During the course, they teach you the TM technique, how to do it correctly, etc. This is the only TM center in Houston and it's inside the loop. They have a parking lot and they share the space with several other businesses. It's not the nicest building but it does the job. My instructor, Paula, and her husband were both great. At one point you do hear the crashing sounds of a gong or horn (sorry first time and don't know the terminology) that were a little too loud that is what startled me and I was not able to go back into the concentration. Only downfall was they forgot to give me my blanket to cover up with so I was freezing the entire time. It's not a place you can raise your hand or yell out. I appreciate they do provide lockers, that you can personalize during your visit, with included phone chargers, clean bathrooms and a selection of warm teas.

I arrived at 1pm and there were several other folks there for the event. After signing in at the desk, the staff walked me over to the locker and showed me where to keep my things. After everyone arrived, one of the ladies gave us an intro to meditation and then we watched a 7 min video about the science behind mindfulness and meditation. The video needs to be updated as there was a lack of diversity (e.g, age, race, etc.) and that turned me off slightly. After the video, we were walked into the room, asked to grab a blanket and got into the hammock for the 45 minute sound bath and meditation. I serve on a board for an organization that's focused on mindfulness but this was my first time participating in a full on practice. It was very calming and allowed me to really get centered. The time went by fast and our instructor set the right pace. They offer a free session for first timers so I will be taking advantage of that. The studio is very clean, and they offered tea and other refreshments. But most importantly, there's plenty of parking.

However, the universe brought me an opportunity to connect with Simply Reiki's, massage therapist, Angelica Torres, for a Sunday morning appointment. I had never experienced a Reiki treatment with massage therapy (I added the hot stones + aromatherapy) and OMG it was surreal! It was the quiet, physical healing that I needed in that moment of sitting with utter chaos in my nervous system. What also blew my mind was Angelica's intuitive gifts. I was not expecting that, but she read me like a book before she even laid hands on me, and without me telling her one word about what I was going through. Her presence was gentle, grounded, and comforting like a soothing balm. Her energy, and her words were incredibly powerful and validating and exactly what I needed to hear that day. (Bonus she spoke to me in Spanish!) She's a true energy worker and worth every penny. I highly recommend Angelica for the massage + reiki treatments. You will be glad you did. I loved it so much that I have attended several of these in the past few years. When i moved to Houston I inquired about the Art of Living workshops and have been a regular attendee since 2009. I find these workshops to really help me remain happy inspite of my stressful work life. I work as an engineer and I often have to put up with deadline submissions and unwilling clients. Prior to attending these workshops I used to get tensed easily but after learning breathing techniques taught here I feel much more relaxed and at ease. Absolutely love coming here!

We conversed about why I was there and her vibe was easy and honest: like talking to a wide friend. She checked my chakras then went to work. The overall experience was comfortable and clarifying. I left and was feeling better for days after. Often time we store energy in our bodies when stressed, triggered, or traumatized which causes blockage. I'm thankful for her healing work in releasing areas of blockage yet, getting to know me first. I went from being confused and not knowing which way to go in life to finally feeling at home. I did not know what to expect when I attended her class, but her class was amazing and comforting. I found a lot of peace and so many things finally made sense to me. For once I did not feel CRAZY, and felt peace. The connection and how much attention and detail she puts on everything was amazing. She cares dearly about her students and is amazing at explaining everything. Her energy is awesome and she is so kind. She checks up on us and ensures that we are receiving everything we need in order to grow. Ms. Aliya is a wonderful teacher. Reiki has also made a huge huge change in my life. I have overcame Anxiety after months of not being able to leave my house, better yet my room or even work a normal job. I'm able to go out & not allow my anxiety to overcome me, and actually have an enjoyable time. The fear that once resided in me which had me stuck and crying in my bed has left! I used to go out and would begin panicking, crying, & shaking having to ask ask my boyfriend if we could go back home immediately. At days it comes but it isn't as intense as it was before, literally went from a huge boulders of fear to a grain of salt that i can flick away immediately with affirmations or meditation & go on and have a good time and I'm very thankful. I love myself so much more now, I'm able to see my beauty and understand my pains. I used to hate what I saw in the mirror, and it's amazing because even though I'm at my highest weight I love myself so much more than I did before. I say this because growing up, I always wanted to look a certain way, skinny, kind of how society expects woman to look so body image issues was always a huge huge thing for me. Now I'm able to look at myself and love me unconditionally! The pain that resided in me, that cause me to be sad and cry every single day, the pain that made me not want to find joy in life, the pain that caused sleepless nights combined with the fear and anxiety, the pain that made me hate the world and our divine, the pain that caused me to hate myself and the pain that made me depend on smoking. That pain, with Reiki I overcame it and it was transformed into love and light and UNDERSTANDING... that right there has been beautiful to understand my pains. After smoking for 6 years ... I gave it up, never in the past 6 years I would have ever done that! But I have finally felt safe too. Thanks to Reiki I haven't smoked and I finally choose to be free from it because it no longer has a hold of me. A huge step for me! and I'm thankful. Because even though I didn't know it & smoking brought me down low, & instead of being a help like I thought it was... Smoking was ruining me slowly & owning me. Thanks to Reiki I've found peace and understanding in so many things. I'm overcoming fear of living, im overcoming anxiety and sadness. Understanding my pain and learning to love myself. Taking the course after so many times of allowing my fear to stop me has been a huge step, & I'm extremely grateful for the experience & thankful for the peace & love and light that has came with Reiki. hope you made it this far and if you did ' things can get better! By this time I'm exhausted there is no one to answer my inquiries about the services provided - as all reiki healing practitioners are different. So reluctantly I sent a text, stating I had some questions regarding the reiki healing session and desired to speak with someone before hand. A day later I received a text that the Practitioner had received my details, meditated to see if they could help me. After meditation she was told she could not help me. That was that. The delivery of the text was polite but I was left wondering how service is rendered based on a text and meditation. Perhaps it wasn't a good fit or something else. Idk but when asked if they had any recommendations, it was no dear. Really?! Okay then. Yea no, given my experience with Reiki healing and practitioners I found this to be unprofessional process and slightly off-putting.
