This shop stocks recycled goods. Items made from such things as carrier bags. They make 80% of their stock! What shop can claim this? There is jewelery and nik-naks at good rates. Anyone wanting to buy an unusal gift will find something here that one cannot get elsewhere. The staff are very talkative. German Tv filmed this shop as a guide to the city. They used only 3 venues.

Located on Kensington place, Blackout is a very cute little shop. It is a girly version of Ali Baba's cavern, full of colourful jewellery, clothes and home accessories, I really like this place. You never know what you will find in this shop, but you'll never leave it with empty hands.

Earlier this summer, they sold pots of rosemary, mint and tomatoes. Now, they have clusters of the most divine looking red and green chillis. Even better, they look the perfect size pot for my wee patio garden. If you want to buy me some more as a surprise, Gunns offer home delivery for plants as well as bouquets!

I also often buy irises from them and they always last well. The façade of the shop is incredible, painted dark green with vines and flowers twisting around the building and large yellow lettering announcing the shop's presence- you really can't miss them, the gorgeous and exotic looking flowers spill out on to the pavement and grab your attention as you wander by. Even if you're not planning to buy, it is well worth a look, as many of the plants and flowers on offer are simply breathtaking. The vivid pinks and oranges of some of the petals make me feel as if I've been transported to a Hawaiian rain forest! Gunns will arrange a bouquet to your specifications on the spot and will also take orders over the phone and guarantee same day delivery!

There are nice florists about. But none, I think, as nice as this. She as a knack for making things extra pretty and totally different to any other flower arrangements I've seen. They feel personal, don't ask me how! Just go see for yourself. My favourite little idea and one I can never resist buying, is a gorgeous little jam jar full of the prettiest little flowers for £4.95 roughly. Perfect for little appreciation gifts (I always get my ma one - and myself I can't lie!). I love the fact my boy is so taken with this shop too, he really believes pixies live here. And he likes the 'magic roses'. They also cater for all occasions weddings, funerals - all the usual! If anyone ever pops the question to me (no chance!) I shall be definitely getting my flowers from here.

And its true, there is a strong creative element in flower arranging- it must be really satisfying to create beautiful bouquets all day long. Whilst I've decided it's a little slow paced for me, I ardently admire and support those who make it their vocation. It lifts my spirits when I see a neighbourhood florist, and Ginger Lily is no exception. Outside there are all sorts of reasonably priced little plants- perfect for pressies or pick-me-up treats! Inside, though there's not a huge amount, what is there is really special. Lots of delicate, beautiful single stems...there's no question, this is the place to get a really unique and special bouquet. It may be a little pricier than a bunch of roses from Sainsburys, but who wants to receive flowers with a giant £4.99 emblazoned on the wrapping? Not I. So I urge you, splash out, support your local florist, and get a much more personalised bunch of posies for your mantel!
