This is a beautiful park. The changing fall leaves were beautiful. The hiking trails were really nice. My kids also enjoyed riding their bikes. We stayed at the campground and it was clean, and the hosts would pick up the trash at every site every morning. We liked that it had full hookups, we expected it to only have electricity and water. We didn't like that our RV campsite was very small and the position where the fence posts were located as well as the grill, that made it even harder to backup with our RV. We stayed on site 2, number 1 and 2 were the smallest ones we saw on our side. If we had known when we booked we had probable looked somewhere else. The bathrooms and showers were ver clean and nice but the building was cold. read more

We stayed two nights at Blackwater River State Park in Holt, Florida during January ... excellent park that is maintained to perfection! We stayed in site 21 ... which had 20/30/50 amp power, H2O and it's own sewage ... when we first hooked up power, we had an "open ground" indication ... the rangers were quick to change out panels and fixed the problem ... Lots to do here ... canoe rentals just down the road and lots of trails ... Park is really well maintained with clean facilities and immaculate camp sites ... the rangers are super helpful! Amazing place to stay! River water was pretty high due to rain, however, we still had a blast kayaking and tubing as well as swimming and fishing. Very well maintained with daily trash pick up and some recycling. Fire pit and picnic tables make camping easy and enjoyable. Recommend slots 5 or 6 if you want concrete in the Magnolia Loop. We still had a very large parking site at #11 though. Clean restrooms and showering area as well. Highly recommend. Everyone was friendly and there were both families with small children as well as tent campers. Will definitely come back read more

If you want mild entertainment and a scenic afternoon, try renting a canoe or kayak and explore this park. We rented a canoe from Blackwater River Outfitters. If you want to travel the one day trip, they pick up two different times Before noon. There is a shorter excursion with a few more times to choose. Make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes before the pick up time and add in time to pay for rentals. Very friendly company! Call for reservations on holidays and summer months. We purchased the cushion and back support which is a deal for another $15. Total price was around $60. These were great after an hour of sitting in the canoe. We got very lucky as there was only one other couple and we saw them only a few times down the river. The river was very peaceful and refreshing. We were lucky it is late August and so there was not a lot of people or noise on the river. We left at the second pick up time but wished we went earlier as the sun is very strong later in the day. There seemed to be a lot of trees in the water so I was glad we rented a kayak rather than tube. We paddled pretty hard and with taking several breaks to let the dog play, we made it down the river in 3 1/2 hours. The normal time is 4-6 hours depending upon current and crowd. My entertainment card was full in 3 hours. Bring MORE water than you think you will drink, sandwiches or snacks, sunscreen, towels, and a dry bag to put cell phone or keys. BRING $4 cash for parking. They give tickets. We saw a few cars ticketed at the end of the day. Ask what marker is the half way point so you know how much time you'll need to finish before the last pick up if you are floating. No glass is permitted so bring cans or plastic bottles. Our dogs nose was sunburned. Make sure to bring poop bags for your dog as there are none. The current was enough to keep us moving. It's safe enough for children. We were told it can be very busy on holidays so plan ahead. There was two of us and our Aussie Sheppard that fit in the canoe. We would do it again. read more

We had a beautiful, peaceful stay at this park. We walked on the white sand beyond the black water. We stayed several days, enjoyed the serenity of the park. They are dog friendly, as long as the dog is leashed and you clean up after them. There is not a great deal of space for the RV, but it is adequate. We enjoyed our stay here. Of course I love this river and state park since I practically live in it. Water is very refreshing on a hot summer day. If you tube, canoe or kayak there are plenty of places to pull out and eat lunch or chill for a bit. Lots of friendly people along the river too. Always a good time. read more

Best place ive ever been by kayak and ive been down a few other river in New York and coming here is beautiful, had a meal in the Blackwater River and traveled 11 miles but there are shorter treks and longer ones to choose from aswell. I will definitely be going back read more

Bobs canoe in Milton is WAY more professional and they have friendly staff. Definitely sticking with them from now on. Do yourself a favor. The camping area of this park is very well maintained. The restrooms are super clean and the campsites are roomy and level.The trails and beaches are clean and enjoyable. You can go up river and tube or kayak down right to the campsite. It is one of our favorite local spots to get away for the weekend. read more

There are no free places to park and hike a trail inside of the park proper, so make sure that you bring at least $4 in cash. My friend and I were digging under the seats to find change to pay the fee. If you forget, you can backtrack to the Harold Store and hit the ATM. Ample amount of parking inside the park, but it's a hike to anything that you'd want to see. Wear comfortable footwear, bring bug spray and sunscreen in the summer, because clouds of biting flies and skeeters will devour you. Welcome to the panhandle of Florida! Early in the summer of '12, we hiked the northern section of the Juniper Creek trail (and got attacked by yellowjackets). That section gets pretty vague, at times, so you really have to look for the orange trailblazing marks on the trees. The good part about the upper part is the Red Rock bluffs, which are really tall, for Florida. Those overlook the creek, which is hella cold all summer. Farther south, there is a blue-marked trail that dumps you onto a white sandbar, where you can swim in that frigid water. We did that, because it was about 95 degrees the day that we went and we were worn out. Continuing south, you arrive at a Boy Scout shelter at the top of a hill. There is a mosquito-infested shelter, good for protection from rain, and a fire pit. It's probably against the law and otherwise inadvisable to start a fire, though. We turned around at the shelter and retreated. In the summer, the trail has spider webs (populated with spiders, of course) stretched across it every 15 feet, so take a staff or stick or flyswatter to forge ahead. Yesterday (January 24), we hiked the southern section. This stretch has puncheons (timbers to walk on to get over streams and bogs) in several parts. We hiked all the way to Alligator Creek, which is ~3.6 miles from the trailhead, took a rest, then turned around and came back. We're talking about using both vehicles (one at each end) to hike the entire 8.8 miles trail soon. Juniper Creek trail is hilly, has obstructions to navigate over and under, and is devoid of anything interesting to look at, other than the bluffs and sandbars on the northern stretch. Seriously, most of the time, you are looking at flora growing thickly all around the trail and it's akin (I imagine) to hacking your way through the Amazonian rain forest...minus the hacking and venomous creatures. There are snakes in Blackwater, but I've never seen one. Matter of fact, if you see birds, you're on a reg'lar Ranger Ricks's nature tour, because I think that I've seen two the entire 6-7 hours that I've spent on that trail. Not that I need or desire to be menaced by feral hogs or chupacabras, but some indication of wildlife would be cool. Good times. Take plenty of water on the southern section, because, while there are slowly-moving trickles of creeks, I wouldn't even trust that black and brackish water after a run through a modern water purifier. The northern section is close to the bigger creek and my friend drinks from it without trepidation, although the risk of giardia and who knows what else prevents me from being so cavalier. Worthy of a look, if you like outdoorsy-type things and don't mind sweating. I need the exercise, so we'll be back soon. I'll be searching for some trails other places where there is something to actually look at, because Juniper Creek trail is almost like walking in a tunnel. read more

One-of-a-kind. Sandy bottom river. I believe the last one in United States. Every turn in the bend is a beach. The term lazy river doesn't mean the river is lazy, it means that you are. It means the river is flowing fast enough that you don't even have to paddle your lazy ass. You can actually float down the river in a tube. You don't even need a canoe. We arrived just after 9 pm on a Tuesday night. We forgot to call before 6 like your suppose to, to let them know we would be so late. We called the manager number written on the gate and the woman on the phone was so nice and helpful! She gave us the code and directions to our campsite. We had a wonderful night here. Every time we come, the rangers are very rude and adamant about our dogs not going on beaches. Even when we literally come multiple times a month and never bring our dogs on the beach (where they're not allowed WHICH WE CAN CLEARLY READ!!!!) yet the rangers are VERY rude about letting us know (which we ALREADY KNOW BEFORE WE GO, UM HELLOOOO THE SIGNS ARE ALL OVER). We have even stayed the night here at the campground as well, where the signs are JUST AS CLEAR, AS IT SAYS IN NUMEROUS AREAS THAT DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE BEACH HELLO SUCH WOW. I mean it's seriously just hilarious that AFTER HOURS THE PEOPLE NEXT TO US CAN BE JUST AS LOUD AND RUDE AS CAN BE!!!!! AND THERE ARE NO AFTER HOURS PEOPLE TO ASSIST WITH OUR NEEDS!!!! So really, their rules are stupid and ridiculous if you ask me, since our dogs that are well trained and behaved have to be quiet, yet idiots and unwell, rude-ass people can be complete and foolish dicks LOL(: Fuck this park(: Except for the few nice, kind, and give-an-actual-damn park rangers that work here. (NOT including the heavier gal that literally gave someone a parking ticket on Xmas eve for just 15 mins, which is NOT exaggerating and just being cranky!) The park itself is great, just not Uber pet friendly and not all that accommodating to your needs. read more
