After switching to an EA (Enrolled Agent), we amended 3 years of taxes (I wish we could have amended more) and received refunds for overpayment of $36,726.98 from the government and $15,095 from the state of California ($51,821.98 total). I am very disappointed that these issues were blamed entirely on the system, with no acknowledgment or apology. She actually told me to take it as savings! I am talking about thousands of dollars that I overpaid the IRS. I knew something was wrong, and I asked her to triple-check them. She did, and she couldn't find the mistake until I called the IRS, and they told me I have 3 years to file an amendment and get my tax credit back.
