We went specifically to get a plum tree. We got a lovely shaped specimen and were given good advice about planting and pruning. The chap we were speaking to also recommended a couple of jasmines and we bought a few annuals too. He kindly tied up the tree and helped us into the car with it. The creepers and tree have really taken hold in our garden, thanks to the good advice, and are growing nicely this year. We're hoping to make another trip out to Thompsons later this summer.

The shop area houses a large range of garden furniture, water features, books and gifts as well as a large range of house plants including orchids and some exotic species. There are also many types of garden compost and accessories including paving and stoneware for garden landscaping. Overall a very pleasant place to browse for your gardening needs.

One of the nice things about this garden centre is that in their shrub area they always have a nice stock of Acers in (the trees, not the computers), and they're very reasonably priced.

The owner seems to know her regulars well which made for a wholesome shopping experience. The shop is a bit of a tight squeeze though and customers often find themselves in the way of each other in the aisles. Not one for shopping with the kids. Parking is available directly outside the shop in the pay and display but you might struggle to find a spot as it is quite small and with a mini-supermarket next door, is quite a popular parking location.

I don't give it 5 stars because of three things: we were disappointed we couldn't get into the ice rink due to the amount of people, they don't have a proper bicycle parking and, even though at first I was excited about seeing the reindeer, I think animals shouldn't be kept locked in such tiny spaces. Reindeer are herd animals that migrate through extensive areas. It was a bit sad to see them. Anyway, the rest of the place is very cool. We bought some Christmas decorations and some things for the plants, and had delicious pies. Really nice place.

They seem to favour plants grown locally (Surrey mostly) and have some really unusual herbs such as tangerine sage and black mint. They also serve tea, coffee and locally made cakes, which are all scrummy! On a lovely day, it is heavenly to sit outside in amongst all the greenery enjoying a cuppa and a slice of home made cake. They also offer free local delivery (same day) which was brilliant for us as we bought loads of compost and had walked from home, so didn't fancy walking back with it!

Prices are pretty reasonable and the owner is very amicable, and will try hard to get you what you're looking for. The shop is arresting from the outside and really stands out from the road's otherwise humdrum shopfronts. Some lovely bookshelves in here that would cost you a fortune elsewhere.
