After moving cross country and leaving my colorist of 15+ years, I struggled to find someone who could get my color right. I had two super-bad experiences elsewhere, that had left my hair really damaged and my color a brassy, broken mess, with long dark roots. I don't know how she did it, but 2.5 hours later I walked out of her studio with gorgeous, dimensional, champagne blonde hair! Nope. Keep looking. This salon can't give you the gorgeous wheat-blonde natural results you're looking for. If you ignore this review, what you will wind up with: dull gray-brown roots with ash white streaks that don't blend into your hairline at all. You'll shell out over $200 and you won't be happy. The only reason I'm taking the time to write this review is to spare another woman the wasted time and money I spent. No wonder we box color and go to Supercuts! Because in both cases while the results are subpar, at least they are reliable and reasonably priced. This salon is a one-woman operation. It's a cute little salon that affords her the ability to go to work, bring her dog and make a comfortable living for herself. She probably can easily afford rent with the prices she charges. I read the reviews before I went. Here's what you need to know: if you need a descent haircut, one that's not amazing but looks clean and healthy when she's done with your blowout, I guess go to her if you have a lot of money. Need color? Go elsewhere. Despite the salon's name, she is no expert on blondes. If you have brassy orange tones from using box color and want it lifted to a neutral blond, she will look at you like you have three heads. She only understands white ashy streaks with dark roots and makes excuses as to why you can't get what you want. She'll tell you results may vary because of your hair. She doesn't want to take the time to learn how she can reliably achieve color. I have never heard of "scalp color". Most stylists call it base color. The color she chose for my base did not blend into the color she chose for my foils. I wanted highlights like from the sun and foils just aren't natural, no matter how thin you make the selections. Doesn't anyone brush on highlights? That seems more controlled. I looked like I had two-weeks of root-- leaving the salon! Boo! Her base color also didn't cover my gray at my temples and in no way, shape or form blended in a natural way with the ashy white streaks she gave me. I looked older. No woman wants to look washed out and older. In short, she is not an artist. She didn't do anything with my eyebrows and I still have an orange hue to them from making the mistake of dying them with the box color. Would have been nice if she thought to make them the base color she gave me. She just doesn't have that level of attention to detail. She's phoning it in, comfortably cruising on her bag of tricks and left this customer feeling like it would be a better use of time to write this review than to go back to her to ask her to fix what I don't like. I just have zero confidence in her ability to remedy the situation. Instead of wasting my time complaining to her and having her look at me like I have three heads again, I'll just go to CVS, buy either Jolene bleach to blend in her foil highlights that abruptly end before my hairline does or break down and buy box color to do my base. I haven't been back to this business simply because I found better customer service with another lady at SOLA Salons MV that provides me with the same hair service. I've hesitated writing this YELP review for quite some time as well, because I don't wanna bad mouth a good business. But at the end of the day, I thought it was worth sharing my experience. I'm not a pro when it comes to knowing what needs to be done with my hair- I didn't go to school for it. I had misbooked my appointments online. I booked it to need more time than it really took and I didn't know what service I needed. And I guess that's my fault? This booking yourself online thing was new to me. I can tell it really upset Leslie for holding more time than needed because she told me she would be losing money and "wasn't charging me for the time." And I definitely felt bad making that mistake because I don't want her losing time/money because of MY booking error. But then I honestly started getting scared to book my own appointments LOL, so I tried out ANOTHER lady who does the whole "book yourself online" thing but, the difference is she confirms with me what I want to do with my hair to ensure I have enough time or don't take up too much time. I guess my expectation out of a hair stylist was someone to tell you what will look good on you, what can be done. I know it takes a lot to be on the same page with someone to get the "exact look you want" so stylists don't necessarily want the accountability of telling you this looks good on you, when you end up hating the "new look" you got. FYI I'm brunette, and I wanted the ashy look... which Leslie was able to accomplish. The MAIN reason I stopped going was because... 1. I thought it was ONLY me who felt this way about her coming across... "strict" or maybe "not as friendly?" I overlooked the fact that maybe my personality clashed with hers because she did my blonde baylage right. 2. BUT then I referred my aunt (who lives in Yorba Linda) to Leslie. She drove all the way to see her, the reason she only went once was because she felt like she was kinda rude. I guess my aunt (also brunette) wanted highlights, and when she told Leslie that she previously did some Japanese straightening thing-- she felt like Leslie was almost frustrated, like "this makes things harder on me to get the color right." So my aunt didn't get the good vibe from her... Bottom line, If you want someone that WILL do your hair RIGHT and make it BLONDE without damaging it, Leslie is your girl. If you want someone who is bubbly, with a flexible attitude to accept all of the craziness you've previously done to your hair without rolling her eyes... maybe pick someone else. :) I spent $200+ per visit when I came, I thought to myself... why am I spending this money fretting coming to this salon? After receiving the worst color job ever from an overpriced stylist in the city, I was on the hunt for a colorist whose MAIN specialty is BLONDE color. I have naturally dark brown hair that has been bleached blonde and need regular root touchups and toning to prevent that ugly "reddish" tint. Leslie gets it-- she corrected the bad lowlights in my hair, and put tons of uniform, cohesive highlights & lowlights all over, then did my base roots with a perfect medium ash so the effect was blonde, in multiple colors, but very natural. She's extremely skilled and right away you can tell that she knows what she's doing. Leslie was very sweet and easy to talk to, which helped rid the enormous anxiety I always feel when I go to a new salon. The pricing was very competitive, given the high quality of work she did, and she discounted my haircut price because she only trimmed front and sides which was very nice. I just treated My daughter (13) to her first big hair treatment. She asked for a little trim and blonde highlights along her long brown hair. Leslie is the best! I have been going to her for about a year and a half now. I usually see her every month for a hair cut and blonde highlights. Being blonde is hard! After loosing my long time stylist I had been lost. Tried going elsewhere but left unhappy and overcharged every time. Then, life happened. My hair became the least of my worries. Went on a 9 month hiatus. I found Leslie through some referrals from other local mamas. I had an initial consultation so she could see my grown out hair. Leslie is pretty nice and her salon is cute which is why I'm giving two stars. She also did a nice haircut. I came in on time as a first time client and waited 20 minutes until I could get into the chair. She was working on a lady before me who was obviously a long term client or a friend who stayed waiting for her foils to finish while my hair was done. She obnoxiously kept coming up and talking to Leslie while she was doing my hair and they were carrying on conversations about their kids, etc. like I wasn't even there. Kind of rude but this customer was obviously a chatty cathy so whatever, I could move past it. She also has a dog in the salon which I wasn't warned about. It was a sweet dog but I have an allergy to dogs so I stayed away from it but it would have been nice to have a warning. Finally, I was kind of bummed when I got home and really looked at my hair. The coloring didn't even go all the way to my scalp, I still looked like I had a couple weeks of grow out for all of my head and the coloring in other areas was very inconsistent. If I part my hair one one side there's about a 3 inch long chunk of my hair with about one inch roots and then other chunks that go (almost) to my scalp. I've been getting my hair highlighted for a long time and I realize people have different techniques but it felt like a waste of money to even have my hair colored as I still have roots showing. I met with Leslie for a color consult which was suppose to be a 30 minute consult. I must say Leslie was very unprofessional. the reason I met with her was to see if she could remove the yellow band from my double processed bleach blonde hair. I figured she could help me, because blondes are her specialty. my appointment was scheduled with her from 4:15- 4:45, when I got there she had a client in her chair working on her, which I though was extremely rude. she sat me down in a chair in the waiting area and told me to wait, then she came over to me looked at my hair touched it, she asked me what I wanted done, and I asked her if she could do anything to remove the yellow band from my bleached blonde hair, then she asked me if I was a double process blonde, which she should of known I told her I was, then she said she only works on double process blondes if their hair can handle it. how does she know if a person's hair can handle double process blonde until she does it on them to see if their hair breaks, and I do have very strong hair normally, but, sometimes my hair breaks and falls out from my thyroid disease not from the bleach, which I tried to explain to her. she said she would not work on my hair, because it was broken, and very fragile then she walked back to her station in the other room where her other client was while I was still talking to her a real rude thing to do. mind you this was all done in the waiting area. she never took me to her station, because she had the other client at her station, which was also very rude. she normally does not do double process blondes, which I thought was ludicrous since she is a color specialist for blondes. I mean her salon is named blonde girl studio. she only does double process blondes if the hair can handle it, that sounds like a cop out to me, I feel if a colorist specializes in blondes, then they should do all kinds of blondes. I feel she did not want to do my hair, because she does not have enough confidence in herself to do the job correctly, and I feel she did not want to do it, because it is too much work doing a double process blonde, so she makes up excuses, not to work on my hair. I get my hair has some breakage, and I can understand her using caution with my hair, but, on her website she has reviews of clients that said they went to her with damaged broken hair, and she fixed it, so if she can work on those clients hair with breakage, then why not on mine? the vibe I got off her is she just works on clients that she likes, and ones who she don't like she says she can't do their hair, and makes up excuses why she can't do their hair. the excuses she gave me was the hair breakage, and the fact that I am on thyroid medicine. she said that medication causes a yellow band on bleached hair. I told her that I believe the band was from a previous toner, or that maybe my hair was not lifted light enough, and that is why I have the band, but she was not hearing that, she said it was from my medication. I have never heard such crap in my entire life, and I have been bleaching my hair for over 15 years, and on thyroid meds for 11 years, and never once got a yellow band from my medication. I felt like Leslie did not give me the common courtesy. I have never had a hair stylist treat me in such a rude and unprofessional manor as Leslie did. another thing if she does not do double process blondes, then she should state that on her website. I am so happy that she refused to work on my hair, because I feel she would have not done a good job. I don't know for the life of me how she is still in business. how clients would want someone like her to work on their hair. read more

I was looking for a color specialist because I had been box coloring my hair for years. My hair was dull, dry and lifeless. I hadn't had my haircut for a year since the last time someone did a chop job on it. I scheduled a full highlight and haircut, hoping for the best after telling her what my goal was. I sat in Leslie's chair, she examined my hair and made recommendations. Her recommendations we're right on point with what I was asking for. I was confident the moment she started talking. This woman knows her stuff. 4 hours later I walked out of the salon with beautiful hair that had depth, dimension and shine. It was more than I ever expected. Not only is the hair color spectacular but the haircut is phenomenal as well. I showed her a picture of the haircut I wanted and she did exactly what the photo looked like. Every piece lays correctly. I have curly hair which is not an easy task. I could kick myself for not taking before and after photos. I highly recommend Leslie. Her prices are reasonable and she does a fantastic job. It's nice to see people that study in their field and exel at it. I actually got a compliment on my hair from a client the very next day and I have not had a compliment on my hair for years. She did a heck of a blowout on my hair as well. I went here a couple of times. Her blonde color is fantastic, but she doesn't do a great job at foiling. She missed my hairline both times, the second time I couldn't live with it and had to go back in for a fix. It was free, my babysitter was not. She doesn't do a lot of foils, I have a lot of hair and she took about 20 minutes foiling. A great job usually takes at least double that on my hair. Loreal in a box does a better job than her. She really has no idea what she is doing. I gave her a chance based on a couple of reviews here but big mistake....I should have read further. She was no particularly friendly and then didn't listen to what I was saying or just ignored it. In addition to doing not such a great color she mangled my hair. I told her it takes a long time to grow and to not cut layers into it or to but my bangs since they had just been trimmed. She did both. Now it will take at least half a year to grow to a reasonable looking cut. Left looking awful and very unhappy every day as I wait for it to grow and for emough time to pass to color again without destroying my hair. Stay away. read more

By the time I was in 7th grade, she started weaving (aka hi-lite) my hair. For all I knew, she was the best and no one could come close to her ability. Well... I came in tonight and was so excited and nervous at the same time. This was essentially this first salon experience where I was testing someone to see if they could match up to my mother. Leslie matched up alright and now I am super excited to have a salon to call my own! I can't wait to come back again. I was abandoned by my hairstylist of 18 years about a year ago, and I really hoped I would hear from her again,(she had heath issues and needed recovery), Last I heard was that she was spending time in France with family, so I thought there is the possibility she may never come back, so, it has been over a year since I had anything done to my hair, I just didn't know who to turn to, or who to trust.
