This was one the best meals of my life, if not the very best one. My cousin and her husband are…read moreregulars at Como and knowing how much I love good food, they brought me here during my trip to Australia. They had warned me about the location of the restaurant. The restaurant is located outside of Sydney, in the Blue Mountains region, at what seems to be a small strip mall. It is completely understated with almost a hole-in-the-wall feel from outside. Just parking outside, you wouldn't expect anything this amazing to be waiting for you. Once you walk in, things start looking more like fine dining with a simple elegance but still very understated. The place has a very small dining room and a small number of people working there. A husband-and-wife team lead service at Como. The husband is the chef- friendly, down to earth and amazingly talented. The wife is in charge of the front of the house, provides great customer service and she does excellent wine pairings. The dining style is either a 5- or 8-course meal for a price much lower than what you would pay in the city for the same quality. We ended up getting the 5-course meal for $90 (AUD) per person but if we had a bit more time in our hands, we could have definitely eaten the 8-course meal. They also seemed very welcoming to different dietary restrictions and were able to provide my cousin an option for a few things she can't normally eat. The menu items change frequently based on seasonal availability. The food has a modern touch with elements from various different cuisines. Although the details of each dish aren't fresh in my mind , the flavors definitely are engraved somewhere in there. We started with a small amouse-bouche of a small vietnamese salad with ginger mousse at the bottom. Our second course was a side of tooth fish what seemed like a really flavorful meatball. Our main course was off-the-chart delicious beef cheeks served with roasted vegetables and creamy gnocchi. Main course was followed by a chocolate/passion fruit combination of a dessert that also acted like a palate cleanser. And then we had our main dessert, the final course of our meal. It was beautifully plated with multiple layers of flavors. There was ice cream, a little cake layer topped with a mousse. The bottom of the plate was coated with little dots of berry syrup! All very delicious and satisfying. Overall, this place can be characterized as a "hidden gem" and is definitely worth the drive out of the city. Well-thought flavors are served in a simple elegant atmosphere by people who love what they do! AMAZING!

It is true fine dining. We went with a very "difficult" party. 1 of our party pregnant, 1 vegetarian and 1 with food allergies. We were prepared to order off the al la carte menu to make things easy, but the manager insisted (with no hint of hesitation) that customising the degustation menu wouldn't be a problem. So hey, we though we'd give them a challenge. The whole experience was flawless. The dishes were fantastic and the vegetarian options were created with as much care as the regular dishes. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves. We'll be going back!

The restaurant has a lovely ambiance, and a more than adequate wine list. There is even a separate menu with a selection of boutique beers. The tables are well set with crisp linen, white crockery and shiny silverware. Servings appear to be all adequate or generous in their sizes. Regrettably tonight's dinner was just not up to scratch. We started with sparkling water with a slice of lemon, followed by a lovely Shiraz for me as accompaniment for my veal Oscar. My wife had a pleasant Pinot Grigio as accompaniment to her Baked Barramundi. All good so far. I ordered the Salt n Pepper Calamari for entree. Regrettably a poor choice. It was served as little squares of calamari with a spinach salad. The salad was nicely dressed and the calamari tasted pleasant enough, but it appeared to have been commercially prepared, was of disappointing texture, and just would have been so much nicer if it appeared to fresh calamari prepared wholly in the restaurant kitchen. On the other hand, my Veal Oscar was a very adequate dish, accompanied by nicely roasted half potatoes, beans, etc. The veal was tender and tasty and served with a lovely cream sauce. For desert, I ordered a Zabaglione, described in the menu as a "chilled, rich dark Belgium Chocolate mousse". That is exactly what it was, so I am at a loss to understand why it is called a "Zabaglione". In summary, a really very pleasant restaurant, with lovely staff and generally quite good food, only let down by a few small and unusual details. As a family restaurant in pleasant surroundings, I believe this restaurant deserves to be tried as you wend your way up to the mountains, but don't expect haute cuisine.

Excellent soups, pastas cooked al dente, good selection of wines(none too pricey) and excellent desserts! A must if you are in the Blue Mountains area.
