The bathrooms are clean and showers are large and warm. Everywhere you look, is majestic trees, ferns and moss. Coming here, I am able to gather my thoughts and reflect on the good things. The state park never gets old. It can accommodate a lot of people and I rarely feel claustrophobic, even at the height of the summer season. Combing the beaches, for rocks, as you can watch the beautiful sunset. Take a stroll in the giant Douglas Firs or watch the Blue Heron and Bald Eagles hunt for food or soar about the sky. Bring your kayak, if you have one and watch the sunset in the water. I cannot say enough great things about Birch Bay State Park. If you have yet to visit the park, I highly recommend putting this place on your bucket list. You don't want to miss this amazing place.

Arriving at Heritage Park in Stanwood around 9:29 a.m. this morning, Wednesday 24 May 2023, one…read morevehicle was pulling out of the parking lot and other than that my silver 2010 Toyota Corolla that I named Lepton was the only vehicle in the parking lot. City workers were in their office (at work on the road) and the road was closed past the park. Driving all the way up to the road closed sign, I saw the turn-in for the parking lot and was relieved the entrance was not in the section of the road that was closed. The park has a variety of offerings including numerous soccer fields, two large baseball fields, pickleball courts abutting a fenced-in grassy sitting area equipped with benches, a skate park, a playground, a restroom building by a flagpole, porta-pottis scattered throughout the park, and two horseshoe pits. I had not thrown a horseshoe in 15 to 20 years (I am approximately 30 years old as of writing this on 24 May 2023). So, knowing I was bigger and stronger than the last time I threw one, I picked up a horseshoe and threw it better than I ever did when I was growing up. Fun to see the decade-plus rest served my horseshoe-throwing skills well. A swallow soared past me and Lepton in the parking lot and European starlings were hard at work foraging in the grass of one of the baseball fields. A worker was mowing the grass past one of the baseball fields. It was an overall serene exploring experience.

This is a man made park that was built for residence of New West. I don't come to New West often…read morebut am surprised that this park existed and I don't know about it. Its a mirror of the downtown coal harbour seawalk. It has a pretty nice stretch from one end to the other. So what's interesting here: -There are hammocks set up for people to relax -There are sun loungers that flip from one end to the other depending where you want to face -Volleyball courts for small gatherings -A nice green area for people who just want to sit in the sun -A kids play area -A nice path for walkers like me. This is a very well laid and thought through park. Lots of design ideas has been put into it. I am impressed.

There are many sun loungers which can be flipped to face the other direction. There are a few swings for children and toddlers. It incorporated a bit of history in the entire park. There are basketball court, volleyball court and an urban beach. There is also a patch of greenery where yoga classes are conducted, and all are welcome. The concession stand is open during summer, great for a quick snack or an ice cream cone. Benches are everywhere for you to relax and enjoy the view of the Fraser River. It is a nice easy walk. Plus if you are still into Pokemon Go, there are gyms and pokestops around too.
