I started shopping at Dick Blick's back in Omaha. Loved it. Was happy to find it here in St. Louis. I'm sure there are other art stores, but I don't need to look around. Blick's has pro-level gear for any artist. The aisles are well marked, and each section is stocked with most major brands. Friendly-not-pushy staff know a thing or two. Good gear costs money, so don't be shocked by the prices--but you can do some damage on a patient budget. Hanley is busy, so keep your eyes open and slowwww into the petite parking lot. read more

Ended up with a watercolor paint set, acrylic paints, fridge magnets, canvasses. Our haul was under $100 which is crazy. We loved our visit and can't wait to comeback. Blick is a chain. Its lone local competitor has talked negatively about it on social media. I went to the competitor and had a mehhhhhh experience, so I went to Blick on my way home. Should have started with Blick! Blick is in a walkable area (the Delmar Loop). It is large in space and huge in inventory. It was full of young people who were excited about art... Darting all over like it was school supply shopping day. Very happy! The staff showed me to everything I mentioned and gave additional info on where to find related items. Then they disappeared to help others so I could do my thing. They have plenty of test papers around so you can get to know pens before you select some. It's well-organized, but it doesn't feel totally manicured. Very much an artist's shop IMO. I spent very little money... This time. I plan to return the next time I want to try out some pens. read more

I wish I knew about this art supplier sooner. The staff was knowledgeable and was able to help me find what I was looking for as an amateur artist. It's easy to spend an arm and a leg here but that's partly why the "starving artist" saying exists. I'll definitely be coming back! Deep in the bottom of my heart, mine and my parents' experience was so much fun and interestingly if I were to find the best suitable papers for Copic marker. We went to the Blick materials in the summer of 2016 since Florissant is my favorite birth town-alike vacation. I chose Transotype Bleedproof Marker and the larger Canson Breedproof Marker Pad (transparent) paper pads because I wanted to collect the best marker pads for my markers from Copic. Not only that, I wanted to try Copic markers whether or not these markers bleed through. As the result, they don't bleed through even transparent papers. I was almost excited to see that the male clerk was probably nicer than another African-American customer. The male clerk convinces me and my parents to head toward the aisle filled with best marker papers. On the other hand, the African-American customer acted like he rapped and/or mumbled about stuff, only if I made the little eye contact. Luckily, I and my parents stayed away from him. Despite the only worry, we had so much fun in there when I want to draw accurate OEL manga characters on my own. I highly recommend this store because the service was very kind to have us access to the best papers for Copic markers. However, if you're like me, be careful with other customers than you, your friends, and your families for safety. read more

I used to come to Blicks waaaay back during high school and college to purchase all of my art supplies. I recently came back to buy a new portfolio (my old one finally gave out after 20 years :[ ) and I felt like a kid in a candy store. :] The staff didn't hesitate to welcome me in and ask if there was anything they could assist me with. When I explained what I was looking for, they immediately walked me towards the back of the store where I could take my time and look through the different sizes and varieties of portfolios. After making my selection, I took some time to look around. The store was impeccable and neatly organized. It actually wasn't very difficult to find your way through the store and I really appreciated the un-cluttered feel. The open space helped me see everything they had in stock. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the products they offer. I would definitely recommend Blick Art Materials for anyone looking for art supplies. :] read more

This is a great place for professional artists to find supplies. Lots of paint options and even dry pigments. The parking can be difficult because it's on the Delmar loop. Also, they don't match the prices from the big main website for Blick which is a bummer. Overall great store with lots of medium options! read more

Ok, so this is a massive big box art store in one of the biggest draws in STL, the Delmar Loop... However, if you got some cash to blow frivolously I recommend selecting from the miniature animal bin. 20 different little figures of my favorite animals and like 28dollars later I had a stable. They have a massive selection of awesome frames for all your art needs, never ending selection of anything you might want to buy to turn the job back into a hobby. Sure beats ordering out of the catalog from NEcC! read more

Well stocked store!! I went in looking for stationary gear... which I found, but I also saw so many other great things! They have just about anything you may want regarding drawing, sketch, painting, gels, ceramics, wrapping, printing... only thing I couldn't find was wax for melting (sealing letters). I was exploring the Loop and I found this gem. They had a HUGE shop and there was every art supply imaginable. It was clean and fairly busy. They played nice music and had many employees all over that could help you. They had things I had never heard of before. Just from visiting, I feel like I am now interested in all these concepts and styles of art I've seen here today. If you have a project or something else where you need a lot of different art supplies, this is a great place to go plus it supports our local economy. In the end, we walked out of this shop with more than we expected, and we had a nice time! (: read more

Great art store on the loop, but I occasionally found that they didn't always have things I needed for my projects. Honestly thought, they were for mostly really specialized projects and it was just maybe one random item for photography class I really had trouble with. They have a large selection and the staff are great at recommending just the right material. They do have a few workshop you can check out too if you're interested! The majority of their supplies are high end, high quality art supplies. They seem competitively priced for the quality. But, yes this place is a bit pricey due to their special niche. The staff of the framing and printing department were amazing! They took the time to print copies of my artwork from a digital photograph perfectly. They even got the texture of the materials as well as the color perfectly copied. I appreciated the reasonable pricing and helpfulness of the staff. Yay art supplies stores are fun! But they generally serve little use to me. I'm more of a visionary than an "artist." Some might say, my handwriting looks like a 5th grader's. But that doesn't mean I don't know how to color in the lines! I came here to pick up some fancy colored pencils so I can enjoy the multiple adult coloring books my girlfriend recently acquired. The store itself is a good size for The Loop. They have everything you'd need but at a premium price. The colored pencils were 50% off on sale, but still a bit cheaper online...without a sale. I'm all for paying a few dollars more to support brick and mortar, but some of the items were 1.5X-2X the price. The staff was friendly and helpful and the colored pencils do wonders for my trendy hobby. read more

I LOVE this art store. I've been ordering from the Blick website for a while now to satisfy my strange hoarding art material needs. :) I love how they randomly have workshop type things and let you try some of the materials for free. One time, they had paper and modgepodge out for coaster making. I spent so long there my boyfriend wandered away and came back and then wandered away again. Another time, they were screen printing blick bags and giving them out. :) I got a free mini sketchpad there once! :D Blick is also great because they sponsor cool things on the Loop. There was a sidewalk chalk art contest that they helped sponsor -- very cool and very community like. I wish they offered a range of products from cheap to expensive in store. Example: I like to paint, but I'm pretty sure I suck. No matter how much I pay for paint, it's going to look the same when I'm done with it. I've only been here once but my experience was fantastic! Before Christmas, I purchased a scuba diving package for my boyfriend as his gift - they merely sent me a confirmation e-mail of said purchase, which isn't really wanted I wanted to present to him... SO, I had driven by Blick's many times and decided to stop in and see what could be done. The staff member who assisted me was INCREDIBLY helpful - I explained that I would like to purchase some type of parchment paper to write up a "certificate" for the diving package. He helped me select the type of paper I was seeking and THEN, after I explained my handwriting is not exactly... "certificate" worthy, he, who has enviously beautiful handwriting, wrote out the entire certificate for me - just how I envisioned it! The paper cost me less than a dollar - so it was very nice to receive such personal service when I was spending so little in the store - I tipped the employee that helped me, which he reluctantly accepted. My gift ended up perfect - I wrapped a giant bow around it and it looked fun and unique Christmas morning - my boyfriend loved it. I often go here and do not find what I need, such as: range of fixatives, lightweight white tracing paper in rolls, glassine in rolls, Arches Cover in rolls, Somerset textured print paper. All stuff that most professional artists might use or you would want your students to use, nothing out of the ordinary. As an artist, I just wish I could really get everything I need here. It's more like a good store for basic students and hobby artists. read more
