I requested a half updo and overall, it was ok. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it-i didn't walk out feeling like it was the best hairstyle I've ever had. The gal was nice and got the back of my hair looking like the pic but the front was not flattering at all. My front layers laid flat with no life and looked out of place. I'm not sure what the time limit is but I felt rushed out and didn't have an opportunity to take my time in trying to maneuver things around. Small but mighty. You'd miss this completely if you weren't looking for it but boy does this place pack a punch. I booked a blow out and blondafix treatment in advance. They had Sarah help me that day. Sarah is fantastic and a whiz with a blow dryer. I have never gotten a blow out that looked so impeccable and she didn't even touch my curls up with a flat iron. I looked like the bomb dot com. The booking was easy to do through the website but just be mindful the location can be busy depending on the day. Book in advance if you know when you need it for say a special event. My positive experience here put me on blow outs for good. I've never had this and when my GF came to town, we decided to treat ourselves. I got the BLOW OUT + DEEP CONDITIONING + Head Massage. The girl was very lovely and didn't force a conversation. The head massage was lovely and I wish it was longer. Its a little awkward to get to all areas of the head when you have your head over the sink but it felt so nice. The deep conditioning was excellent. My hair looks so shinny and beautiful. It feels so luxurious. I decided to get waves and a braid (an extra $10). The waves looked beautiful and I couldn't believe how fast it was. My GF had the same look but I preferred her waves over mine. I had this done at 9 am but by 4, the waves were pretty flat. A nice treat and a fun experience, but for $90, I don't know how often I would do this! read more

Went there to prepare for a family wedding to get my hair done very early morning,e with massage and also make up. Left with my hair fried, 10min job on a make up which I paid much more for, and never got my hair massage. My hair was burnt from using a straightener to curl my hair, which I have asked multiple times not to do as I have fine hair. My curls lasted a good 45min then fell flat like burnt noodles. My families wedding photos are ruined forever and the experience of the morning was absolutely horrific. The biggest money waister! Many girls are not experienced. Book yourself a proper salon with professionals, this place lacks quality and your hair will smell burnt after your first wash at home. Blo spends more money on advertisements and not enough on training their staff how to blow dry properly, or curl hair. Don't bother looking at the little book they give you to pick a hair style, because they glance at it and do what they want, which is rip your hair and burn it. If your going to a very special event, I beg you don't let this place ruin you special day! read more

Booking was a breeze, cute place bustling with people getting their hair done! Loved how bright and energetic it was in there. I came in for a blow out with curls for a bridal shower I was attending and unfortunately the curls didn't last more than two hours before falling completely straight, like stick straight. I don't know that any hair spray was used at all, they only used one spray can and I think it was heat protector. Oh well. I would still maybe come back to try just a wash/dry with someone else, I don't think the person who did my hair cared at all how it held up. I love the concept of a blow dry bar where you can get pretty much any kind of hairstyle you want done. However, in the half dozen times I have been here, there has been a real lack of consistency. Sometimes the staff at the front desk have been friendly and welcoming, others aloof and rude. Once I had the best blow-out of my life that lasted for days, and another time I had a blow-out that didn't last more than several hours. If every experience has been life my best one, they would get five stars. But I never know what I am going to get when I come here, so I don't go anymore. I think a big reason for the inconsistency has been the different levels of experience of the stylists, and what seems a fairly high employee turnover rate. Some stylists are awesome and really understand my hair and know how to tame it, while others have said they understand, but clearly they didn't. I don't really intend to return, but I would in a pinch. read more

I experienced severe hair loss after my recent appointment here in June. I asked the stylist 3-4 separate times to stop yanking on my hair, he was pulling so hard that my head kept snapping back, over and over and over. I kept asking him to stop and he just kept apologizing and pulling just as hard if not harder. Giant clumps of hair were being pulled out of my head...And my scalp is still trying to recover. Very disappointed. A good stylist knows that breakage happens when you don't use a air concentrator nozzle, and using a high heat setting on fine hair leads to over drying. Careful when making a booking - you can easily be charged a $25 cancelation fee through their "text bot". I had to cancel my appointment (with 48 hours notice) I hit "R" for 'reschedule" rather than C for cancel - which means they don't cancel the appt and you get charged. There is no mention of the $25 fee on the text bot when you click "R". When I called they said "it's our policy". I don't mind being charged a fee for a no-show, or being late, but cancelling 48 hours in advance feels reasonable to me to not pay a fee. Their "bot" could have been clear "if you do not re-schedule you will pay a $25 fee / or would you like to re-schedule or cancel? Too bad, I was looking forward to going in on my reschedule appt. not now. read more

extremely disappointed at the standard of customer service. i have been a loyal customer with a membership for close to two years now and unfortunately recently i had to cancel an appointment at the last minute due to falling ill. I understand that there are systems in place and businesses need to make money too, but I was charged an exorbitant cancellation fee, when I said I would rather just come in then and proceed with the appointment as I do not want pay a cancellation fee, I was refused service because I am ill. Please help me understand how this works, a person cannot determine when they are going to fall sick, I understand charging a fee under any other circumstances, but you also need to have some empathy and understand that someone didn't choose to be sick and have the sense to look beyond regular protocol and be able to be gracious and make decisions on a case by case basis. extremely extremely disappointing. will be discontinuing my membership. sorry to say that you guys have just lost an extremely loyal customer who has also recommended your salon to other people. very sad. read more

This is my go-to place for great blowouts, but the last time I went was particularly awesome. Beatrice did my blowout last time and it was nothing short of amazing. She put my hair up in clips so that I could open them when it was time to go out and when I did that, my hair was shiny and bouncy all night. (tip: bring your own clips because they charge $5 unless you're willing to come back and return them once you're done using them). Well.... I hate to rain on the parade but I had a terrible experience at Blo, Yaletown. I could go on with all kinds of witty jokes here but I won't waste your time. Here's the juicy story: I walked in on a whim on a Friday night. The receptionist went to ask about availability and to my surprise, they could take me at that time. She led me to my seat and asked what I would like done (no one showed me a sample book!). Since it was a special occasion (My Birthday) I asked for a Marilyn Monroe style - which should leave nothing to the imagination since they have a 6ft tall picture of her on the wall. The receptionist gets busy fussing with my hair - weird, you are a receptionist and a stylist? No comment, just a smile. I expect to go to the sink but she starts curling my hair with a flatiron and spraying hairspray everywhere and back-combing my hair into a beehive. I stop her and explain again what I want. After 10 minutes of this going nowhere (I am trying to be patient) I instruct for the 3rd time what I would like and point to the huge picture on the wall. Another 5 minutes goes by she disappears to go talk to another 'stylist'. I can see the other girl had just finished up with someone else. She comes over and quickly takes over my now rats nest hair while space cadet stands and gawks over her shoulder. I realize the receptionist is not a double agent but just a receptionist. They actually took a booking just to make that extra $30 when there wasn't a qualified person to do my hair. The 'actual' stylists puts a few curls in my hair, sprays the shit out of it and they send me off. When I get home 15 minutes later, my back combed mess has lost all of its curl and looks like a sad wig. In just thirty minutes Blo stylists work their magic and transform you from a stylish vixen with an unruly mane into a sweet darling with a fantastic head-turning coif. Their set menu from which to choose your 'do and has all sorts of different styles - from "Holly wood" (think sexy curls), to poker straight, to a "Bardot updo" and all in a short (30 minute-ish) visit. AND (the icing on the cake) for those bad days/pre-partying ways, Blo carries a special occasions license so feel free to bring a bottle of wine, champagne, or whatever your alcoholic choice in beverage may be to enjoy while being made up. I can't rave enough about this place! I go here every time I have a special event to dress up for, or for a quick pampering escape. It's also nice to take a girlfriend along so we can catch up over a good gossip in the time it takes to be made up. But a tip from a local: make an appointment if you know what time you would like to go. This is a review for the Four Seasons location. The only thing I really liked was the male receptionist who helped me out when making the appointment; very helpful, kind, answered all my questions with detail. I saw one stylist who was finishing up a great looking blow out so I made an appointment with confidence. The actual appointment itself was disappointing. My stylist was telling me about how she actually went to school to do makeup and doesn't really want to do hair but did the training program anyway. This kind of worried me - how much work are you going to put into something you don't really want to do? She tugged a lot on my hair - it really hurt! However, I didn't speak up so that was my fault. Finally, she sprayed hair spray on my hair (and all over my face) and guaranteed that my hair would stay the entire day as long as I didn't touch it for 10 minutes while it set. I followed her instruction yet it was deflated and lost most of its curls within the hour and I was finding small sections that she missed during the appointment. My initial visit making the appointment makes me believe that great service is possible at this location. However, unless I get a referral for stylist from someone, I most likely will not be back. read more

I had the most horrific experience here. I wanted my hair done in a cute updo for my birthday à la Brigitte Bardot, and the girl doing my hair teased and backcombed it way too much and just kept loading on the hairspray and added so many bobby pins it took forever to get them all out. When it was done, my hair looked awful. I looked like I was starring in the movie Coneheads. When I got home, I took out some of the pins and fixed my hair myself, and I looked more Real Housewives of Vancouver, which was not really that much of an improvement, but anything was better than the cone head (even if I looked like I was a Republican going to a charity fundraiser. So not me). Then it didn't end there. My hair was so screwed up after and kept getting tangled in knots. One knot got so bad, I had to make a separate appointment at the hair salon just for them to detangle my hair. My hair stylist was appalled and worried my hair was ruined. Some of my friends have gone to Blo and had really good experiences - usually if they have their hair straightened or just curled. If I ever went again, I don't think I'd let them try an updo. I also may have just happened to have a bad stylist, but I think I'm traumatized to step in there again. read more

I simply booked online (and got a same-day appointment), picked a style from the menu (OK, the sketches of the hairdos could possibly be more helpful and perhaps show variations on medium to long hair lengths), sat down and read trashy magazines (flipping dramatically each time I encountered those f$$$ing Kardashian people), and then walked out around 45 minutes later with a Hollywood blowout that had so much wavy volume, my hair felt like it was floating. It sure beat the panties out of wrestling with my blowdryer and brush and mousse trying desperately to achieve something that would resemble a hairSTYLE. I am envious of girls who get up every morning and curl or straighten their hair. I lack the talent and the patience, so I turn to Blo when I need great hair for special ocassions. Blo is fast, friendly and well-priced (considering most hairstylists charge at least the same, if not more, for a blow-out). I don't think they're actual certified hairstylist, but their blowouts are as good, if not better than ones I've received from a hair salon. The only issue I think Blo may have is that if you are not vocal and specific as to the style you want, you may butt-heads with your stylist or end up with something completely different than what you envisioned. A friend who joined me at Blo once came out with a 1990s prom-do (i.e. ringlets..*shudder*), and had to re-do her hair at home. Make sure to communicate the style you want. read more

Depending on what you are doing, it takes longer, I have done some complicated up-do with a lot of pins in my hair, still a pleasant experience. She was really friendly and efficient. I was out of there in no time! The space is modern but on the cozy side. So I didn't get the "pampering" experience. Although the first Blo Dry Bar has been open since 2007, it's taken me until now to experience my first Blo job. I had an event to attend to at the Hastings Racecourse that required my Sunday best with pearls, mesh Cocoesque hat and a perfectly primped and curled coif. Blo was there to the rescue and my stylist Chris whipped me up into shape in about 30 minutes. With no scissors (cutting is a no no) and no color (also a no no), for about $30 you get washed and blown with styles like, 'Executive Sweet', 'Bardot Updo', and 'Red Carpet'. You'll look perfect for that special day, important meeting or hot date. Now you East Coasters can enjoy what we have as Blo opens their first location in Toronto on Yonge Street. Both times I have to admit I picked variations on the blo menu, but they were totally cool about it. Considering that it's a get-in-get-out type of experience they were actually very attentive to my experience. I only wish I lived closer to one so I could get them done all the time! Fabulous concept that's perfect for Yaletown. As someone who rarely does anything with her hair, save slipping in a fancy headband once and awhile, Blo always succeeds in making me feel like a superstar in exactly the time they advertise, about 30-45min. I also appreciate that these blow outs are perfectly affordable. Great for special occasions. They're very big (pun intended) on backcombing, and as a customer, insist on letting them know immediately if something's not going the way you look. Otherwise you could have a hot mess beehive on your hands. Because of the limited time, communication is key. Otherwise, the service is attentive, I've been to Blo a handful of times and I even though I'm aware of their specific styles, I've actually usually just sat down and told them what I wanted, and they go ahead with it. Very accommodating. I think the only thing that would make this place better, is if they offered a make-up service for a similar price ($35). That way you could get a whole make-over package for under $100. read more

I wanted voluminous curls but I barely even got that.. the lady that helped me couldn't even curl my hair with a round brush, after she asked if I wanted to use a hair curler and I said yes because my hair BARELY had any body or curl after the "blow out", after 30 minutes my hair was completely flat.
