Wayde the service tech came to our home and treated our ant problem. We had another company come 3xs in 6 weeks and the problem never got any better (their company name rhymes with Borkin). Black's was easy to schedule with and work with...and their prices were great. I have since hired Black's to treat my rental and they made suggestions about "other critters I was concerned with." I contacted Black's Pest Services after discovering suspected termite damage to my wooden deck. Bernard the owner came to investigate and he was very knowledge and pleasant. He diagnosed the issue as damp wood termites, and advised replacing the damaged and damp wood as a treatment plan and modifying the deck construction to avoid future damp wood. With no damp wood to eat this type of termite will not be an issue and was not a danger of spreading to my home he explained. Bernard provided a handyman recommendation who he has known to do good work in the past. Bernard also inspected my crawl space just to be sure there were no subterranean termites which could be damaging my home. He found no evidence of subterranean termites to my relief. This was my first time using Black's Pest Services but I rate both Bernard and his company highly. I would certainly recommend anyone requiring pest services to try this company. read more

Black's Pest Services came out when I first purchased my house for a rodent in the attic issue. They sealed the entry and baited whatever was in there. They also explained everything they were doing, which let me stay on top of it- they weren't pushy with anything but were super helpful. Fast forward and they came back out for a mouse issue. I really wanted to like Black's Pest Services and support a local family business but after a multiple emails with other customers full names, addresses and last 4 of their cards on file and a very alarming experience with their employee I felt compelled to write a review here to share. We purchased a new home that had quite a spider problem and were in the market for pest control as the basic home defense spray wasn't doing the trick. I didn't see much improvement after their first visit and spray outside so after about a month I reached back out and spoke with the receptionist regarding my concerns and she was very kind and got someone right back out within a few days! The employee showed up to my house and started off our interaction stating there were no notes and wanted to know what he was here for. Interestingly enough this was the same employee who was here for the first visit and spray but nevertheless I let him know we hadn't seen improvements from his initial visit. He mentions at that point he's going to spray the inside of my home which was not done to begin with because I have a baby who is about to begin crawling and most pest companies I spoke with advised avoiding indoor sprays if you have young children at all costs. Out of worry and concerns for my baby I was asking him safety questions and was met with a very rude demeanor. He seemed to be very bothered and gave me very short and snarky responses. As I watched him begin spraying around my home he was quite honestly flicking this spray throughout my home and made ZERO attempts to keep any of the pest spray near where the floor meets the wall. There were some places it went almost to the middle of my hallway so I politely asked him if he could please keep the spray closer to where the wall meets the floor reiterating that I have a baby who is about to be on the move and we mop regularly so I want to make sure that treatment is effective, not removed by regular mopping or far away from the walls where she could potentially have direct contact with this. This man looked me dead in the eye and said he didn't have the wrist agility to do what I was asking, said I should only mop with water if I have an issue with it and proceeded to walk around me and do exactly what I was asking him not to do! At this point I again addressed this man stating if he can't do what I am asking and showing blatant disregard for my valid concerns of safety and effectiveness what am I paying for? Without hesitation this employee of Black's Pest Services raised his voice and said I'd be refunded and stormed out of my house slamming my door and aggressively ripping off his shoe covers while his spray can slams on my entry steps. It was not only frightening to be home alone as a woman and experience this unhinged behavior of an adult male but it's absolutely infuriating to be treated with such disregard and disrespect. Our children's safety should be of the utmost concern for this company and their employees. Employees going into people's homes should never behave the way this individual did. I called to report this alarming situation to the company and let them know the entire thing was recorded through my security systems. While the woman on the phone did seem very shocked to hear what had transpired, not once did this employee's manager or the owner reach out to address this. That in itself I believe speaks volumes about this company and their morals. I will never do business with this company again and I will go to great lengths to ensure this message is shared for the safety of other families. This is not okay and I'd hate to see what happened if I wasn't here to monitor all the places he would had sprayed pest chemicals throughout my home. read more

The owner, Bernard, has his higher education in entomology. He REALLY knows his bugs. He will not only take care of your pests but he will educate you too. Last time he came over for ants, he walked my 9 year old daughter all over the yard and showed her all kinds of bugs and what they do and what not to worry about, it was wonderful. Also, Bernard will NOT sell you a service you don't need like the big names (orkin), I once asked him to take care of my spiders and he said "You don't really need a spider service" and told me what to do really quick that would take care of the problem, and it worked. So he basically worked himself out of a job. I have tremendous respect for Bernard and will do business with him without a second thought. read more

I called Black's to inspect insect damage in the wood structure of my house. Two previous pest control pros had come out and had two different ideas about what was going on- neither of which seemed to match up with the evidence. Not only did Black's provide an explanation that made sense (an obscure fungus that I'd never heard of), the inspector performed a thorough exterior walkaround noting areas to keep an eye on, as well as related advice for care of my basement. No treatment recommended and no charge for the visit. Thank you for saving me a useless $2,500 termite treatment! I cannot recommend their expertise or integrity highly enough. read more

I was hosting an open house a few weeks ago and one of the guests discreetly let me know that there was a terrible smell in the crawlspace--yup, something had died in there. I was so embarrassed! Bernard Black is highly educated and has lots of experience dealing with all kinds of pests... he is truly an expert and did an excellent job for me. He was recommended to me by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. I had several other pest companies come through when I had an infestation in my attic, and the other companies that say they deal with bats failed miserably in helping me. My job also included some tear-down and rebuild to my ceiling and Bernard helped me find a very good and fairly priced carpenter to do that part of the job. I don't feel good about writing a bad review for this company, but I really wouldn't recommend them for rodent problems. Maybe they're better with insect problems than they are with rodent problems? We definitely had critters in our attic (the noise waking me up multiple times a night). The young man Black's sent out was very polite and he tried hard, but he clearly wasn't properly trained. He was at our house for well over an hour, and had to repeatedly call his dad with questions (I'm assuming his dad is the owner?). Despite my insistence that the noises were in the attic, he only checked the basement, crawlspace, and outside areas. He didn't find any signs of anything but said his dad could come out the following week to do further investigations. Instead, I called another company (Crittek) who came out the following day and immediately found and fixed the problem (in the attic, of course). A few weeks after my failed visit from Black's, I received a bill in the mail for almost $200, - even though they had assured me the initial visit was free of charge. When I called them to object, they said to disregard the bill, but there was no apology or explanation. Worth noting that my neighbor had an identical experience with them (and was also rescued in the end by Crittek). read more

I am very disappointed. I have used this company more than 10 years ago for a termite/bug issue at another home and hired them again to handle some issues in my new home. We knew there were some major pest entry points into our crawlspace and evidence of mice/raccoons. We hired Blacks to service the home prior to us moving in. In the process, it appears that a damaged foundation vent was missed/not repaired. We now have a mouse infestation in the garage.
