The items stocked here are not necessarily all vintage, some are though. And there is a good turnover of items, so there is something new to see each time you go. I have found some great items at an amazingly low cost, but you have to be willing to dig for them. As King O. pointed out the address is listed incorrectly. It's actually 1081 Flushing Ave.

It's a good spot to try if you have the time and patience to really sift through all of the racks. If you do find something you like, the prices are really fair. I've gotten a few random things here that I've ended up loving and wearing for a long time. Just be ready to take your time looking through everything and don't expect the rows of curated tees and jackets like at L Train next door. Still, worth it to check it out, especially if you're on a budget!

I think I'm in the minority here thinking Monk is a decent thrift store. I hate to be this person…read morebut I'll cop to getting skeeved out by used clothing stores because I've read too much about people getting hand foot mouth disease from those bins. Does everyone shop with rubber gloves on in these stores? I don't like the funk that a lot of thrift stores have either. HOWEVER I'm fully on board with not shopping fast fashion and buying second hand being a better alternative, so I'm trying to find a happy medium. At least Monk feels curated such that I don't feel like I have to dig too much before I find something cute. And I saw several cute items at this store. Yes, I usually do spend like $40+ on an item from here but that's less than I'd spend on a new item. I found a gorgeous mesh and beaded dress and a silk skirt that I still cherish from here. You may have to come back regularly to get lucky and find something you like, but I think they have a pretty wide selection of items. Lately I've opted to mostly rent my clothes so I still get the experience of having new clothes without buying new fast fashion but during the occasional thrift sojourn I'll stop in here to browse.

Casual, one of a kind, fancy, vintage, trendy, old trend pieces that make the experience worth the trip. I like to see enough selection to boost my imagination for what I can do with the pieces. The prices are decent here too, don't change. I'll be back. Bring cash if you wanna avoid that credit card fee.

The kids section is small but after milling through carefully I was able to find jeans from children's place and the GAP for $3 per pair. The jeans were in pristine condition and is perfect for a growing 6 year old. While perusing, I found a fantastic men's sweater for my husband to wear to work for $5. I also found a lounge sweater for myself in the clearance section for $2. There are no returns or exchanges so if youre unsure about a piece, be sure to try on before you buy in their fitting room. As far as service goes, the cashiers are quick but there weren't any reps on the floor. I like coming here to have time to myself. If you are a fan of retail therapy, this is a practical way to treat yourself on a dime.

I was absolutely devastated when they closed up their old location a couple of years ago. There really is no replacement for HW, as well as its mission to serve the AIDS/HIV population. Also, with the change in the retail corridors in BK heights as well as Dobro (no more 99 cent stores!!), it really was a trememendous loss. So, I am beyond thrilled that Housing Works is back on Montague Street (and in a location much closer to my apartment, to my financial detriment!) The newer storefront feels a tad smaller than the old space, but with a similar layout. Clothing and accessories in front, housewares towards the back, with the donations area at the back wall. The selection seemed more thoughtfully curated, if a little thin. Housewares and bric a brac organized and styled aesthetically by color. Clothing styles were mixed and a little on the higher end, but this reflected some items that were newer or with tags. For ladies, there were some gems by Derek Lam, Coach, Rag and Bone, DVF and Theory. Some brand new coach coats with tags for $150. I didn't get anything but I'll definitely check back in periodically.

I was looking for a cowboy hat for a costume and while I didn't find one that fit I did find quite a number of useful very well priced items.
