While we were in Blarney, Cork, Ireland, we visited the largest Irish shop in the world!! Blarney Woollen Mills Baby!! This shop has been around since about 1823 (I believe). Pretty impressive! We only had about 30 minutes to browse Blarney Woollen Mills. In that time, Wifey found a very cool jacket to purchase at an affordable price point. In that time, she also forgot her sunglasses at the shop. We already faraway from the shop when she realized that she misplaced it. She immediately called the shop, but by that time the sunglasses were nowhere to be found. The employee who answered the phone was not very helpful or sympathetic though. Very sad and disappointing customer service!!! Despite the loss of my wife's beloved sunglasses, it was still an okay experience overall. This shop carrys all kinds of clothes, crafts, food, plus so much more. Blarney Woollen Mills is known as having the great Irish Shopping Experience after all. Absolutely check this place out after you kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle of course. Just don't forget any of your possessions while you are here because chances are great that they will be unable to help you. read more

I remember visiting the Blarney Woolen Mills after the Blarney Castle when I visited Ireland back in 2013. I remember it having all the souvenirs you could want, including wool - at reasonable prices. We visited again after Blarney Castle but we had limited time since it closes at 6 PM and we got there at around 5:30. I managed to find a cute little sheep stuffy for my daughter, and an ornament for my sister. I remember buying wool the last time I was here. If I had more time to shop, I probably would have done more damage, so maybe it was a good thing the store was at closing time. read more

This is a must-stop! They have everything! Be prepared to spend some money because if you're like me, you're gonna want it all! I was glad to see that they had wool sweaters and cardigans in multiple sizes (xs-2XL) unlike other places I had looked. The store is very large with lots of options. The upstairs is mainly kitchen stuff where downstairs is clothing, jewelry, and souvenirs. They have a shipping option( free over $100 I think). This review is long overdue but I wanted to make sure that I gave this store some recognition. This store is located in a highly trafficked tourist spot, near Blarney Castle. It's a huge spot with dining area, a store filled with woolen goods, and one of the largest souvenir shops I had visited. It serves as a rest area for many that stop by the castle and walk the many steps up to the top to kiss the stone. I thought the sweaters and jackets they had in the store were of a high quality and they had unique designs I had not seen elsewhere on my tour of Ireland. I also saw many items that are available in every shop in Dublin. The prices were pretty fair for the quality and I ended up purchasing a couple of sweaters. They had a good range of sizes available for each item. Purchases are eligible for a VAT refund if you meet the requirements. The staff was quite helpful and were plentiful throughout the large store. It's so easy to get lost in the racks of clothing and lose track of time but the store has a good layout with plenty of space to move around. Be prepared to see a lot of tourists here but know that they do carry some unique items. read more

Blarney Woolen Mills is a large store that sells not only woolen goods, but has a cafeteria for those who have gone through the castle and the grounds and need to get a bite to eat. It is a very busy place with a multitude of options for lunch. Time permitting you can opt for hot meals that take a bit to get or opt for sandwiches or hot entree's. Unfortunately we had to get something premade because time was getting short. While I did not get anything of interest, I'm sure there are more options that I did not get to try. Maybe next time I'm in Ireland I'll try something else and give a different star rating. read more

Tour buses are everywhere as tourists have a go at this gigantic outlet store for houseware, blankets, foods and candies, jewelry, all sorts of adult and children's clothing (lots of sweaters and hats), plus souvenirs, and gifts. You can get something for everyone on your list right here. We picked up two very nice woolen blankets for under €90 apiece. They also have a cafeteria with two very busy lines. I ordered a slice of pizza that turned out to be gigantic and a side broccoli salad. I was surprised at the value, it wasn't too bad at all, and as far as the quality goes, I sure have had worse pizza! One bonus we enjoyed was watching two or three crows swooping down to steal leftover food at the outdoor dining tables. That was very entertaining. read more

Came here on our trip to Ireland. Stayed in the hotel, went to the restaurant for breakfast, and the store for some shopping. All of it was fantastic! The hotel was clean and easy to get into. The restaurant had delicious food that really filled us up and had tons of options, and the store was huge! We got everything we wanted and more, and the proximity to the castle was great! We were hoping it would be a good place to see/buy Irish sweaters but it wasn't. It was just a big tourist trap. Think of all the tourist stores you see in the city. This place has a section/store for each of the main items you'd see in the tourist shops: chocolate/sweets, jewelry, sweaters, T-shirt's, etc. This is also a stop where a lot of your buses let off loads of tourists. If you want to buy Irish items made in Ireland, try the small shops in the villages. The proprietors know the local artists and the quality is much better. While the castle and grounds were very awesome and totally worth the visit. But this place is a major disappointment. No need to go here. read more

I guess it was my own fault (for not reading the itinerary better) but I arrived here expecting the Blarney Woolen Mills to be an actual working woolen mill. My wife (who read the tour literature) knew it was only a very large outlet store for the Blarney Woolen Mills. And - as someone noted in a prior review - this is a magnet for those bus tours across Ireland. I guess the tour operators see it as a "must see" destination but it was just another shopping opportunity in my mind. The store is big and well-stocked with all types of Irish woolens. It is not what most Americans would consider an "outlet" store (i.e. discounted merchandise, seconds, etc.) but is truly just a store selling high-quality Irish woolens. Some of the folks on our tour were looking forward to stopping here and had lists of what they were looking to buy; others didn't even go in the store but explored Blarney. As for my wife and I -- she did a quick walk-thru and didn't buy anything while I went looking for lunch. This is a shopper's delight / if you're not in the market for Irish woolens, keep walking and go explore Blarney. read more

The atmosphere here is very relaxing, you can even shop here to it has a kitchen shop & all sorts of food anything from: salads, handcrafted sandwiches, pizza, soup, veryyyyy yummy dessert sweets. Coffees, tea's, hot cocoa, drinks, and more with plenty of seating. They even have a ice parlor. It's also next the blarney castle which you should definitely go see it's beautiful. read more

Buyer Beware! I bought 3 sweaters at the Blarney Woollen Mills and was persuaded by the sales person to have them shipped to the US "free". Sounds great! No lugging bulky sweaters around the rest of the trip. I bought the sweaters for my adult son, his girlfriend and my daughter. Large, medium, small. The one I bought for my daughter had some purple in it, her favorite color. And of course I checked the labels to make sure they were made in Ireland ! When the package arrrived, it contained 3 large oatmeal colored sweaters, 2 of them were not made in Ireland. I'll add pics later. I believe this was done deliberately to offload sweaters not sellling. And they count on the fact that it will be too much hassle to return them. Two thumbs way down! This store is the largest Irish shop in the WORLD (at least thats what the sign says). But to be honest, the store was pretty large and had a lot of stuff from food to sweaters to Waterford crystals. There are things here for kids, men and women. There is a first floor and a second floor. I believe a lot of the men's wear was on the second floor and kids and women's on the first floor. Our tour group stopped off here for some shopping and some lunch (located next door). A great place to spend the day for shopping. You can spend hours and hours here! Products/Cost: (3.75/5) I visited this store about 2 weeks ago while touring Ireland. I didn't end up buying anything, but that was because my carry-on size luggage was already jammed to the brim. If you are looking to buy wool products, this is one of the best places to go. They have an extensive selection of wool items for women, men, children, and the home -- all are beautifully made and of high quality. There is also a good sales section upstairs! The prices can be a bit high, but that's more due to the nature of the product, than any deliberate conspiracy to gouge tourists. In addition to the clothing items, Blarney also carries an impressive array of regular touristy products and food items from chocolates to candies. Location: (4/5) The village of Blarney isn't large, so the shop is located near almost all the other major tourist shops and places to eat. It's also a easy 5 minute walk from the Blarney Castle, a major tourist attraction. Overall: (3.75/5) For tourists, this is a worthwhile stop, especially if you are looking to buy some souvenirs for family and friends back home. While on a 10-day bus tour of Ireland this was one of our many stops. We hit up the Blarney Castle and then the Blarney Woolen Mills. I was right at about 7-months pregnant with my first child and going on a windy bus tour was not the greatest idea in the world. I remember being so disgustingly car sick (or would it be bus sick?) that I honestly contemplated staying at the Woolen Mills, having my baby there and naming my son Blarney. Other than my memory of wanting to barf I thought the Blarney Woolen Mills were great! I bought lots of souvenirs for my family and friends, with my favorite being a beautiful purple woven blanket. They've got lots of kitchy gifts from t-shirts to blankets to cheesy nick knacks but the woven blankets were definitely the stand out items that you should purchase while you're there. They are a woolen mill after all! I thought that prices were fairly reasonable as well. One more memory I had of Blarney was that all I wanted was to have some American mustard and it's really difficult to find it in Ireland. All anyone serves is Coleman's. Oh hell no! Packets and packets of Coleman's everywhere I went and it drove me crazy. I bought a sandwich at the concession stand in hopes of being able to slather it with American mustard and I got screwed again by packets of Coleman's. Dammit! Pregnant, car sickness and no mustard! This place is amazing. They have the quality souvenirs like wool sweaters and Waterford crystal instead of just the kitshy crap you can find in a Carroll's. I got a great scarf for €10, some delicious Irish coffee chocolates for €4 and some unique gifts for my parents that I haven't seen anywhere else on this island thus far! If you are looking for a bargain on clothing head to the first floor, (this place is massive, it has three floors!) My friend got a lovely lilac shrug sweater for €10!!!! read more

Not that there's anything wrong with that stuff, but if you want to see what Irish craftware, fashion and souvenirs are really at, Blarney Woolen Mills is the place to go. Meadows & Byrne, Newbridge and Waterford Crystal all have large concessions here, and there's an Insomnia on-site to fuel your shopping spree. There's parking on-site, although quite a bit of that is devoted to coaches of shoppers. Best bet is to get there early and not rush yourself. read more

This is as authentic a gift shop as you will ever find anywhere. When I was here, they were having some sort of semi-annual sale and it was packed with locals and tourists alike. Blarney Woolen Mills has everything from Irish lace, Butler's chocolate, wool scarfs, rugby shirts, Guinness merch, and everything in between. It is truly the only stop one needs to make while looking for gifts in Ireland. Unfortunately I did more gift shopping for myself than anyone else, but what can I say, it was the semi-annual sale! I was able to buy a baby gift for friends, a big package of Aran yarn for crocheting back home, and a scarf for myself. Besides unbelievably friendly and helpful staff, they also take American currency which was a nice surprise. If you're a tourist and you're looking for a souvenir or a gift for someone back home but you don't want to get them a "my friend went to Ireland" t-shirt, this is the place to be. Genuine Irish crafts, classy gifts, beautiful wools and furniture and jewellery. There is everything to be found in this place and you're guaranteed to find a great gift for yourself or another. They also have a selection of the more tacky souvenirs, if you want something fun to bring home. There's also a Meadows and Byrne on the top floor, which is just a gorgeous homewares shop. I ordered the tea again because Anglos (their version) believe Americans drink STRONG, BITTER COFFEE, something on the order of Expresso, YUCK. Asked for cream in my tea, & , after a disapproving frown from the counter server, & she statement that no one puts cream in their tea, I realized she was talking about clotted cream, not liquid cream. I love hot tea with brown sugar & cream, but would rather drink it with sugar only, than settle for 2% milk. This "white water", flavorless, unsatisfying stuff is best left to dieters who actually think they're loosing weight substituting it. read more

Huge gift shop with everything Irish - the woolen products were my particular favorite, but they have pretty much everything you can think of. The prices were pretty decent & are definitely cheaper than what you'll find in the city areas (Dublin). While we were there, they had a deal: spend 250 euro & get free shipping home (US). This is very easy to do if you're getting wool products & gifts. As with the trend everywhere else we've been, the people are incredibly helpful and courteous. As one of the oldest mills and longest lasting ones in Ireland they turn this HUGE mill into a beautiful store filled with all types of wool, jewelry, gifts, gadgets, and along side attached is a restaurant and cafeteria/restaurant/deli and is delightful to stop at before or after visiting the Blarney Castle. I've been to the store in Blarney on two separate occasions. and have dealt with them on line. Both stores and web sites have things that I couldn't find anywhere else (eg: a fisherman knit shawl with a hood for cool nights that I got on my last visit.) The prices are comparable to other stores outside of Dublin. My last purchase on line had free shipping and handling. I tried to buy a sweater from their website and was notified three days later they did not have the product, it had been discontinued and would issue a refund on my next statement. Two things: they advertised a discontinued product they had no stock for and they charged my card before even checking to see if they had the stock. At Christmas time, this is not customer service and if they were in the States, I would report them to the Better Business Bureau. read more
