All events mentioned occurred between October 30, 2018 and November 14, 2018…read more Blessing Hospital is a joke. They are supposed to be the best in the area... but they're not! I checked myself in for psychiatric help. The social worker in the ER named Sarah was terrible. She wanted to transfer me to a facility three hours away from this area. I was perfectly fine with being transferred but the only request I made was for her to ensure that I had a guaranteed way home. I didn't think this was too much to ask for. I didn't want to go to this facility, receive treatment and h buoyed away from anyone without a way to get home. I finally fell asleep and only got to sleep for 30 minutes before she woke me up to speak with the workers at the facility she wanted to transfer me to. The facility said they could not ensure that I would have a way home.. I told them I didn't want to go there if I didn't have a way home. The social worker named Sarah told me she was going to get me listed as involuntary admission and I could potentially be sent to a facility north of Chicago. I wasn't trying to fight her. I knew I needed psych help. That's why I checked myself in and I honestly didn't think I was being unreasonable by wanting a guaranteed way home. I suggested multiple facilities in Iowa and Missouri. Sarah informed me that she doesn't typically call those states. It would be much easier to find a way home if I'm only and hour and a half from home instead of three plus hours. Sarah refused to call anyone else and she told me that I would just wait at blessing until they discharged people from upstairs. I get it that they were at capacity but she did not handle the situation in a professional manner. I also understand that she's human and people have bad days, etc but there's no excuse for how she treated me while I was there. After a day and a half in an unventilated ER psych room I finally got to go upstairs and start receiving treatment. My experience once I got to the unit was okay. At the time of my hospitalization, I was expecting a child. The workers in the APS part of the psych unit constantly brought my unborn child up. One morning they woke me up at 5 a.m. and told me that I needed to let them draw blood because they were running tests. I was still half asleep and struggling to wake up. The nurse kept bringing my unborn child up. I asked her to stop doing so. I told her I was in the hospital to receive care for my psychiatric health and not for the health of my unborn child. SHE CONTINUED TO MENTION MY BABY NONSTOP. The last day of my stay in the psych ward was uneventful and I finally got to go home. Dr. Sanchez was wonderful. The next series of events are unrelated to the psychiatric visit but they also occurred at blessing hospital. Three days after I got out of the hospital I went to the emergency room for what I thought was an allergic reaction to latex. The female doctor named Ashley Martin did a pelvic exam on me with a metal speculum. She wasn't paying attention and rammed the device into the space between my vagina and rectum, which ripped it open. She then proceeded to put the speculum in the correct spot to do her examination. I asked her to stop shoving it in farther and she just rammed it in even more. They told me it was a yeast infection and sent me home with montistat 7. I returned two days later because the pain was out of control. I still couldn't sit or sleep in a bed. They gave me a shot of Rocephin, some antibiotics and something for pain. I told them I had an empty stomach and I knew from previous experience they taking hydrocodone on an empty stomach can (and usually does for me!) cause vomiting. I asked for something light so I could keep it down. They "forgot" to give me something to eat and I had to take the pain medication when they administered it. I started vomiting within 10-15 minutes and did so at least 3 times per hour for the next six hours. The only helpful people at this hospital are an RN named Eric and an NP named Kenton Snyder and, Dr. Sanchez. Stay away from blessing hospital if you can!

Then his all female staff banded together and told him I was abusive verbally to them and I had to be terminated. Huh? Funny. But the real kicker is that HE KNEW HE WAS GOING TO TERMINATE ME AND SIGNED THE LETTER...and waited and planned it to perfectly come on the eve of my SISTER'S WEDDING! AND RUINED IT FOR ME! I HAD TOLD HIM MANY TIMES THIS WAS COMING UP AND HE CONCIOUSLY DID ANSWER BACK so he was told but claims that I am making up stories and LIES ABOUT HIM. BLESSING HOSPITAL HAS CREATED SUCH A MONOPOLY IN THIS TOWN THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS BEHAVIOR UNJUSTIFIED! WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT BLESSING SYSTEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE BECOME TOO BIG TO DO ANY WRONG IN THIS TOWN WITH DIRE CONSEQUENCE.

From his office. I am so done with this Doctor, please take your loved one elsewhere!

I finally lost all faith in Dr. Duane Hanzel at the BWC and took my husband to an infectious disease doctor and an orthopedic surgeon in Iowa.  The infectious disease doctor advised that he must be admitted immediately because bone infections can only be treated with strong antibiotics administered by IV; over a two-year period, the BWC never knew he had a bone infection after the surgery to remove it so they never treated him for a bone infection.  According to the diagnostic testing, it appears that the bone infection moved from the great toe to the other side of the foot.  My husband ended up having a BELOW THE KNEE AMPUTATION due to the gross negligence of these doctors and the BWC when he only started out with a bone infection in his great toe.  You can't tell it from these photos but my husband could have been a foot model before he fell into the inept hands of the BWC.
