I ordered compost and topsoil in bulk from Blatt's because I wanted to build raised beds for a garden. They were very helpful on the phone, and helped me out figuring out how much I needed. Everyone I talked to was very nice, as was the guy who actually delivered the dirt. I got 3 scoops of "topsoil" and 2 of "compost".
BUT, what they sold as "topsoil" was nothing like any sort of topsoil I've ever bought in my life. This "topsoil" was fill dirt. It was mostly red clay, had lots of pieces of gravel in it, and barely any organics. I put it in my raised beds (mixed with the compost I also bought) and the amount of red clay caused everything to stick together and crack. My garden was horrible this year. Basically, the entire process of building raised beds was a waste because of the terrible quality of the soil.
I called to complain and they told me, "Ma'am, this is what we consider "topsoil" around here." and basically told me it was my problem. I'll never do business with them again, and would advise anyone thinking about ordering from them to do your homework very carefully, as what they told me on the phone (that the topsoil was similar to topsoil you'd buy in bags from Southern States or Lowes) was completely a lie. read more
