over the finish line! Flynn might be the nicest human ever, and Dr. Osmun is a saint. Both Flynn and Dr. Osmun always took my nervous calls and promptly responded to my questions via the patient portal reassuring me that everything was ok. Additionally, the level of empathy and medical support I received from the other providers and fantastic nurses at Bloom really helped to restore my confidence in my pregnancy. And fast-forward to a year later, I delivered my first baby in January 2021! Dr. Loveland delivered my son via an unplanned c-section. Having gone to the hospital prepared to have a vaginal birth, I had no idea what to expect when my pregnancy transitioned to a c-section. Dr. Loveland explained everything step-by-step and made me feel so calm before the procedure. Side note, having been awake for the events leading up to/and during the c-section, I feel like Dr. Loveland could lead an army into battle! She professionally directed each person in that operating room like a boss - I felt like I was watching the most well-rehearsed ballet! While I know recovering from a c-section is different for everyone, I had the easiest recovery and my scar is healing so well (thank you Dr. Loveland!) I can't recommend Bloom enough. I chose Bloom after hearing good things through a neighborhood group. I was leaving a different practice that didn't feel supportive, caring, or personable. At Bloom, I felt truly heard and cared for by each doctor and nurse. They ensured I was healthy through my pregnancy and provided excellent care throughout the delivery. I've seen some negative reviews of Dr. Loveland, which really shocked me. She and Dr. Osmun are both excellent doctors and I'm glad to have them in my corner. read more

We did not realize this at the time, but they deserve more than five stars. First, Kudos to these doctors for maintaining a practice that is small enough that you will know the OB who delivers your baby! We are currently at a practice that has 10 MDs and we probably will meet the OB who delivers for the first time in the hospital. Second, Kudos to Bloom for taking time at our visits to talk with us, answer lots of questions, Third, they do imaging in house! I just had my first prenatal appointment with Dr. King at Bloom and I am so pleased that I recently switched my services to them. As a former Ritter Hill patient I was getting tired of the customer service and terrible wait time that was being provided at that practice. The suite is extremely clean and has a very warm and welcome feel. The receptionists were helpful with check in and assisted me since this was my first appointment there. I was a little early but was called back right at my appointment time. Tina who first brought me back to the room was extremely cheerful and nice. I quickly got a sonogram and the sonographer was so patient and kind with me as this was a first time for me and I was a little nervous as we were confirming the pregnancy. Dr. King came in shortly after and spent so much time with me answering all of my questions. I am so happy that I am choosing this as my new practice. They are very upfront about the $100 a year for administration services and I was pleased to pay this. They have a great online portal system as well or you can check everything including messages with your doctors. I am also thrilled that they deliver at Sibley. Not a fan of Dr. Loveland. It was my first pregnancy when I saw her in office. I asked her a question about sugar intake while pregnant and she shot back with a rhetorical question versus answering my question. She is not warm and will make you feel dumb for most any question you have. At my appt, she was thrilled the sonographer did my 20 week ultrasound "so she didn't have to". Bad bedside manner. I have friends who saw her as well and thoroughly agree. Therefore, I switched from Bloom to Physicians and Midwives of Alexandria to avoid the risk of having her deliver my baby. It was the best decision. Literally every doctor I saw at my new practice were so kind and informative. read more

It makes me really sad to write this review, since I've followed my doctor here for many years, even from other practices. I found her care to be excellent and her to be kind and compassionate. So knowing how hard it will be to replicate that experience, it's such a bummer to have to leave her and this practice. However - I'm joining many others in writing this review, in hopes that they may reconsider the 100 dollar annual fee that it seems has caused many other loyal patients to leave this practice. Finding a good doctor is stressful enough. Why are services that women truly need now coming with a premium just to walk in the door and be seen? I can't justify that and I'm unsure how the practice is - because their answer - more customized care, calling your insurance company, etc, seem like services that should be provided regardless of my ability to pay 100 dollars a year. Certainly I can afford this fee, but why would I condone this and pay it? It's deeply disappointing. Listen to your former patients - and I'll be the first in line to get back in the door. read more

Love Bloom! I just had my first baby and Bloom was wonderful throughout the entire process. Throughout my prenatal care, I saw all the providers at Bloom and they were all fantastic. They answered all my questions, usually anticipating them before I even had to ask. The front desk staff are great and scheduling is a breeze - they happily schedule out the standard appointments as far as their system will allow. Their office is warm and comfortable and there was always parking available at the meters outside. Dr. King did my actual delivery and was just fantastic. He was encouraging and helpful, answering questions I had and keeping me well informed of anything and everything that was going on. At one point, my BP dropped and so did baby's heart rate. We had to monitor her closely and Dr. King's calm approach to all of it helped me stay calm and focused. Then during pushing he was super encouraging, helping find the best position and coaching me through pushing (along with the amazing L&D nurse). He has perhaps the best bedside manner of any doctor I've had in my life! For postnatal care, Lauren at Bloom offers a home visit within the first two weeks - such a great service!! Super helpful to check in and have an opportunity to ask all those first time parent questions. And postnatal care for the person who just gave birth is severely lacking in this country, so it's amazing to see a practice offer more than just the 6 week check up to ensure the birthing parent is healing well. From prenatal to labor to postnatal, Bloom has been great and I highly recommend them. Looking forward to continuing all my gyn care with them! read more

I really did like this doctor. She was very late to my first appointment but the reason was solid enough for me to think, "Oh ok." and still want to recommend them to others. However, now they charge a $100 dollar annual fee to continue to be seen, plus you have to pay your co pay. I go once a year... Having lived in DC for over 10 years I've been through 3 different OBGYNs before coming to Bloom and this practice BY FAR has been the best experience even among my other medical experiences (primary care, dental, chiropractic). I've been to a practice where there was just one doctor but felt rushed because he had so many appointments in one day. I've been to another practice with dozens of doctors with varying quality of bedside manners. Bloom has been the perfect balance of size of practice, professionalism, and attentiveness. Yes, there's a $100 annual fee and I get that that's not financially accessible for everyone especially if you're only coming in once a year for yearly checkups. As a pregnant lady though, given how many appointments and tests I have to go through the cost is worth it because of all the extremely prompt attention I get from the front desk, phone receptionist, 24 hr call line, patient email portal, nurses, midwives, ultrasound techs, lab staff, doctors - everyone A to Z has been SO friendly, helpful, and patient. Appointments always start on time and I never feel rushed. I've seen all the doctors and Flynn and Lauren and everyone has excellent bedside manner. It also helps that there's a lab onsite - you don't have to go offsite for bloodwork or urine collection and you get your test results quickly. I've had a few scary moments during this pregnancy and anytime I've reached out I get immediate and professional responses and ease of mind. One time I called to make an appointment and got the voicemail so I hung up thinking I would try again later. Less than 5 minutes later they called me and said "saw we got a missed call from you Ms. X, what can we help you with?" Amazing. I like that the practice is smaller and that I like all the staff so I'm not worried about who's on call when I deliver because I feel confident whoever I get is going to give me and the baby quality care. A friend recommended Bloom to me and I was hesitant at first because it's not close to work or home but the commute to the office is worth it for the service we get. read more

I waited for an appointment with Dr. Loveland for 4 months. Bloom practice was recommended to me by two friends who are long-term patients of other doctors at the practice, and I waited patiently for the appointment, excited at the prospect of finding a good doctor to help me navigate pregnancy, as my partner and I recently decided to have a baby. I have a couple of health issues that could potentially cause complications down the line, so I chose the practice carefully. Bloom was recommended as a highly caring and professional environment, where doctors take their time with the patients and offer individualized care. Dr. Loveland provided the WORST doctor-patient experience I have ever had. I am not an overly emotional person and I'm not a high maintenance client, but I walked out of Dr. Loveland's office in tears. Dr. Loveland was unfriendly, impatient, condescending, and plain old rude. I came in well prepared for my first ever pre-pregnancy appointment, I had a list of questions written down, medications with me to ask questions about, well researched family history of various diseases, and details on my pre-existing conditions. After about three minutes of Dr. Loveland's presence in the room I realized that I would not be asking even half of the questions that I had prepared and that I would not be coming back. I had a hard time not crying right in front of her because of the way that she was reacting to everything I was saying. She made me feel stupid, unprepared, and as if I was wasting her precious time. She was also extremely condescending to me for having started trying to have a baby before having an appointment with a doctor. Dr. Loveland's behavior was unprofessional and completely unacceptable. This is especially given the fact that she is the main face of the practice. I will never know if she was just having a bad day or if there was something about me that rubbed her the wrong way before she even walked into the room, and I don't care. I agree with several of the other reviewers, and their reviews describe my experience almost exactly. When a woman makes the decision to have a child - arguably the most important of life's decisions - a condescending careless attitude from a new doctor is the last thing she needs. As a side note, everyone else at the practice was absolutely lovely, from the receptionist to the phlebotomist, to the manager. I called the manager a couple of days after the appointment to inform her of Dr. Loveland's completely inappropriate behavior, and, after apologizing profusely, she promised that this would be brought to the attention of all the doctors at the next meeting. I really hope Dr. Loveland changes her attitude to new patients. Since then, I visited Dr. Safran at Capital Women's Care (a practice I went to for many years, but my regular obgyn retired this summer). He was incredibly helpful and kind. I am so happy I found a good doctor and that I feel I can trust. read more
