They said they have been told by the head office if they remove even one hair you will be charged for the entire area. They call themselves "the pioneer of walk-in brow bars"...and despite the slighty overdramatic declaration, they quite possibly are. After years of overplucked and/or misshapened brows, I decided to surrender to the experts. But these were no ordinary estheticians, they were brow specialists. After fighting my way through the chaos of Selfridges beauty floor, I found Blink Brow Bar, a strangely open space with reclining chairs and attentive staff. Luckily I made a reservation (it gets quite busy during peak hours) and was quickly seated for what was about to be an incredibly painful life-altering beauty experience. The lovely ladies at Blink Brow Bar use a traditional Indian technicque called threading, where a string of cotton thread is twisted around the hairs, removing them from their follicle. Your eyes will water, your palms will sweat and be prepared for puffy red blotches of skin immediately after the treatment - but it is well worth the suffering. It is amazing how much one's face can open up (and eyes can sparkle) with a good ol' threading. My only qualm about Blink is the fact that you are open to spectators during the treatment. Walking around Selfridges with post-thread pink eyebrows is humiliating enough, so to be clearly visible to shoppers while "in the chair" as well makes the experience a tad uncomfortable. If you are new to the world of threading, let me break it down for you with some friendly and fun notes about threading. Basically, it involves a string that the expert (and they really are) threaders loop around each hair and pull (instead of plucking) away from your face. Whilst they are doing this, they are miraculously shaping your eyebrows into a natural and trés groomed shape. The only pain for me was, if you're a first timer or need to reshape your brows, you have to let them grow so that the threaders have more to work with (this takes longer than you think!) I feared I may have resembled Oscar the Grouch for a bit. Threading, according to many, is the only way to go when it comes to brow shaping. Not only is it better for your skin (no tugging to create wrinkles like plucking or waxing, so they say) but also no artificial products (just the string). I was rather dubious as I have seen some ladies in department stores having their eyebrows done smack bang in the middle of the floor. Not very discreet really given my Oscar status. However, I had mine done at Harvey Nichols, as I figured it might be calmer and quieter and it was. Plus the brow bar was located in a corner. Much nicer! The staff were really friendly, organised and did an amazing job reshaping my eyebrows. I confess, I have a high pain threshold, but my eyes did water! However, it was totally worth it and over really quickly. And threading is not just for women, I would recommend boys give it a go too, no one likes a monobrow or caterpillars. read more

I have a family wedding coming up and wanted to treat myself to a great threading experience. Instead, I was left really disappointed. Despite turning up a couple of minutes before my appointment, I had to wait at least ten minutes to be seen. Although the lady who threaded my eyebrows was very friendly, the threading itself is not of a high quality. One eyebrow is about 2mm wider than the other, which is really noticeable to me. There are also stray hairs that she hasn't caught. I wasn't able to look properly in the mirror when I was in the chair - I had a handheld mirror thrust in my face and didn't have any opportunity to look properly at the results before being rushed out of the area. I have had to return home and tweeze them to match, and neaten them up. The only vaguely enjoyable part was the 60 second massage afterwards. Despite my attempts, they still don't look very good. I could have had a better result paying £2.50 on the local high street instead of travelling for an hour to visit Selfridges. I am so disappointed and will not be revisiting. read more

I visited the Selfriges branch this afternoon. The whole place was a mad house!! Busy busy busy!! You can really tell everyone is in holiday mode =) They girls were very nice and the young lady who took care of me explained what she was going to do. I informed her that I would like to keep the thickness and only needed to get them evened out and give them a bit of shape. She agreed. I had purposely let my eyebrows grow for two weeks in order to get them properly shaped. I didn't have that much hair growing so it was more of maintainability I guess. When the girl was done, I have to say it was OK but not super wow. I had to explain to her what I was after once again. There seemed to be a communication issue as she was telling me that she would thin my eyebrows if she did what I was asking and kept pointing to the top part of my eyebrow. I on the other hand was pointing at the bottom portion of the eyebrow (eyelid) telling her that she had left it a bit to straight with no curve... After explaining it to her in different ways she was finally able to understand what I was asking for. Although a bit frustrating due to the language/communication barrier I came out happy with beautifully shaped eyebrows. Was it worth £17... not exactly. Will I go back? Maybe. I have seen threading advertised at several salons close to where I live (WC) between £9 - £12 soooooo I might just give it a go. This place is extremely busy because it's inside Selfridges and Co, a busy, high end department store in London. Luckily I was able to squeeze in an appointment during my jog, but they couldn't take me in right away. I highly advice an appointment ahead of time. Everyone was great, and professional. The staff are professional and have an extreme attention to detail. Before the eyebrow threading, she gave me a brief consult and offered advice on how to get the left to match the right! I went to the store at Harvey Nichols with no appointment on a Sunday and they took me right away. It was almost twice as much as I'm used to paying in the US, but well worth it. They also have a frequent threading card (6th is free). I'll certainly be putting that to use. read more

I visited the Blink eyebrow bar in Selfridges. They offer a good service; it's great the way you can just nip in for a fast fix when you're out and about shopping. However, I can't help thinking that £14 is a lot of cash for something that takes five minutes. The ladies are very friendly, but can be a bit trigger happy with the plucking, and you can come out with the 'surprised' look. If you're concerned, it might be worth asking them just to do the bottom of the brows, rather than the top too, or it can look a bit slapper-ry. I'd love to know if anyones knows of any cheaper threading places out there. read more

You might think paying £19 for an eyebrow shape is ridiculous but I've never been anywhere better!! I always get compliments for my brows. You can trust that it is super clean and the ladies are super friendly. Blink + Go: I had 'natural' eyelashes added four days before my holiday. Nearly half had fallen off by the next evening, despite avoiding steam and oils near my face as I was instructed. I returned to shop where they reattached the missing lashes and off I went on holiday. By day five of my holiday, three quarters of them had fallen off. They are no way suitable for a sun holiday if you plan to use sun tan cream and swim. I had to avoid putting cream near my eyes incase they fell off and when swimming they prevent you rubbing your eyes when water gets in them and if you accidently turn in your sleep, they poke you in the eye, even though I was told they soften up after a couple of days. All in all, unpractical for a typical summer holiday, good for a wedding/occasion. read more

Selfridges brow bar is fine- if you can get in. But the brow stylists are uneven across the chain. Went to the House of Fraser branch last week and ended up with uneven brows, and with too much taken off the top and not enough from underneath, so my eyes look heavy and hooded.... I now have to wait months for my brows to grow back so they can be properly styled somewhere else. read more

The best place for threading and not only! I have been doing eye lashes perm for about 5 years there and only with a girl called Vasha P. Believe me, i tried with others, after an hour session it didn't look as curly and perfect as it looks after Vasha P. I have straight eye lashes and no eye lash curler can help. After the perm i have no prob for 2 - 3 months, which saves time in a morning when getting ready. Doing it 3-4 times a year won't harm your eye lashes especially if you look after them and use different oils to make it grow faster and thicker. Thank you Vasha P at Selfridges Blink Bar! read more

Very poorly trained staff, I ended up with about 30% of my eye brow been removed, luckily I protested against doing the same to the other side. They are in such a rush that they can't really look at you and listen. It will now take 2-3 months to grow it again - totally ugly! Please note this is a review of the Blink Brow Bar in the Bluebird, Kings Road. Being new to eyebrow threading (or any eyebrow treatments for that matter, eek!) I was slightly nervous to give it a go but I was so desperately in need my brows 'doing' after repeated attempts to salvage them myself that I decided to bite the bullet. After doing extended research and reading multiple reviews I settled on Blink. All reviews seem to be pretty constant and people seemed happy with results. I decided on Blink at the Bluebird as it was closer to me and less likely to be rammed like the Harvey Nichols one (I was going at the weekend as couldn't do in the week) I made an appointment online which unfortunately when I arrived had been written down for the next day by accident, still the lady at Blink managed to fit me in, apologized and all was fine. Overall I was very happy with the experience and results. The lady suggested, since I hadn't had anything done like this before that she would 'equal' up my eyebrows (as they were wonky!) and also just neaten them up. Even though there wasn't any serious shaping going on from what she did made the world of difference!! They are now equal and thicker which was amazing because I was terrified of coming out with no eye brows (my boyfriend was also very worried too especially since he thought I was getting my brows 'shredded' haha) I don't have much to compare to in terms of price but I do think £17 is a little expensive for what they do and also how long it takes (it barely took long at all) but it's not something I will be doing regularly so in my mind it was worth it. Overall I was very happy with the experience at Blink, Bluebird and would definitely go back. I enjoyed it as it wasn't busy at all there and I could relax without feeling like I was being watched like in some of the big shopping centers. I hope to go back if I need them doing again or if I require a more defined brow shape. read more

I am pretty satisfied with the brows I got - it was first time I had them done by a professional. They are finally symmetrical, but they are not amazing. I think the standard 'idea' of how brows should be shaped based on those nose-eyecorner, nose-iris lines ect aren't so good because many times arched brows suit better, open eyes, make them look larger, but not all brow stylists are inventive and talented enough to do something really special with the brows. They are usually all in pretty similar shape, but sometimes just a different brow shape would change a lot in one's face. So you will get nicely shaped brows, regular, but nothing extraordinary. I just expected a bit more, because I think slightly arched brows suit me more. Still I am really satisfied with the procedure: it was fast, the brows look good (but not great), the eyebrow shaping with pencil was horrible ( I have triangle shaped face, narrow jaw, i looked awkward) but I just quickly removed my makeup and forgot about it).
