He offered ability for float down, a low interest rate with no fees, on the surface everything seemed great. When we tried to lock the next day, all of a sudden he said he had 2K in fees. At the time I didn't check other agents in his company so I agreed since 3.5% was such a low rate at the time (end of January 2015). I wish I had worked with another agent because when I did check, other agents gave me the same rate without the 2K fee. Stephen was condescending and argumentative, overall difficult to work with. While we were trying to close our refinance, he was on vacation and he didn't even notify me or let me know to contact someone else. Then when he picked up my call, he was exasperated that I called him during his vacation. Which is absurd because I was never told beforehand that he was leaving in the first place! Had I known, I would have been fine to follow up with someone else. Other gems during our conversations - "Oh I know our online site says your loan was submitted to the bank, but in fact it was not and we will need more time to hear back from the bank. Nobody uses the online site anyways", "Oh when I said that the loan was being submitted for approval what I REALLY meant is that it goes to our internal team first and not really to the bank yet." In the end, the refinance was still rejected. Overall a bad experience and a waste of time and energy. Luckily I was able to close with another bank instead at a low rate.

Not only did I get a great rate of 3.50% on a 30 year fixed, but there were lender credits paying for every single penny of the closing costs. I'm not sure how Stephen or this direct lender gets such good rates, because when shopping other lenders, most lenders were quoting me much higher rates of 4% or even higher ( due to the loan being a large Jumbo). Stephen was always available to take my calls. He was always very informative with a direct no non-sense approach. At one point during the process, there was a market- improvement, and without even having to ask him, even though my rate was locked, he requested a float-down on my behalf to an even lower rate. As a result of this good service, I have since referred 2 family members to Stephen, and they too now have loans in process at these great rates. This lender takes no short cuts on processing. Some of the documents they asked for did seem silly. I just sent them in without a fuss. I didn't mind having to jump though some hoops to save such a large amount of money over the life of the loan. PS: Even after closing, I got a nice box of Dancing Bear cookies shipped to me as a thank you closing gift from Stephen. I thought that was a nice touch.

I was a loyal State Farm customer for 7 years with zero complaints or claims. That ended this…read moremonth. My auto policy for (2) cars was renewed in September, and I was told my bill would be around $243. Imagine my surprise when $381.13 was pulled from my account on 9/24 through autopay. Biggest scam ever. Lesson learned, I will never trust that again. When I reached out, Miguel, an agent I've dealt with before, admitted he couldn't even explain where the extra $138 came from. I called 3 days in a row for answers, promised call backs that never happened. Every call to the office was initiated by ME and not them. On the final day, after being transferred through corporate, I spoke with Zach. Instead of helping, he told me to calm down, laughed at me, and kept repeating my name in a dismissive tone. Completely unprofessional and insulting. No surprise, Zach was no help at all. I went back to corporate and filed an official complaint. So let me get this straight: you allow your agents to laugh at loyal customers, ignore them, and fail to explain where $138 came from? Absolutely unacceptable. And by the way, save yourself the stress and don't trust the Drive Safe & Save device. That was pushed on me last year by none other than Zach, and it's just another scam. When I spoke to the woman from corporate, she didn't even see it on my bill. It's supposed to save you money but in my experience it increased the bill. She also mentioned that "I" supposedly made policy changes to a 2008 vehicle that I wasn't even driving but only kept insured to do the work. Why would I ever make changes to that? As of now, I've canceled all of my auto policies. Check out literally any other company and you will save money and avoid this kind of treatment. I'm reluctantly keeping my condo insurance for now, but I no longer trust State Farm. After this experience, I did research. Turns out I'm not alone. Longtime customers with decades of loyalty have their claims denied. Former employees even say go anywhere but here, they'll abuse you. When I told the corporate rep that requiring an agent is just a way to sell it as a "family feel," I called it what it is, total BS. We laughed, but honestly, there's nothing funny about my experience. If you do decide to go with State Farm, research the agents carefully, but don't be fooled--there's a snake everywhere. And if you end up here and are unhappy, know that you can switch agents. Call corporate, they will actually assist you and do more than the local office ever has. Here's your warning: R U N!
