Though sad that our older, much smaller local Harrison Hospital is no more, I understand there were economic reasons. . What we do have is a very modern, very gorgeous, and always growing medical facility! And I've recently learned there is a strong and binding mandate for non-religious affiliation despite the name. I love that my oncologist moved from a smaller, much older independent location in Poulsbo to a fully functional Oncology Center. Dr Sirisha Jain saved my husbands life diagnosing a one in a million auto-immune blood disease (and treated me the following year) and now she has the facilities and colleagues to work miracles on so many others! The realities of the understaffed, undersized ER and other departments Covid/post-covid have been and are being addressed with stable staffing replacing traveling nurses, the opening of urgent/emergency satellite locations and alternatives, and the development of residency and other training programs which are growing highly capable, local talent choosing to stay in our community . It was bad, and so was COVID; hopefully they'll be better prepared for the next major stress testing both by heart patients and our community as a whole! I had a 95 year old friend fall and shatter his hip. Surgery was attempted but there was not much that could have been done and he passed 2 weeks later. During those weeks, the care he received was world class! After a short stint on the orthopedic floor, he was transferred to the top for hospice. From the care and attention he and we received to the spacious, ultra modern suite with views of the water and mountains beyond, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last days of his life together. The medical wings with doctor offices, oncology, labs, imaging, plus the heliport if life-saving measures beyond what's available is needed, I feel very secure that the needs of the young as well as our aging population will be met from now and into the future. When I awoke confused after surgery performed in the last year at the old Bremerton location, I looked around, tried to get dressed to leave, and was questioned by a nurse who asked me where I thought I was. I said " Mexico?", think I must have been in a different country try with crumbling medical facilities! I've since learned that you can find high class care in many parts of Mexico, but point is you'd never be confused in our beautiful new building. Is it perfect? NO! But IMO, it's a shiny gem in our community.

It's a shocking fact about me that, unlike most people, I am not a huge fan of medical procedures…read more I know! Take a moment to absorb that information. But sometimes I find myself having to get poked or prodded, for instance, this trip to LabCorp for blood work. And while it's not something I want to put on my calendar every day, I have to say this experience was about 1,000x better than it might have been, so woohoo for that. First, I love that you can just make an appointment online -- super, super easy. I actually got on the computer at 10 and made an appointment for 1 p.m. same day. Second, if you're in West Seattle (or close by) it's really easy to get to. There's parking on the street and inside, and it's a small place in a quiet neighborhood, so much less hassle than trekking to First Hill if you don't have to. Third, I walked right in and was next; no waiting. In fact, I learned when I got there that I didn't even need an appointment -- apparently it's not a long-lines-of-people kind of thing to get blood drawn, so that was good to know just in case. (I am a nervous type and like making appointments.) The surroundings were honestly just so-so; there's a main lobby that's nice, but I was in the lab lobby, which feels more like a waiting nook at an old hospital, but it's fine. The room where the blood was drawn was a little small, and another guy came in to have his done while we were wrapping up my procedure, and that was just a little weird -- I am by far not the worst person about having to give blood, but I don't particularly want to watch someone else's pool up into a vial or bag, either. But the best part was Kristy who checked me in and drew my blood. She was funny, chatty, supportive ("You can grab my arm if you need to,") and kept me laughing as we talked about terrible self-published ebooks. Most importantly, she got that needle in so easily I honestly barely even felt it -- I actually had to check to see if she'd gotten started. And it was over quickly. So high-fives for this office all around!

I also got extremely light headed after they 3rd poke (don't know if it was the heat or my reaction to getting a needle inserted multiple times with no result). They sent me to Lapcorp, and the lady was done drawing my blood in less than 1 minute. I went early in the morning and there was no wait.. thank you Lapcorp!

I am filing this complaint due to a highly concerning series of events during my recent emergency…read moredepartment visit. I experienced medical negligence, unprofessional conduct, and poor infection control practices that warrant immediate review. I came in with chest pain. After cardiac issues were ruled out, no further testing or treatment was offered, even though I was still in pain (later confirmed to be severe heartburn). I was discharged without receiving any appropriate relief or care for my symptoms. The nurse who placed my IV blew a vein in my arm and caused visible bruising and pain. I was later handed discharge papers--but still had the IV needle in my hand. I had to return to the charge desk and alert them. Only then did the nurse reappear and take my vitals again, acting as if I hadn't already been discharged. Even more concerning, my blood sample (drawn during IV flush an hour prior) was still sitting out on the exam table. When I asked about it, the nurse simply tossed it in the sharps container. My urine sample was also left out in the open. I had to ask what was happening with it. The nurse responded that since I had told them I wasn't pregnant, they "didn't need it anymore"--but no one had informed me they would be discarding it, nor did anyone properly dispose of it until I asked. The level of care was sloppy, unsafe, and deeply unprofessional. My husband was present for the entire visit and witnessed each of these failures firsthand. Kaitlynn
