Five Stars Are Not Enough!…read more Dan and his team are beyond great. Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference. I used American Air after they were referred to me be an HVAC guy who couldn't get to my job in a reasonable amount of time. I was a little suspicious that American Air was available when others weren't, but it turns out that Dan, after years of working for someone else in town, had just gone out on his own and started his own business. Last summer I bought 2 houses and tore them down to the studs and rebuilt them at the same time. Between the 2 houses I had at least 11 contractors and subs on the job. Dan and his guys were like a breath of fresh air. He came when he said he would, he rolled with the changing timeline of the project, he took over when the guy a the gas company was confusing me about what he thought I needed, he had everything he needed when he arrived, and he finished on time and on budget. But that's the basic stuff. Frankly, that's what I expect from any contractor. Where American Air really shines is the other stuff. When I told Dan what I wanted he RESPECTFULLY talked to me about my choice and explained the limitations of the system. I can't tell you how tired you become of men telling you what you want instead of listening to you! His guys were great. They were friendly, professional, and they cleaned up after themselves and took great care not to damage the new wood floors. Most importantly Dan called me 6 months after the install to see how the unit preformed. I bought a unit that doesn't preform well below 5 degrees, and this winter we spent considerable time in that range. When I told him that it had preformed exactly as expected. I had just gone out and bought a space heater to supplement. He told me he had been worried about me and had already contacted the manufacturer and talked them into upgrading the mother board in the unit for free. UNBELIEVABLE !!!! I recently referred American Air to some friends. They had already heard of him but were hesitant because he hadn't been in business for as long as some of the other companies. If you have any hesitation, don't. This is a solid business that's not going anywhere. And you couldn't ask for a nicer or more professional group of guys.

During that visit, the technician told me my furnace blower and vents needed to be cleaned. I took him at his word, scheduled the work, and also signed up for their maintenance plan. Later that same week, multiple technicians came out to complete the vent cleaning and blower cleaning. They spent a long time at my house and appeared to do thorough work. I personally watched one technician remove my blower, take it out to my driveway, and hose it down. At the time, I believed the work had been done properly. About a month later, I had my first scheduled maintenance appointment under the maintenance plan. After inspecting my furnace, the technician approached me and recommended that I have my blower and vents cleaned. I was pretty surprised and asked him if he genuinely thought they needed it. He showed me photos of a dirty vent and stated my blower was dirty. I explained that I had just paid his company over $2,000 less than a month earlier to perform that exact service. The technician seemed caught off guard and went upstairs to inspect things further. When he came back down, he told me he could see brush marks in the vents, but that the cleaning "wasn't done to his standard." At that point, I started trying to contact someone at the company about my concerns. It took numerous calls and text messages before I finally got a response. Eventually Jesse called me back and told me he had the technician in the room with him on speakerphone. He explained that the technician believed the prior work simply hadn't been done to his standards and they wanted to offer me a "redo." Honestly, I found that conversation uncomfortable and unprofessional. I didn't really want to discuss concerns about a technician while that same technician was sitting there listening on speakerphone. I agreed to the redo at the time because the situation felt awkward. A few days later, I called back and specifically asked to speak with a different manager because I wanted to discuss the situation privately. That was over a week ago, and I still have not received a callback. At this point, my concern is that technicians may be pressured to upsell services, even when they may not actually be necessary. I literally watched the first technician clean the blower in my driveway. I have a hard time understanding how it supposedly needed another cleaning less than a month later. When I questioned it, it felt like the company scrambled to come up with an explanation rather than simply acknowledging the issue. Between the conflicting information, the lack of communication, and the lack of follow up, I'm left questioning whether I even needed the original service in the first place. I spent over $2,000 with this company and walked away feeling more uncertain than confident. Based on my experience, I would recommend looking at other HVAC companies before using Total Comfort Solutions.

As of today, Grassi has lost me as a loyal customer. Over the past 6 months we've had consistent issues with a couple systems (5+ call outs to 2 properties). To their credit, since the units are under warranty they say they will warranty the parts. Even still we are at $1,700+ costs thus far. Today, our tenant was cold and turned on the heater. It is 60 degrees outside. Grassi is charging for another callout as the units that they worked on within the month threw another code. Their technician, Cody, called us and told us that this is an operator error, blaming our tenant for their machine malfunction, as these are "not designed to heat when the temperature outside is above 60". These are the only heat source for the house as recommended and installed by Grassi. What is our tenant supposed to do? I don't believe this is an engineering issue as I have more faith in Carrier (the brand installed) or my tenant, who deserves to be comfortable. My take is that this was either poorly installed or poorly recommended. When asking more questions Cody, the technician, told us that we knew nothing about refrigeration and hung up on us.

Chris and Jimmy were out for the annual tuneup of her furnace. And while mom appreciates that "They aren't hard to look at!" and I am also reminded why we enjoy working with them so much; affordable, fast, friendly, reliable and safe. Safe- During this pandemic, we have to take all of the necessary precautions for my elderly mother. Chris and Jimmy put on their masks before coming to the door, and kept them on the entire time that we met with them. Reliable- The techs always show up in the window of time we schedule, and they give us sound advice and recommendations to keep my mother's system running efficiently. Friendly- Everyone, from Ashley and the other staff in the office to the techs who show up, are always extremely friendly and courteous, so we feel that we can never ask too many questions. Fast- I called ahead to schedule today's tune up from my home in Portland last week, thinking they would be scheduling days or weeks out. But, I was informed that they could actually do it that day! The company I use in Portland was scheduling 6 weeks out. Affordable- The cost of today's tuneup was less than half what I pay in Portland, and extremely reasonable. Because I live 4 hours away, it is comforting to know that the team of Grassi Refridgeration is always available to help my elderly mother when issues arise. She called them out in June when her air conditioner wasn't working and the tech discovered the only issue was that she had turned off the air conditioner at the fuse box by mistake. He kindly informed her of the issue but also checked the rest of the unit out to be safe. What more could we ask for?
